NC700X - Tagestour im Thüringer Wald (Teil 1) / day-trip in Thuringian Forest (Part 1)
Spontane Tour zum Thüringer Wald im Oktober 2013. Wegen 2,5 stündiger Anfahrt fiel die Runde etwas kleiner aus, gab aber trotzdem reichlich phantastische Kilometer unter die Reifen und wunderbare Aussichten. Trotz Feiertages war absolut wenig Verkehr, und mehr Wanderer als Autos auf dem Rennsteig. Es war eine großartige Tour und wird definitiv wiederholt. Leider habe ich aus Zeitgründen zu wenige Stopps gemacht, man sollte mind. 2 Tage einplanen. Because of the 2,5 h travel to the Forest, unfortunately the trip became shorter than planned. But anyway the tour was absolutely fantastic and will be repeated asap! Even tough there was public holiday in Germany (Unification day), the streets were empty, more hikers on the very famous hiking trail "Rennsteig" on tour than cars on the streets - great. Next time it should be definitely a 2-day-trip to make more stops, seightseeing and taking pics. The Werra (German pronunciation: [ˈvɛʁa]), a river in central Germany, forms the right-source of the Weser. The Werra has its source near Eisfeld in southern Thuringia. After 293 km the Werra joins the river Fulda in the town of Hann. Münden, forming the Weser. The Werra Valley ("Werratal") forms a natural border between the Rhön Mountains and the Thuringian Forest. Highlights here include Eiben Forest near Dermbach, the fairytale sandstone cave at Walldorf, the deepest lake in Germany formed by land subsidence (near Bernshausen), and the "Krayenburg", the ruins of a castle (dating back to the year 786), restaurant and a tower with a wide outlook into the Werra valley near Tiefenort. The following towns or townships lie along the Werra: Hildburghausen, Meiningen, Bad Salzungen, Tiefenort, Merkers-Kieselbach, Heringen, Philippsthal, Gerstungen, Wanfried, Eschwege, Witzenhausen and Hann. The Franconian Forest (German: Frankenwald) is a mid-altitude mountain range in Northern Bavaria, Germany. It is located in the district of Upper Franconia (Oberfranken) and forms the geological connection between the Fichtelgebirge and the Thuringian Forest. It is a broad well-wooded plateau, running for about 45 kilometres (28 mi) in a northwesterly direction, descending gently on the north and eastern sides towards the Saale river, but more precipitously to the Bavarian plain in the west, and attaining its highest elevation in the Döbraberg near Schwarzenbach am Wald (794 metres). Along the centre lies the watershed between the basins of the Main and the Saale, belonging to the systems of the Rhine and Elbe respectively.- published: 26 Sep 2013
