Suriye Türkmenleri - Syrian Turkmens -
Syrian Turks (Turks in Syria, Syrian Turkoman or Syrian Turkmen) (Turkish: Suriye Türkleri) are Syrian citizens of Turkish descent, who have been living in the Syrian provinces of the Ottoman Empire before its dissolution and continue to live in the modern country of Syria. In the late 11th century, Syria was conquered first by the Seljuk Turks and then by the Ottoman Sultan Selim I in 1516 after defeating the Mamlukes at the Battle of Marj Dabiq near Aleppo in northern Syria. Turkmen villages were resettled by the Ottoman Empire because of fear of unrest and riots that were caused by the Bedouin tribes during droughts. The instability of the Ottoman Empire made it difficult to control the tribes. Aelkezl Bash was a prominent anti-Ottoman leader. After the Ottomans returned from conquests in Europe however, they were able to put down revolutionary activities in the area and resettled the Turkmen to the villages of Latakia, Aleppo, Homs, and Hama in the Golan.

Syrian village clings to Aramaic language - 25 Dec 07
As Christians around the world mark the birth of Jesus Christ, for one Syrian village the day has a little extra significance. Maaloula is one of very few places where Western Aramaic, the native language of Jesus, is still spoken. But as Jane Dutton reports, despite determined efforts by residents and the government, the ancient tongue is in danger of dying out.

Syria
Syria
Syria is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. The name Syria formerly comprised the entire region of the Levant, while the modern state encompasses the site of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the third millennium BC. In the Islamic era, its capital city, Damascus, was the seat of the Umayyad Empire and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Empire. Damascus is widely regarded as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Modern Syria was created as a French mandate and attained independence in April 1946, as a parliamentary republic. The post-independence period was rocky, and a large number of military coups and coup attempts shook the country in the period 1949-1970. Syria has been under Emergency Law since 1962, effectively suspending most constitutional protections for citizens, and its system of government is considered non-democratic. The country has been governed by the Baath Party since 1963, although actual power is concentrated to the presidency and a narrow grouping of military and political strongmen. Syria's current president is Bashar al-Assad, who won a referendum on extending his presidency for second term, garnering 97.62 percent of votes in 2007 and is the son of Hafez al-Assad, who held office from 1970 until his death in 2000. Syria has played a major regional ...

Adnan Al-Arour Says that They will Chop the Alawaites who Oppose the Syrian Revolution
Press the cc button on the player to view the translation... Old video that was removed from our YouTube channel... We uploaded it again... Adnan Al-Arour... The godfather of the Syrian Revolution 2011. A Sheikh lives in Saudi and receives their ultimate support. You can see his ugly face on Wisal and Safa TV Sat-Channels. These two channels promote religious hatred against specific sects especially the Alawaites and the Shiites. I despise Saudi, the state that hosts such a criminal, and such disgusting channels and allow them to emit their poisons. I despise Saudi the state that promotes and supports terrorism wherever US government needs it. And shame on the west who allied himself with this disgusting state. In this interview Arour says that they Syrian rebels will chop the Alawaites who opposed the so-called "Syrian Revolution" and feed their flesh to the dogs. How peaceful and civil.. Curse everyone and every media who says that what is happening in Syria are peaceful demonstrations...

Iraqs Refugees - 4000000 Displaced (UN)
This is the surge the other way; the haemorrhaging of a dying nation. A humanitarian disaster unfolding the UN says; nearly four million Iraqis displaced now by sectarian cleansing, kidnap and carnage; two million have fled altogether, half of them here in Syria; busload after busload arriving in Damascus, a hundred thousand more every month.
