How a Joule Thief Works
Step-by-step run through of how a Joule Thief circuit works. Includes how all the parts, the 1.5 volt AA battery, the resistor, the transistor and the ferrite core with its two coils of wire work together to build up energy in a magnetic field which then collapses to produce enough voltage and current to light an LED (Light Emitting Diode.) This includes explanations of the feedback that rapidly opens the transistor between base and emitter to open up the emitter to collector too. And also the feedback that slams the transistor shut again. Mechanical Equivalent Of Heat
Check us out at www.tutorvista.com In the history of science, the mechanical equivalent of heat was a concept that had an important part in the development and acceptance of the conservation of energy and the establishment of the science of thermodynamics in the 19th century. The concept stated that motion and heat are mutually interchangeable and that in every case, a given amount of work would generate the same amount of heat, provided the work done is totally converted to heat energy.

Super Bright Fluorescent Joule Thief
NOTE:: the frequency noise is only picked up by the camera. it doesnt actually squeal like that audibly. alot of people have made some cool portable fluoro lights on youtube but none of them were bright enough for me. "boomerman2004" has made a great instructable on how to do this at s821.photobucket.com i basically did the same thing and took cheap camera circuits and gutted them, but used 3.6 cell phone and cordless phone batteries as inputs. one of them is actually one of the battery cells that make up a laptop battery. each put out around 4v at good current. the problem is leaving the lights on for too long will burn out the transformer. i added a 25 ohm rheo on the green box so i can leave it on for however long i want, just at a low brightness. i wasnt satisfied with the light a single AA puts out, and i like the rechargeability of these battery packs. they charge super fast and will last like almost forever in these circuits. i will definitely be using these next time the power goes out. room to room portability is what makes it ideal. u could also create an inverter for a car battery that will run much bigger fluoros during outages. the pope is a fag and im going to spinkick that fool in his big ass head seriously tho if u like the pope u need to sit on a pinecone and twirl true story

Amazing Joule Thief Lights 200 LEDs On A Single AA Battery!!
Avast!!!! Lighting 200 LEDs on a single AA battery using the modified Fuji Joule Thief circuit. The battery, which is old and nearly dead, will not even light 1 single led by itself. A new AA battery will not light one of these leds alone. More to come when I get the time. More on Overunitydotcom in the Joule Thief topic. Also, see Infinite Power's forum. Thanks. 3D Projection Mapping promoting The Tourist in Dallas
This building projection was to promote the new movie "The Tourist" starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. The Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas hosted a party with this 3D architectural mapping projection art show, it was projected on the Praetorian Building at 1607 Main Street. The size of the projection was 80' x 80'. Produced by TVP Executive producer was Monster Media - monstermedia.net Digital Architectural Projection Mapping by IllumeNight. All content created by Jack Hattingh www.jackhattingh.com and Alan Demafiles. Audio Alan Vilatoro and John Joiner. This was produced by TVP under Jack Hattingh's leadership.

Earth Battery-Joule Thief Runs 48 Inch Tube (40 watts)
This is my earth battery running a 48" (40 watt) florescent tube. It is not at full brightness but it is lit and lit pretty well. It is much brighter than it appears on the camera. i am using my earth battery and running the output into two 2.3, 10 Farad supercaps in parallel with my modified Fuji joule thief circuit. The earth battery does not put out enough mA's to run the Fuji circuit by itself. The supercaps allow it to power the Fuji joule thief. When I get a much larger cap, I believe I can run this as long as I want to. I can charge the supercap with the earth battery by day, and run off it and the earth battery at night. For more information go to Overunitydotcom in the joule thief topic. Thanks.

Joule Thief (Practical Solar Example) 017
A Practical Example of How to Use an Existing Light and Make it Brighter and Lots More Efficient. Just add a Joule Thief Circuit. Also I have a Solar Panel That has an Internal Battery that can Charge on the Window Cill, ready to Recharge it at night. Amp draw is 0.165A @ 3.7v = 0.61W The Solar Cell is Rated at 0.25 @ 8v = 2W If its bright for a quarter of the day it should go forever! Enjoy..

Automatic solar Joule Thief
This is a Joule Thief LED/charger circuit that is being driven automatically by a modified 'solar garden light' circuit. In this video I show energy being gathered by a solar cell and put into a 50 farad 2.3 volt supercapacitor. When the light is removed from the solar cell the Joule Thief circuit automatically turns on a white LED and the red charge indicator LED turns off. While the white light is on, energy recovery is shown happening as energy flows into a second but smaller capacitor raising it to a higher voltage than the first. Many thanks to all the people who contributed ideas to this project.
