PRABHA THAMBI'S UTOPIAN KILINOCHCHI EELAM CAPITAL FALLS: "MOTHER OF ALL BATTLES" IS OVER
KILINOCHCHI: MEGALOMANIAC LTTE Prabhakaran's utopian Eelam capital, KILINOCHCHI, for which, he, for over three decades, mercilessly butchered thousands of monks, clergy, breast-feeding infants, intellectuals, statesmen, including a Sri Lankan President and an Indian Premier, military chieftains, Sinhalese, Muslim & Tamil youths, innocent men and women, was triumphantly overrun and finally rescued from the grip of ruthless terrorism, by able, committed and valiant sons of the Sri Lanka Army by Friday (2nd January 2009), adding a new golden leaf to the contemporary history book of the Mother, Sri Lanka, the Army Headquarters declared a few minutes ago. Thousands of troops who encircled KILINOCHCHI township which is of great importance, since it has been the de-facto administrative capital of the Eelam consisted of valiant sons and daughters of 57 Division and Task Force I (58 Division) who were commanded by Major General Jagath Dias and Brigadier Shavindra Silva. The KILINOCHCHI fall comes precisely after ten years when it last fell to the enemy in September 1998. All troops launching their simultaneous attacks from three different directions in PARANTHAN, IRANAMADU and ADAMPAN areas rolled on to the township areas as the day broke on Friday (2). They first got hold of the famous KILINOCHCHI railway station. Many Tiger terrorists, perhaps aware of what was on the way, appeared to have fled the area in groups as troops were inching forward towards the goal at the crack of ...

Nanning capital of Guangxi in southern China
Nanning www.shanagrant.com Nanning is the capital of Guangxi autonomous region in southern China. It is known as the "Green City" because of its abundance of lush tropical foliage. A county seat called Jinxing was first established at the site in AD 318. This became the administrative seat of a commandery. Nanning was once the territory of the Baiyue people and became the capital of Jinxing Prefecture separated from Yulin Prefecture of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. In 589 the Jinxing commandery was dissolved, and the county was renamed Xuanhua. Under the Tang dynasty (618--907) the prefecture of Yong was established there; it was garrisoned to control the non-Chinese districts in Guangxi and on the Yunnan--Guizhou provincial border. In the mid-9th century the Tang and the Yunnan state of Nanzhao fought over it, and after 861 it was briefly occupied by Nanzhao. It remained a frontier prefecture throughout the Song dynasty (960--1279), being the scene of a rebellion led by Nong Zhigao in 1052 and thereafter a garrison town.

Brasilia, the capital of Brazil
Brasilia was built to be Brazil's new capital city. The idea was to transfer the federal capital of Brazil from the coast to midwestern / interior of the country. Brazil had had two capital cities before that: Rio de Janeiro and Salvador da Bahia. By transferring the capital city to the interior, the government intended to help to populate that area of the county. People from all over the country were hired to build the city, but especially those from the Northeast region of Brazil. Brasilia is known, internationally, for having applied the principles established in the Athens Charter of 1933. President Juscelino Kubitschek ordered the construction of Brasília, fulfilling an article of the country's constitution stating that the capital should be moved from Rio de Janeiro to a place close to the center of the country. Lúcio Costa won a contest and was the main urban planner. Oscar Niemeyer, a close friend of Lúcio, was the chief architect of most public buildings and Roberto Burle Marx was the landscape designer. Brasília was built in 41 months, from 1956 to April 21, 1960 when it was officially inaugurated. From 1763 to 1960, Rio de Janeiro was the capital of Brazil. At this time, resources tended to be centred in Brazil's southeast region near Rio de Janeiro. Brasília's geographical central location made for a more regionally neutral federal capital. The idea of placing Brazil's capital in the interior dates back to the first republican constitution of 1891, which ...

BELÉM - Brazil Sensational
Belém is a Brazilian city, the capital and largest city of state of Pará, in the country's north region. It is the entrance gate to the Amazon with a busy port, airport and bus/coach station and fringed by freshwater beaches. Belém is also known as the Metropolis of the Brazilian Amazon region or the Cidade das Mangueiras (city of mango trees) due to the vast number of those trees found in the city. Brazilians often refer to the city as Belém do Pará ("Belém of Pará") rather than just Belém so as to differentiate it from the biblical Bethlehem in the West Bank (Palestinian territories) and also from Belém in Portugal. Belém has a modern appearance with tree-lined streets, several plazas and public gardens, and many noteworthy buildings. In many ways, Belém's colonial architecture reflects the seventeenth century architecture of Lisbon in Portugal. Neoclassical architecture is also present in buildings such as the Theatro da Paz, built in 1874. Many of the buildings at the end of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century also echo French architecture. Belém began with the narrow streets of the Cidade Velha (Old City), a district which still preserves structures that the Portuguese colonials built here, places like Forte do Castelo, a fort built to defend the region against French, Dutch and British colonization attempts, and one of the first structures in the capital. The Ver-o-pêso market is the biggest open market in Latin America where you can find everything ...

Senator Kate Lundy speaks about the future of the Australian National Capital
Please find the original blog post with additional information at http://www.katelundy.com.au/2009/09/25/creating-a-new-nations-capital-the-griffins-vision-for-canberra/
Introduction by Anne Lyons, Assist Director General at the National Archives of Australia
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the National Archives of Australia. My name is Anne Lyons and I'm the Assistant Director General here at the National Archives. Firstly I'd like to acknowledge the Ngunnawal people the traditional custodians of the land we meet on today. It's my pleasure to welcome Kate Lundy, Senator for the Australian Capital Territory and member of the National Archives Advisory Council to deliver today's Speaker's Corner "Creating a new Nation's Capital". Senator Lundy has represented the Australian Capital Territory in the Australian Federal Parliament as a member of the Australian Labor Party since 1996. She's held many portfolios in opposition, including Information Technology, Manufacturing, Consumer Affairs, Local Government, Sport and Health Promotion. Elected for the 5th time as part of the Rudd Labor Government, Senator Lundy is currently the chair of the Joint Standing Committee for the National Capital and External Territories, and is a long standing active member of the Senate Environment, Communications and Arts Committee.
Senator Lundy's passion for Canberra is reflected in her interest in the National Capital plan's origins, and it's ongoing relevance to a vibrant 21st century national capital for all Australian's to share and enjoy.
Being an enthusiastic rower, Senator Lundy has the opportunity to regularly enjoy Lake Burley Griffin and the surrounding inspiring landscape design, and the remarkable geometry that makes - by virtue of the Griffin Plan - Canberra itself a work of art. Today we're delighted that Senator Lundy's presenting a personal perspective on Canberra's design. She'll focus on the creation of the nation's capital, with reference to Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahoney Griffin: their background and influences, their roots in Chicago, and the implications of these international links.
To complement this lecture we're delighted to have on display a selection of the Griffin's original renderings. The items are a treasured part of the National Archives collection, and we're especially thrilled to be able to present a rare viewing of the largest of these plans. The triptych of the view from Mount Ainslie. I encourage you to view them after the presentation if you haven't already done so, and after the presentation we'll direct you down to where those drawings are.
So without any further words from me, I'd like to introduce Senator Kate Lundy.
Transcript of Senator Lundy's speech

20 September 2009
I want to begin my presentation today … in New York, 2009. The Guggenheim Museum has, for many months, been host to a remarkable retrospective exhibition in honour of the architect: Frank Lloyd Wright.
I had the privilege to view this exhibition whilst on a family holiday early in the northern hemisphere summer and it inspired me to explore further the relationship between the famous, if not notorious, American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, and his contemporary, the renowned, certainly in this city the renowned, Walter Burley Griffin.
What I saw at this exhibition were vast renderings of future cities envisaged but never built– and they all impacted with a real feeling of familiarity, of recognition of century-old, lofty ideals expressed through these imposing works of art and their accompanying interpretations. Why? Because there, in the middle of the museum mile in New York City, I was seeing and hearing a version, an interpretation of the ideas that sit at the heart of Canberra. The forces which inspired the Griffins to produce their visionary design of Canberra were also an inspiration for Frank Lloyd Wright, with his ‘living city’, or so-called ‘broadacre city’: Wright’s city in the landscape.
This wonderful New York moment got me thinking, speculating on the nature of the relationship between Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Burley Griffin and his life partner, Marion Mahony-- and how it was that we were living the vision, seemingly expressed by Frank Lloyd Wright later in his career, right here in our national capital in Australia. But in this room, we all know that the Griffin design came WELL BEFORE the Wright designs I was looking at in the Guggenheim. Indeed, the Griffins produced their masterwork heaps before the world knew anything much at all about Wright.
So my journey was one of delving into the source of this inspiration that, by circumstance and serendipity, meant that I found myself gazing at stylish renderings of Wright’s vision for an organic Baghdad at one with the landscape – his “broadacre city” – but I felt I was seeing a blood relation of Canberra!

Road Back to the Frozen Four (69 minutes)
History
[edit]Partridge and his academy
The university was founded in 1819 at Norwich by military educator and former superintendent of West Point, Captain Alden B. Partridge. Captain Partridge believed in the "American System of Education," a traditional liberal arts curriculum with instruction in civil engineering and military science. After leaving West Point because of congressional disapproval of his system, he returned to his native state of Vermont to create the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy. Captain Partridge, in founding his academy, rebelled against the reforms of Sylvanus Thayer to prevent the rise of what he saw as the greatest threat to the security of the young republic: a professional officer class. He believed that a well-trained militia was an urgent necessity and developed the American system around that idea. His academy became the inspiration for a number of military colleges throughout the nation, including both the Virginia Military Institute and The Citadel, and later the land grant colleges created through the Morrill Act of 1862.[4]
Partridge's educational beliefs were considered radical at the time, and this led to his conflicting views with the federal government while he was the superintendent of West Point. Upon creation of his own school, he immediately incorporated classes of agriculture and modern languages in addition to the sciences, liberal arts, and various military subjects. Field exercises, for which Partridge borrowed cannon and muskets from the federal and state governments, supplemented classroom instruction and added an element of realism to the college’s program of well-rounded military education.
Partridge founded six other military institutions during his quest to reform the fledgling United States military. They were the Virginia Literary, Scientific and Military Academy at Portsmouth, Virginia (1839–1846), Pennsylvania Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy at Bristol, Pennsylvania (1842–1845), Pennsylvania Military Institute at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (1845–1848), Wilmington Literary, Scientific and Military Academy at Wilmington, Delaware (1846–1848), the Scientific and Military Collegiate Institute at Reading, Pennsylvania (1850–1854), Gymnasium and Military Institute at Pembroke, New Hampshire (1850–1853) and the National Scientific and Military Academy at Brandywine Springs, Delaware (1853).[5]
[edit]Fire and hardship: Norwich in the 19th century
In 1825 the academy moved to Middletown, Connecticut, to provide better naval training to the school's growing corps of cadets. In 1829, the state of Connecticut declined to grant Captain Partridge a charter and he moved the school back to Norwich (the Middletown campus became Wesleyan University in 1831). Beginning in 1826, the college offered the first program of courses in civil engineering in the US. In 1834 Vermont granted a charter and recognized the institution as Norwich University. During the 1856 academic year, the first chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity was founded by cadets Frederick Norton Freeman and Arthur Chase. With the beginning of the Civil War in 1861, Norwich cadets served as instructors of the state militias throughout the Northeast and the entire class of 1862 enlisted upon its graduation. Norwich turned out hundreds of officers and soldiers who served with the federal armies in the American Civil War, including four recipients of the Medal of Honor. One graduate led a corps, seven more headed divisions, 21 commanded brigades, 38 led regiments, and various alumni served in 131 different regimental organizations. In addition, these men were eyewitnesses to some of the war's most dramatic events, including the bloodiest day of the conflict at Antietam, the attack up Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg, and the repulse of Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg. Seven hundred and fifty Norwich men served in the Civil War, of whom sixty fought for the Confederacy.[6] Because of the university's participation in the struggle, the number of students dwindled to seven in the class of 1864 alone.
The Confederate raid on St. Albans, Vermont precipitated fear that Newport, Vermont was an imminent target. The corps quickly boarded an express train for Newport, the same day, October 19, 1864, to the great relief of the inhabitants.
After a catastrophic fire in 1866 which devastated the entire campus, the town of Northfield welcomed the struggling school. The Civil War, the fire, and the uncertainty regarding the continuation of the University seriously lowered the attendance, and the school opened in the fall of 1866 with only 19 students. The 1870s and 1880s saw many financially turbulent times for the institution and the renaming of the school to Lewis College in 1880. In 1881 the student body was reduced to only a dozen men. Later, by 1884, the Vermont Legislature had the name of the school changed back to Norwich. In 1898 the university was designated as the Military

2011 Riverside County Year in Review Fifth District with Supervisor Marion Ashley
Hi There, Marion Ashley here playing centerfield at Perris Valley Big League Dreams. We are nearing completion of this $25 Million sports park project scheduled to open for use in January. This site will be home to six baseball/softball fields, four of them scaled-down versions of major league stadiums including replicas of Angel Stadium as you see here, Dodger Stadium, Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium.
Game watchers will enjoy stadium type seating like you would find at a major league ballpark, but even better than the majors because our seating areas will be cooled on hot days by a misting system. Indian students fight for a new state
College students in India's Telangana district are fighting to separate the region from the state of Andhra Pradesh. Telangana is the largest of three districts in Andhra Pradesh and the home of its capital, Hyderabad, India's information technology (IT) hub. However, it is also one of the most underdeveloped regions in the country. The movement to form a Telagana state began in 1969, with a student uprising in which more than 400 people died. In December of last year, the Indian government announced it would start the process to form the state, but bailed out two weeks later. Sohail Rahman reports from Andhra Pradesh. [April 2, 2010]

Daniel Ellsberg Exposes the US Government (Pentagon Papers Documentry) Part 3.avi
This is the documentary of the most revealing evidence that your US Government (The District of Columbia) continues to lie to the public and hides many facts of illegal operations aboard and on US soil. This also explains why Nixon was to be impeached for the Watergate burglaries he ordered. Don't watch this film if you believe the lie; that the US District of Columbia and its members care about you.........the fact is they are a corporation for profit, and they purchase and complete their evil with you as collateral ...the "mini corporations" created when your parents gave ownership over to them by the birth certificate. There is a reason you NAME is in all Capital letters; everything you own is property of the District of Columbia, when you are a US citizen. There is a big difference between the UNITED STATES and The United States of America. The President will always be introduced as the "president of the UNITED STATES", and never the United States of America...find out why people. Remember the President is only in charge of the District of Columbia and international territories (embassies and other commonwealths abroad), each and every State of the Union has a Governor which has final say on that State. The President is powerless in states without the States giving power to him. The States of the union have been tricked into this sick commerce game too. Just look at any court papers and ask why a state's name always appears in all CAPS. (Ie NEW JERSEY) Check you ...
