Schiff agreed at the end of last month to be acquired by Bayer, which had offered $1.2bn (€936000) for the company, but Bayer withdrew from a potential bidding war after Reckitt Benckiser submitted a higher offer. Meanwhile in Germany, Helmut Linssen, a former finance minister in Germany's North-Rhine Westphalia state, has been elected chief financial officer (CFO) of RAG-Stiftung -- the majority owner of Germany-based specialty chemicals major Evonik, Linssen will take over on 1 December, succeeding Gunter Schlatte In the crude markets this morning futures remained under pressure following a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas forces in Gaza which eased supply concerns. Our topic in co-operation with the Handelsblatt. Many small to medium-sized businesses are based in the western German state of North Rhine Westphalia and one was awarded a prize for being the best employer in this sector in 2008: Mennekes from Kirchhundem in the Sauerland region. Walter Menneke's father Aloys invented the electric lighter after World War Two when matches were in short supply. His son took the business in a different direction, building up the company over the last 30 years into the world leader for industrial plugs. The firm offers more than 11000 different plug systems, has a sales network in 90 countries, an annual turnover of almost 100 million euros and bases in Saxony and China. Sixty year-old Walter Menneke still has big expansion plans. In August this year, he opened a second factory in Nanjing, China and he would also like a slice of the multi-billion Panama project. The Bruchhauser Stones consist of lava rocks developed 290 million year ago. The four largest of the stones carry the names Bornstein, Feldstein, Goldstein and Ravenstein and are located on the northwest slope of the Istenberg, whose 721m high summits is about 500m away. Feldstein is the only stone that can be climbed. It is not the largest stone, but it is the highest point.
