WINTER CROSSING OF MEUSE RIVER
WINTER CROSSING OF MEUSE RIVER
This year, I performed the most prestigious event of the cold water swimming season : the whole crossing of river Meuse in Huy; it's rather impressive: jumping from a 3-4m high wall in a cold water with a rapid flow, no possibility of U-turn ( no ladder on this wall), no possibility of pause (otherwise, the stream brings you out of the limits of the arrival area...). But also much fun! Temp of water: +/- 5°C; temp of air 6°C

Belgium: Namur and its Citadel
Belgium: Namur and its Citadel
Namur (Namen) is a city and municipality in Wallonia, in southern Belgium. It is both the capital of the province of Namur and (since 1986) of Wallonia. Namur stands at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers. Namur came to prominence during the early Middle Ages, when the Merovingians built a castle or citadel on the rocky spur overlooking the town at the confluence of the two rivers. The town's most prominent sight is the citadel, now demilitarised and open to the public. Namur also has a distinctive 18th century cathedral dedicated to Saint Aubain. The towns location at the head of the Ardennes made it a popular tourist center. More information: en.wikipedia.org

The Lost Evidence: Operation Market Garden (1/5)
The Lost Evidence: Operation Market Garden (1/5)
Operation Market Garden (September 1725, 1944) was an Allied military operation, fought in the Netherlands and Germany in World War II. It was the largest airborne operation of all time. The operation plan's strategic context required the seizure of bridges across the Maas (Meuse River) and two arms of the Rhine (the Waal and the Lower Rhine) as well as several smaller canals and tributaries. Crossing the Lower Rhine would allow the Allies to outflank the Siegfried Line and encircle the Ruhr, Germany's industrial heartland. It made large-scale use of airborne forces whose tactical objectives were to secure a series of bridges over the main rivers of the German-occupied Netherlands and allow a rapid advance by armoured units into Northern Germany. Initially the operation was successful and several bridges between Eindhoven and Nijmegen were captured. However the ground force's advance was delayed by the demolition of a bridge over the Wilhelmina Canal at Son, delaying the capture of the main road bridge over the Meuse until September 20. At Arnhem the British 1st Airborne Division encountered far stronger resistance than anticipated. In the ensuing battle only a small force managed to hold one end of the Arnhem road bridge and after the ground forces failed to relieve them they were overrun on the 21st. The rest of the division, trapped in a small pocket west of the bridge, had to be evacuated on the 25th. The Allies had failed to cross the Rhine in sufficient force, and ...

ROS BEIAARD dendermonde 2010
ROS BEIAARD dendermonde 2010
Een hele stad vol van vreugde om het feestelijke paard dat er van iedereen is. Het is er ons peird of ons peirt. The mighty horse "replicated" in the procession, belonged to four children who were opponents of no less a figure than Charlemagne. The horse was captured and they tried to drown it with a huge stone. The horse was hurt severely but still alive after two attemps of drowning it. Then the child Reynaut turned helplessly his back on the suffering horse, and only then it succumbed to its fate by drowning. The horrible story of a horse horsing around and finally drowned by humans for their quarrels. C' est à la fois l'histoire de quatre héros wallons fêtés en pleine Flandre The location of the legend is not only de Schelde (Scheldt) river, but also the Meuse river, near Namur and Dinant. tremendous dendermonde From a rock called Bayard near Namur, the four brothers on the horse jumped over the Meuse river to escape Charlemagne (who was born in what is now Wallonia, and may be had Walloon as his mothertongue) The horse has to be carried by 12 or 36 "pijnders", they are the local descendants of the harbour workers from times gone by. Dendermonde had a real harbour till some centuries ago, says the program brochure. A comparable but smaller horse "beyaert" is shown in the ommegang (procession) in Brussels. "Ommegang" is the older dutch (flemish) word for "procession" (or: procession seems to be a religious ommegang)

Yep, you read the title right. After some extensive modding to Meuse River map files, I was able to successfully jack a King Tiger from the Axis team and kick some serious butt with it. I did this in singleplayer, obviously. My map mods wouldn't work online. Enjoy the amusing voice commentary! FINAL SCORE: 48-1 MORE BF2 FH2 SINGLEPLAYER MATCHES TO COME!!!!
