Nalaka is a seasoned and a dynamic IT/Business executive with a proven track record of successfully implementing many of the technology related industry firsts in Sri Lanka. He has also managed to achieve continuous process excellence with very strong Project/ Change Management skills for large scale and very complex software and ERP (SAP) implementation projects across several industries including Retail, Consumer Foods Manufacturing, Warehousing and Distribution.
Nalaka has a BSc in Information Systems, MSc. in Information Technology from University of Keele, United Kingdom and MA in International Relations from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He is a Member of British Computer Society, Chartered Information Technology Professional (UK), Member of the Australian Computer Society and a Member of Project Management Institute, USA. In addition, he is qualified in many industry and vendor certifications.
Nalaka has the unique ability to achieve optimum confluence between Business and Technology both at the strategic and operational levels. Over the past 17 years he has successfully positioned Information Technology as a strategic business driver in every industry he's been involved in.
Nalaka is also considered a thought leader in e-Commerce and m-Commerce in Sri Lanka by being instrumental in launching the first ever e-commerce and m-commerce enabled online super stores in Sri Lanka in 2002 and 2013 respectively. For his extraordinary work in entrepreneurship, Lonick Garius of Haiti was named a 2015 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the category of business, economic and/or entrepreneurial accomplishment.
From the early age of 12, Garius took his future and his education into his own hands. When his parent’s finances were reduced and Garius was forced to quit school, he discovered entrepreneurship as a means to provide financial stability for his own education.
Garius financed his studies through entrepreneurship endeavors including weaving dry banana leaves to make hats, baskets and similar artisan products for resale. He continued this venture until he earned his bachelor’s degree in medical technology. After receiving his degree, Garius launched his next entrepreneurial venture, Bioced, a medical initiative offering laboratory testing, internal medicine, psychiatry, gynecology and dental care at lowered costs enabling low-income individuals to have access to reliable health care. Bioced has since granted valuable, educational internships to medical students from public and private sector schools. Due to the great success of Bioced and his entrepreneurial experience, Garius alongside six partners, launched the ESNATECH School of Nursing and Medical Technology. Despite struggling with a number of infrastructure and enrollment challenges within the first few years, the enrollment rate has increased and ESNATECH now offers 1000 classes and supports all operational costs. Due to the schools success, a scholarship program has since been implemented to help young students who cannot afford such schooling. Also, to further his entrepreneurial endeavors and to create more jobs for local community members, Garius opened a hen house that started with 1500 hens and now just a year and a half later, is selling about 2500 hens every two months.
Garius developed his entrepreneurship at an early age as a way to finance his own education, however since then, he turned his actions toward contributing to the well-being of humanity. Today, he holds a university degree, owns four different businesses, employs nearly 100 individuals and is a Senior Laboratory Officer, working in HIV testing and providing technical assistance at Partner in Health, GHESKIO Center and Management Sciences for Health in the SMCS project. Garius’ story is proof that neither age nor financial means can be barriers to achieving ones dreams.

With a background in green architecture and project management, Zaheer Allam began a crusade for environmental sustainability. He is an advocate, researcher and entrepreneur with a focus on improving and protecting the Mauritian ecosystem. Allam is a founding member of Plateforme Citoyenne, a nongovernmental organization fighting against coal-powered plants in Mauritius and calling for renewable energy solutions. His goal is to eradicate all coal-powered plants from the island. Plateforme Citoyenne is an umbrella organization supporting local NGOs and communities that promote policies to protect the ecosystem. Allam creates sustainable solutions to in his home country of Mauritius and provides a positive example of environmental protection for active citizens worldwide.

For her extraordinary work uniting individuals through diversity, Sofiya Kalinova of Bulgaria was named a 2015 Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the category of humanitarian and/or voluntary leadership.
After being born deaf, Kalinova has overcome many barriers growing up in Bulgaria, but continues to dedicate herself to the development of deaf individuals in order to achieve equal access to educational opportunities, career integration and social equality.
After receiving information from the Ministry of Education that she would not be allowed to take an optional English portion for state exams due to the listening portion, Kalinova challenged and fought against this discrimination. As a result, every deaf Bulgarian student now has the right to take the exam tailored to his or her disability. Kalinova’s leadership skills continue and remain essential to the deaf community; she realized early on that to defend the rights of people is the human task in life. She has been working toward the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities in Bulgaria and Europe and is also closely associated with the British Council, where she assisted in the development of a competition for free training in English for the disabled. Kalinova, along with other ambitious deaf students will form the Bulgarian Student Union of Deaf, bringing together students from all Bulgarian Universities and colleges of education to defend the social rights of deaf students.
Kalinova believes there is unity in diversity, and advocates for integration between the deaf and hearing. She believes integration will foster a sense of self-improvement for the deaf that can lead to realizing their future aspirations, and on a larger-scale will contribute to the labor market and economy. Her service to the deaf community locally, nationally and internationally has brought meaning to the motto “Deaf people can do anything except hear.”

For her extraordinary work in corporate social responsibility and community
action, Katherine Sparkes of Bristol, England was named a 2012 JCI Ten
Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the
category of moral and/or environmental leadership.
Destined to become a creative entrepreneur, Katherine Sparkes started her
career in journalism and gained early work experience at a variety of public
relations and event management firms. She then decided to take her
enthusiasm and ideas on a new adventure. She realized the need for an
agency that could help highlight service opportunities that companies could
use to publicize their value as a corporate citizen. At age 22, she turned her
vision into a reality by starting Flamingo, a firm that provides needy charities
with corporate clients capable of creating innovative, hands-on, sustainable
community projects on a local, national and global basis.
Pairing her business experience and passion to address social issues,
Sparkes helps boost the alliance between business and society through
powerful projects. Her aim is to help people help themselves and each
project is designed to be sustainable and beneficial for each community,
while also bringing positive change to the business involved.
When she began her crusade in 2003, many people were not even aware of
or understood the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Through
her hard work, Flamingo now provides companies access to CSR initiatives
and a unique way to give back to the community. Flamingo enables
businesses which otherwise would not have the ability, staffing or resources
to get involved and be active corporate citizens. Sparkes' story provides a
great example of how one young person can take his or her ideas and turn
them into concrete positive change. She inspires and empowers others to
use their business success to take action to create a better world.

Nicolás García Mayor of Argentina selected as one of the 2014 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World
For his extraordinary work in sustainable industrial design and disaster response solutions, Nicolás García Mayor of Argentina was named a 2014 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the category of contribution to children, world peace, and/or human rights.
With education and experience in industrial and eco design, Nicolás García Mayor uses his skills to give back to his community. García Mayor led a working group that created a community center providing school support and food for impoverished families. Looking to combine his humanitarian passion with design, he then founded ar estudio, a design and innovation space that develops new products in industrial design, architecture graphic design and eco design to improve people’s quality of life.
As a socially responsible business, ar estudio conducts community projects for underserved areas through partnerships with organizations that promote healthy living habits, raise awareness for environmental protection and donate food and school supplies. To continue serving those who need it most, García Mayor developed the idea for Cmax system, an immediate response system of emergency shelters for those displaced by natural disasters, armed conflicts and complex emergencies. Cmax is a folding system of sanitary units with the capacity to house up to ten people and quickly provide a survival kit. These mobile shelters have telescopic legs allowing them to be lifted from the floor away from wet, germ-breeding ground.
Despite initial development challenges, García Mayor managed to create a working shelter that is safe, healthy and quickly assembled for victims of disaster. He was asked to present at the International Forum for the Development of Humanitarian Aid where he caught the attention of the United Nations. He then presented his Cmax system at the 68th UN General Assembly and was offered a partnership for the realization of this project. García Mayor’s sustainable design initiatives provide a positive example to others of combining one’s expertise with one’s passion in order to help others in great times of need.

For her extraordinary work in human rights advocacy for the handicapped,
Fela Mijoro Razafinjato of Morondava, Madagascar was named a 2012 JCI
Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the
category of humanitarian and/or voluntary leadership.
Diagnosed with polio at the age of three, Fela Mijoro Razafinjato's battle with
the disease has given her the strength to help others who are handicapped.
She succeeded through her early years of schooling and went on to
complete both graduate and postgraduate studies. Her interest in protecting
the rights of the handicapped in Madagascar prompted a research trip to the
United States. During her visit, she learned more about concrete actions
taken by people in the US to protect disabled rights.
Upon her return to Madagascar, she took her ideas straight to parliament.
Razafinjato pioneered the adoption of a law recognizing the rights of
handicapped people and providing assistance to nearly two million disabled
persons across her country. Her experience, research and passionate
advocacy quickly turned into a victory for the disabled.
In 2003, she founded her own organization, Centre Sembana Mijoro, to
provide educational and professional assistance for handicapped children
and young adults. By receiving help through schooling, followed by
occupational training, each center pupil can live a strong and independent
life. Razafinjato is also founder of the Association of Handicapped Women in
Madagascar, an organization that works to keep disabled rights on the
forefront of the national political agenda. Her goal is to prove that
handicapped people can live a life free from discrimination as they take
actions in their communities despite physical obstacles.

The Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP)
Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) program serves to formally recognize young people who excel in their chosen fields and exemplify the best attributes of the world's young people. The program is sponsored by Junior Chamber International (JCI).
Honorees that are selected have represented the heights of progress in numerous human endeavors. Many have gone on to even greater achievements. All have continued to serve humanity in a great variety of ways.
Young men and women may be nominated in one of ten categories. The honorees will be selected by an international panel of distinguished judges. Up to ten honorees will be selected from all nominations received, regardless of category entered.

Ten Outstanding Young Persons
Ten Outstanding Young Persons schemes are award schemes in various countries honouring young people for their achievements. The recipients of such awards may be submitted to JCI as nominees for the Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) program.
Hong Kong
Ten Outstanding Young Persons awards are given annually in Hong Kong by the Junior Chamber International Hong Kong to ten people under 40 who have achieved distinction in various fields. Past recipients have included leading sportspersons, those who have contributed to society in various ways, and those who have successfully overcome daunting handicaps.

Nicolás García Mayor
Nicolás García Mayor (Bahía Blanca, December 15, 1978) is an Argentine industrial designer focused in humanitarian development and preservation of the environment, highlighting the functionality and organic aesthetics in every project. He worked and lived in Europe conducting various architectural and design projects. Today his designs travel around the globe and are exposed in different parts of the world. Among other recognitions, in 2014 he was awarded by JCI with World TOYP for his contribution to children, world peace and Human Rights. According to the presidency of Argentina is a 'pride for the country'. He is a consultant to the UN, various world governments, and conforms research groups with the CONICET in Argentina, Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi, Nifeg (Nigeria Energy Future Group), among others.

At age 22, she turned her vision into a reality by starting Flamingo, a firm that provides needy charities with corporate clients capable of creating innovative, hands-on, sustainable community projects on a local, national and global basis. Pairing her business experience and passion to address social issues, Sparkes helps boost the alliance between business and society through powerful projects. Her aim is to help people help themselves and each project is designed to be sustainable and beneficial for each community, while also bringing positive change to the business involved. When she began her crusade in 2003, many people were not even aware of or understood the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Nicolás García Mayor of Argentina selected as one of the 2014 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World For his extraordinary work in sustainable industrial design and disaster response solutions, Nicolás García Mayor of Argentina was named a 2014 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the category of contribution to children, world peace, and/or human rights. With education and experience in industrial and eco design, Nicolás García Mayor uses his skills to give back to his community. García Mayor led a working group that created a community center providing school support and food for impoverished families. Looking to combine his humanitarian passion with design, he then founded ar estudio, a design and innovation space that develops new products in industrial design, architecture graphic design and eco design to improve people’s quality of life. As a socially responsible business, ar estudio conducts community projects for underserved areas through partnerships with organizations that promote healthy living habits, raise awareness for environmental protection and donate food and school supplies. To continue serving those who need it most, García Mayor developed the idea for Cmax system, an immediate response system of emergency shelters for those displaced by natural disasters, armed conflicts and complex emergencies. Cmax is a folding system of sanitary units with the capacity to house up to ten people and quickly provide a survival kit. These mobile shelters have telescopic legs allowing them to be lifted from the floor away from wet, germ-breeding ground. Despite initial development challenges, García Mayor managed to create a working shelter that is safe, healthy and quickly assembled for victims of disaster. He was asked to present at the International Forum for the Development of Humanitarian Aid where he caught the attention of the United Nations. He then presented his Cmax system at the 68th UN General Assembly and was offered a partnership for the realization of this project. García Mayor’s sustainable design initiatives provide a positive example to others of combining one’s expertise with one’s passion in order to help others in great times of need. For her extraordinary work in human rights advocacy for the handicapped, Fela Mijoro Razafinjato of Morondava, Madagascar was named a 2012 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the category of humanitarian and/or voluntary leadership. Diagnosed with polio at the age of three, Fela Mijoro Razafinjato's battle with the disease has given her the strength to help others who are handicapped. She succeeded through her early years of schooling and went on to complete both graduate and postgraduate studies. Her interest in protecting the rights of the handicapped in Madagascar prompted a research trip to the United States. During her visit, she learned more about concrete actions taken by people in the US to protect disabled rights. Upon her return to Madagascar, she took her ideas straight to parliament. Razafinjato pioneered the adoption of a law recognizing the rights of handicapped people and providing assistance to nearly two million disabled persons across her country. Her experience, research and passionate advocacy quickly turned into a victory for the disabled. In 2003, she founded her own organization, Centre Sembana Mijoro, to provide educational and professional assistance for handicapped children and young adults. By receiving help through schooling, followed by occupational training, each center pupil can live a strong and independent life. Razafinjato is also founder of the Association of Handicapped Women in Madagascar, an organization that works to keep disabled rights on the forefront of the national political agenda. Her goal is to prove that handicapped people can live a life free from discrimination as they take actions in their communities despite physical obstacles. -

He is an advocate, researcher and entrepreneur with a focus on improving and protecting the Mauritian ecosystem. Allam is a founding member of Plateforme Citoyenne, a nongovernmental organization fighting against coal-powered plants in Mauritius and calling for renewable energy solutions. His goal is to eradicate all coal-powered plants from the island. Plateforme Citoyenne is an umbrella organization supporting local NGOs and communities that promote policies to protect the ecosystem. From the early age of 12, Garius took his future and his education into his own hands. When his parent’s finances were reduced and Garius was forced to quit school, he discovered entrepreneurship as a means to provide financial stability for his own education.
Garius financed his studies through entrepreneurship endeavors including weaving dry banana leaves to make hats, baskets and similar artisan products for resale. He continued this venture until he earned his bachelor’s degree in medical technology. After receiving his degree, Garius launched his next entrepreneurial venture, Bioced, a medical initiative offering laboratory testing, internal medicine, psychiatry, gynecology and dental care at lowered costs enabling low-income individuals to have access to reliable health care. Bioced has since granted valuable, educational internships to medical students from public and private sector schools. Due to the great success of Bioced and his entrepreneurial experience, Garius alongside six partners, launched the ESNATECH School of Nursing and Medical Technology. Despite struggling with a number of infrastructure and enrollment challenges within the first few years, the enrollment rate has increased and ESNATECH now offers 1000 classes and supports all operational costs. Due to the schools success, a scholarship program has since been implemented to help young students who cannot afford such schooling. Also, to further his entrepreneurial endeavors and to create more jobs for local community members, Garius opened a hen house that started with 1500 hens and now just a year and a half later, is selling about 2500 hens every two months.
Garius developed his entrepreneurship at an early age as a way to finance his own education, however since then, he turned his actions toward contributing to the well-being of humanity. Today, he holds a university degree, owns four different businesses, employs nearly 100 individuals and is a Senior Laboratory Officer, working in HIV testing and providing technical assistance at Partner in Health, GHESKIO Center and Management Sciences for Health in the SMCS project. Garius’ story is proof that neither age nor financial means can be barriers to achieving ones dreams.

After being born deaf, Kalinova has overcome many barriers growing up in Bulgaria, but continues to dedicate herself to the development of deaf individuals in order to achieve equal access to educational opportunities, career integration and social equality.
After receiving information from the Ministry of Education that she would not be allowed to take an optional English portion for state exams due to the listening portion, Kalinova challenged and fought against this discrimination. As a result, every deaf Bulgarian student now has the right to take the exam tailored to his or her disability. Kalinova’s leadership skills continue and remain essential to the deaf community; she realized early on that to defend the rights of people is the human task in life. For his extraordinary work in sustainable industrial design and disaster response solutions, Nicolás García Mayor of Argentina was named a 2014 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the category of contribution to children, world peace, and/or human rights.
With education and experience in industrial and eco design, Nicolás García Mayor uses his skills to give back to his community. García Mayor led a working group that created a community center providing school support and food for impoverished families. Looking to combine his humanitarian passion with design, he then founded ar estudio, a design and innovation space that develops new products in industrial design, architecture graphic design and eco design to improve people’s quality of life.
As a socially responsible business, ar estudio conducts community projects for underserved areas through partnerships with organizations that promote healthy living habits, raise awareness for environmental protection and donate food and school supplies. To continue serving those who need it most, García Mayor developed the idea for Cmax system, an immediate response system of emergency shelters for those displaced by natural disasters, armed conflicts and complex emergencies. Cmax is a folding system of sanitary units with the capacity to house up to ten people and quickly provide a survival kit. These mobile shelters have telescopic legs allowing them to be lifted from the floor away from wet, germ-breeding ground.
Despite initial development challenges, García Mayor managed to create a working shelter that is safe, healthy and quickly assembled for victims of disaster. He was asked to present at the International Forum for the Development of Humanitarian Aid where he caught the attention of the United Nations. He then presented his Cmax system at the 68th UN General Assembly and was offered a partnership for the realization of this project. García Mayor’s sustainable design initiatives provide a positive example to others of combining one’s expertise with one’s passion in order to help others in great times of need.

Fela Mijoro Razafinjato of Morondava, Madagascar was named a 2012 JCI
Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the
category of humanitarian and/or voluntary leadership.
Diagnosed with polio at the age of three, Fela Mijoro Razafinjato's battle with
the disease has given her the strength to help others who are handicapped.
She succeeded through her early years of schooling and went on to
complete both graduate and postgraduate studies. Her interest in protecting
the rights of the handicapped in Madagascar prompted a research trip to the
United States. During her visit, she learned more about concrete actions
taken by people in the US to protect disabled rights.
Upon her return to Madagascar, she took her ideas straight to parliament.
Razafinjato pioneered the adoption of a law recognizing the rights of
handicapped people and providing assistance to nearly two million disabled
persons across her country. Her experience, research and passionate
advocacy quickly turned into a victory for the disabled.
In 2003, she founded her own organization, Centre Sembana Mijoro, to
provide educational and professional assistance for handicapped children
and young adults. By receiving help through schooling, followed by
occupational training, each center pupil can live a strong and independent
life. Razafinjato is also founder of the Association of Handicapped Women in
Madagascar, an organization that works to keep disabled rights on the
forefront of the national political agenda. Her goal is to prove that
handicapped people can live a life free from discrimination as they take
actions in their communities despite physical obstacles.

For my forth country of the year, I flew over to Sri Lanka, starting in the capital, Colombo. After a day on the road, I found myself in the stunning surroundings of Dambulla, where I wasted no time in trekking the Sri Lankan jungle. For my forth country of the year, I flew over to Sri Lanka, starting in the capital, Colombo. After a day on the road, I found myself in the stunning surroundings of Dambulla, where I wasted no time in trekking the Sri Lankan jungle. We then spent some time in Sigiriya, relaxing in the Jetwing hotel and seeing elephants on safari! After another long journey up to the North of the country, we spent a week on the beaches of Trincomalee, where we saw dolphins, whales and I indulged in a spot of jetskiing. But before going home, I had to experience one of the most famous Sri Lankan delicacies, it's tea, in Kandy.

Day 1: Bandaranaike Airport to Kandy
Day 2-4: We stayed in Kandy and visited the Temple of the Tooth, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Sygiria (this was a day trip).
Day 5: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and did White Water Rafting at Kitulgala (AM) vistited the Blue Field Tea Factory (PM) enroute.
Day 6: Nuwara Eliya to Ella. We woke up early to walk on the Horton Plains and see World's End before continuing our journey by train in the Observation Car to Ella (I highly recommend this trip!).
Day 7: Ella to Yala National Park with a safari in the afternoon.
Day 8: Yala to Tangalla
Day 8-10: Beach in Tangalla
Day 11: Tangalla to Mirissa
Day 12: Mirissa to Unawatuna
Day 13-14: Unawatuna
Day 15: Unawatuna to Galle
Day 16: Fly Home!
We met an amazing guide called Sangeeth who took us from Kandy all the way to Tangalla. If you are interested his website is at:
