Sir Paul Stephenson, Neil Wallis & The £10k Freebie - NOTW Phone Hacking *NEW*
The career of Sir Paul Stephenson is hanging in the balance after it emerged he enjoyed a five-week stay for free at a luxurious health farm promoted by the former deputy editor of the News of the World. Click the link below to SUBSCRIBE to the 'News of the World Phone Hacking' YouTube channel @ www.youtube.com For upto date news on the hacking scandal, follow me on Twitter @ twitter.com Sir Paul, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, stayed at Champneys in Tring in Hertfordshire while recovering from a broken leg in January this year. The fracture to his thigh was sustained following surgery to remove a pre-cancerous tumour from his leg. Champneys was being promoted by Outside Organisation, a public relations firm whose managing director was Neil Wallis, the former deputy editor of the News of the World who was arrested last week in connection with the phone hacking scandal. Outside had picked up the contract to manage Champneys in November last year, two months before Sir Paul's stay. Sir Paul was already under intense pressure over the decision to hire Mr Wallis as a media consultant to the Met police for 12 months until he quit in September 2010 amid further revelations of phone hacking. The appointment of Mr Wallis was only declared last week and following his arrest, prompting serious questions over Sir Paul's judgment. The stay will have saved him thousands of pounds. Sir Paul was offered hospitality by News International on 15 occasions between April 2007 and ...

Media lawyer wants more UK press regulation (29Oct12)
Media lawyer Charlotte Harris wants more UK press regulation, should be nice earner for rich clients, while scandals like the Sir Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal be continued to be covered up, just as it has been for years by using UK's corrupt and out of control libel laws. The media lawyer clutching at straws when ex-newspaper man Neil Wallis has a go at her line of more regulation... which means more censorship to protect the rich who use the media for their own ends, and who only want it for their PR stunts. Naked Harry sparks Fleet Street retreat
British media question whether they have been neutered by the scandals and the media ethics inquiry that have gripped the industry at News of the World. The decision by the British press not to publish pictures of Prince Harry naked in Las Vegas has sparked a media debate with one former News Of The World editor saying the Leveson Inquiry into media ethics following phone hacking has neutered newspapers. No, this is not "the" picture of Prince Harry cutting loose in Las Vegas - Britain's top selling tabloid recreated the naughty nude shot to make a point. The Sun - along with the rest of the British media - decided not to publish the real thing which first appeared on an American celebrity gossip website. The royal's representatives appealed to the UK press watchdog after photos of the naked Prince emerged. Some in the industry were amazed they complied. Former executive editor Neil Wallis says UK newspapers have been neutered as a result of the recent phone hacking scandal that led to the closure of his former paper, News of the World. (SOUNDBITE) (English): NEIL WALLIS, FORMER EXECUTIVE EDITOR OF THE NEWS OF THE WORLD, SAYING: "I have no doubts at all that 15 months ago these pictures would have been in the British newspaper - today No - and I think that that the idea - an editor's decision making - has been taken away because of fears over Leveson is not healthy." Several foreign media commentators have ridiculed Fleet Street for losing its bite.

Scotland Yard made the statement in response to newspaper reports that former News of the World deputy editor Neil Wallis was a PR consultant for Champneys health spa when Sir Paul stayed there earlier this year after an operation. The Met statement said: "Following his operations, the commissioner stayed with his wife, at Champneys Medical from Monday to Friday over a period of five weeks earlier this year where he underwent an extensive programme of hydro and physiotherapy. This enabled him to return to work six weeks earlier than anticipated. As with many officers, the Met paid the intensive physiotherapy costs. The accommodation and meals were arranged and provided by Stephen Purdew, MD of Champneys, a personal family friend who has no connection with or links to his professional life." Phil Smith acting as Neil Wallis' solicitor said: "There is no connection whatsoever between any stay that Sir Paul Stephenson may have had at Champneys and Neil Wallis. Neither Neil Wallis nor anyone connected to him had any involvement whatsoever in any ...

Pressure Grows On Met Chief
video.news.sky.com There are fresh questions over links between the Metropolitan Police and executives at News International. It has emerged that the Met Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson accepted thousands of pounds worth of free hospitality at a luxury health spa, while recovering from illness. Neil Wallis, the former News of the World deputy editor arrested earlier this week as part of the phone hacking inquiry, was acting as a PR consultant for the Champneys retreat at the time. The Home Secretary will make a statement the Commons tomorrow about the Met's links with Neil Wallis. Scotland Yard, Champneys and Mr Wallis all deny any impropriety. Sky's Tom Parmenter reports...

Issues on Prince Harry Nude Photos !!!
The Sun tabloid came up with the most creative solution, getting a staff member named Harry and a 21-year-old female intern to recreate the naked pose under the headline "Harry grabs the crown jewels." Bob Satchwell, head of industry group the Society of Editors, said papers were merely complying with editors' voluntary Code of Practice, which declares "it is unacceptable to photograph individuals in private places without their consent." But other media-watchers said a scandal that erupted a year ago over phone-hacking and other tabloid wrongdoing had tamed Britain's once-rambunctious press. Newspapers were exposed to a trial of public opinion as Judge Brian Leveson's media ethics inquiry heard from celebrities, politicians and crime victims who said their lives had been turned upside down by press intrusion. The scandal has killed one tabloid, the News of the World — shut down by owner Rupert Murdoch after revelations about its illegal eavesdropping — and tarnished the entire British media. With the inquiry considering whether to impose stricter limits on press freedom, many feel the tabloids are staying away from kiss-and-tells and celebrity scoops that they once would have relished. Neil Wallis, a former News of the World executive editor, said fallout from the hacking scandal had left newspapers "terrified of their own shadow." "In this post-Leveson era ... they daren't do things that most of the country, if they saw it in the newspaper, would think 'that's a bit of ...

The 60-year-old's two-day-a-week contract was cancelled less than six months before the launch of Operation Weeting - the second investigation into phone hacking at News International. Following this latest development, London Mayor Boris Johnson summoned the Metropolitan Police commissioner to City Hall to explain. The two men are said to have had a "very frank discussion" lasting nearly an hour and a half. A spokesman for Mr Johnson said: "Sir Paul Stephenson reassured the Mayor that the investigation at Scotland Yard is proceeding as swiftly and thoroughly as possible. He explained the circumstances of the hiring on a part-time, short-term basis of Neil Wallis." PHONE HACKING SCANDAL: Rupert Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks face MPs 19/7/11 HD
Ten members of staff at Scotland Yard's directorate of public affairs (DPA) have previously worked for News International, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson said today. Rupert Murdoch's future as the head of his own media empire was hanging in the balance today as he prepared to be grilled by MPs about the phone hacking scandal that has engulfed his company. The 80-year-old boss of News Corp and his son James will appear before the Culture, Media and Sport select committee this afternoon. Insiders at the company -- owners of the News of the World which was forced to shut last week - today claimed that a future without Mr Murdoch at the helm was already under discussion. And they said that much would depend on how he performed before the committee. News Corp executives who watched Mr Murdoch rehearse for his appearance were said to have concerns about the way in which he handled questions. There is speculation that chief operating officer Chase Carey could be promoted to chief executive officer, the position currently held by Mr Murdoch. The media tycoon would remain chairman of the company. A report in the Wall Street Journal today suggested that Mr Murdoch has been considering stepping down even before the phone hacking scandal broke. As the Murdochs prepared to go before the select committee, fallout from the phone hacking scandal continued to spread. Today, the Met's director of public affairs Dick Fedorcio was referred to the Independent Police ...
