The decline of the Church is perhaps felt nowhere more acutely than in Ireland. Once a model of holiness and apostolic zeal, its downfall is a serious wakeup call for The Church in America and other countries. Note on why comments are blocked : People can't keep from filling their comments with swear words, personal insults, and even physical threats. Even the people who began nicely and politely then degenerated into personal insults after I engaged with them. No-one needs racism, physical threats, insults etc. etc. I don't want to read it, and is it really worth anyone's time to post? People aren't talking about the topic of the video - this video isn't about contraception and the African AIDS crisis. But people want it to be, because they have some things to say about it. When we've tried to engage people on what and why the Church does what she does commentators simply haven't believed us; we say the Church doesn't do this for money or control, and we oppose contraception because it is morally evil etc. And people tell us that is not the reason, or say "Salvation, yeah, whatever, but really ...." If people aren't going to accept our words about our reasons and motivations, there is no rational dialog possible. In the end, we'll be called cowards and every other name under the sun - we've been called that before (and worse, in these comment boxes) so we don't mind. God bless, and we will be praying for all of you. We apologize for any lack of charity we have displayed ...

Address of Senator John F. Kennedy to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association.
Presidential candidate John F. Kennedys major address to a group of Protestant ministers on the religious issue. Many Protestants questioned the ability of a Roman Catholic President to make important national decisions independently of the influence of his church. Senator Kennedy answers those questions before an audience of Protestant clergy, many of whom may believe that he can not. John F. Kennedy's Separation of Church and State Speech. A Corrupt and Unjust Irish Catholic Church
Hey guys. So I know this video is very rambly and it does sound like I'm just shitein on! (Which I am, dagnabbit!) But still, this is a subject I feel quite strongly about! In case my points in this video come across as unclear and vague in this improvised video, here's the gist of what I was trying (very badly) to say. 1. I was baptized into the Catholic church out of tradition and culture. I made my first holy communion aged 7 or 8, my first confession, my confirmation, all when I was a young child who didn't have the ability to make up my own mind about things. To be, this is absolutely ridiculous. What's the point in baptizing a person into a religion as a baby, when they're not even giving consent to it? It's taking advantage of young and innocent children in my opinion and it doesn't make any sense! 2. There have been MULTIPLE scandals from the irish catholic church in the last few years. Sexual abuse on children and the reveal of the magdeline laundry scandal (Google it or listen to this video for a description of what the magedline laundries were!) 3. Organised religion in general is in my opinion, ridiculous. I am a very spiritual person. I believe in spirits and angels, etc. But organised religion seems to be all about politics and discrimination. They reject so many people for stupid reasons. For instance, the irish catholic church rejects homosexuals and expects women to remain in the home being a mother and housewife for their lives. 4. The irish catholic ...

16x9 - Slave Labour: Magdalene Laundries disgraced Irish Catholic women
For almost 150 years thousands of women in Ireland were sent to live in Catholic institutions, punished for crimes like having a child out of wedlock or petty theft, and forced to work in laundries run by the Church. But this dark past is not Ireland's alone. In a 16x9 exclusive, we discover Canadian laundries and speak to a woman who says she was born into slave labour.

"savita halappanavar" "halappanavar" "indian dentist" "ireland" "pregnancy" "abortion" "abortion refused" "Irish Hospital" "septicaemia" "Galway University Hospital" "Abortion illegal" "Republic of Ireland" "Enda Kenny" The husband of a pregnant woman who died in an Irish hospital has said he has no doubt she would be alive if she had been allowed an abortion. Savita Halappanavar's family said she asked several times for her pregnancy to be terminated because she had severe back pain and was miscarrying. Her husband told the BBC that it was refused because there was a foetal heartbeat. Ms Halappanavar's death, on 28 October, is the subject of two investigations. An autopsy carried out two days after her death found she had died from septicaemia, according to the Irish Times. Ms Halappanavar, who was 31 and originally from India, was a dentist. Praveen Halappanavar said staff at University Hospital Galway told them Ireland was "a Catholic country". When asked by the BBC if he thought his wife would still be alive if the termination had been allowed, Mr Halappanavar said: "Of course, no doubt about it." He said Savita had been "on top of the world" before experiencing difficulties. "It was her first baby, first pregnancy and you know she was on top of the world basically," he said. "She was so happy and everything was going well, she was so excited. "On the Saturday night everything changed, she started experiencing back pain so we called into the hospital, the university ...

Indian Woman 'Refused' Abortion In Ireland Dies
..." style="float: right; margin-right: -5px;">
Woman 'Refused' Abortion In Ireland Dies Health officials investigate after the woman's husband says doctors told his wife: "This is a Catholic Country." Investigations have been launched after a pregnant woman died in hospital in Ireland after allegedly being refused an abortion. Savita Halappanavar, 31, suffered a miscarriage and septicaemia. Her husband Praveen claims doctors refused to carry out a termination for religious reasons. Mrs Halappanavar, who was from India, was 17 weeks pregnant when admitted to Galway University Hospital. She was suffering from agonising pain and, according to her husband, made several requests for an abortion. Mr Halappanavar, 34, said doctors had refused to terminate the pregnancy because there was a foetal heartbeat and told his wife: "This is a Catholic country." The young woman, who had been practising as a dentist in the Republic of Ireland for some time, died on October 28 after developing septicaemia - an infection in the blood. Her death is expected to spark a backlash against the Irish government, criticised by left-wing members of parliament for failing to introduce new laws to permit abortion in life-threatening circumstances. Clare Daly, a Socialist Party member of parliament, said: "A woman has died because Galway University Hospital refused to perform an abortion needed to prevent serious risk to her life. "We were told this situation would never arise. An unviable foetus - she was having a miscarriage - was given priority ...

Catholic Youth in Ireland
December 2nd 2011 ~ Meet Leoni, whome I first met after Mass at Mount Mellory, the Trappist Abbey in Munster, Co. Waterford, Ireland. We were able to meet a second time on my way through to Middletown and talked about the Faith in Ireland and her time in Medjugorie, Bosnia. Her mother is the best! And I was so happy and fortunate to meet both of them twice! May the Catholic Youth of Ireland bring forth a reform of fidelity to Christ and the Catholic faith. Onward we roll for the mission!

850 Ireland's Catholic Priests want end to celibacy, allow gay relationships & women ordained
..." style="float: right; margin-right: -5px;">
A survey of Irish Catholics by the Association of Catholic Priests (ACP) found 90% would support married priests, 77% want women ordained, and more than 60% disagreed that gay relationships were immoral. The Vatican criticised the ACP for expressing views which contradict Church teaching. Pope Benedict warned the Church would not tolerate priests speaking out against Catholic teaching. The ACP which represents 850 Irish priests held a meeting on 7 May 2012 to discuss the future direction of the Catholic Church. The ACP meeting comes at a turbulent time for the Church in Ireland. Its leader, Cardinal Sean Brady, is facing calls to resign over his handling of a clerical sex abuse case. Change The ACP meeting, entitled "Towards an Assembly of the Irish Catholic Church", will take place at hotel in Dublin. It has been described as a first effort to bring people together to discuss the current state of Catholic Church in Ireland which has been rocked in recent years by a series of high profile child abuse scandals. During that period, a number of priests have openly expressed their desire for change in Church rules on matters such as clerical celibacy, the ordination of women and the ban on contraception. However, in recent months, some of Ireland's most vocal, liberal priests have been disciplined by the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF). They include leading ACP member, Father Tony Flannery, and the broadcaster and newspaper columnist Fr Brian D'Arcy ...

Pope's apology 'not enough'
Pope Benedict XVI, the Roman Catholic leader, has written to Irish Catholics to apologise for failing to deal with cases of child sex abuse within the church. But victims of abuse say the apology does not go far enough. They want the pope to break his silence on the church role's in shielding paedophile clergy from prosecution. Al Jazeera's Laurence Lee reports from Dublin, the Irish capital. (20 March 2010)
