The Cloister Hotel Sea Island Georgia
Three years in the making, the new Cloister replaces that landmark original, built in 1928. According to the company, the old hotel was never intended to be more than a "friendly little inn" to house prospective real estate investors on the island. But during its surprisingly long life the hotel hosted presidents, kings and queens and all other manner of celebrities, and even carried a Mobil five-star rating for a time. The fourth-generation in his family to operate The Cloister on Sea Island, Jones, who is chairman and chief executive officer of Sea Island Co., is said to have had a hand in virtually every detail of the multi-million dollar masterpiece, from the selection of paintings of marsh and live oaks and period tableaux scattered throughout the 100-room hotel to the choice of wood trim -- mostly heart pine and pecky cypress -- that give the place its warm, long-lived-in feel. An agreement granting Architectural Digest magazine first rights to interior photography led the company to prohibit local news photographers from capturing the inside decor during a media tour of the hotel Thursday. As the September issue of the magazine will undoubtedly show, though, everything about The Cloister on Sea Island is grand in scale, from the richly upholstered overstuffed chairs and high-backed love seats to the dinner-plate sized hydrangea blossoms nestled in decorative planters big enough to hold several small children. The custom-made chandeliers lighting the main lobby with ...

The Cloisters Medieval Museum of Art
The Cloisters: Medieval Museum of Art Designed by Charles Collens, the Cloister's museum buildings were constructed by merging various medieval styles. The final building was not based on any one particular style but employed elements from five French abbeys that were reassembled into one structure. The Cloisters was opened to the public in 1938 on Manhattan Island in New York City. The building is used by the Metropolitan Museum of Art to house its medieval artwork collection. The museum and park were donated by John D. Rockefeller Jr. who also donated much of his personal medieval art collection to the Cloisters. The museum is comprised of between 3000 - 5000 medieval works of art from Europe dating from the 9th to the 16th centuries. The Cloisters contains approximately 20 rooms, that include: Gothic halls, 3 chapels, a chapter house, cloister gardens, and various galleries. In addition to its beautiful art collection, the Cloisters also contains many other interesting pieces such as earthenware jugs and vases, furniture, jewellery, books of hours, escutcheons, reliquaries, and tapestries. Pieces of Note The Unicorn in Captivity - This famous late 15th century tapestry made of wool warp, silk, silver, and gilt wefts from the French south lowlands depicts a unicorn in captivity. This piece belongs to a late Gothic series of tapestries, known as 'The Hunt of the Unicorn'. This tapestry is the seventh and final panel in the series. Tabernacle Panel - These colourful ...

The Cloisters Museum of Medieval Art
This uptown branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is worth the 45-minute subway ride from midtown (plus a pleasant 10-minute walk through Fort Tryon Park.) Perched on the tip of Manhattan, on four acres overlooking the Hudson River, the castle-like Museum is comprised of five Medieval cloisters imported from France and filled with art and artifacts. It is the largest single collection of medieval art and artifacts in the United States. The Cloisters, as described by Germain Bazin, former director of the Musée du Louvre in Paris, "the crowning achievement of American museology," is devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe. The Museum building itself incorporates portions of original medieval chapels, monastic cloisters, a chapter house, and other architectural elements dating from the 12th through 15th centuries. Perhaps the most celebrated attractions are The Unicorn Tapestries, a group of seven wall hangings that vividly portray the mythological hunt and capture of a unicorn. Other gallery objects include religious sculptures, water vessels shaped like animals, illuminated manuscripts, stained glass and ivories. Approximately five thousand works of art from medieval Europe, dating from about AD 800 with particular emphasis on the twelfth through fifteenth centuries, are exhibited in this unique museum. Many visitors come for the building itself: one room recreates a 12th-century chapel, The Fuentiduena Chapel, and another, the Chapter House (from Notre ...

Sopor Aeternus - Encoded Cloister
[Click on more info for lyrics] La Chambre D'Echo Where Dead Birds Sing, 2004 Anna-Varney Cantodea Track #1 (the mirror ... is the theatre ... where the autopsy ... begins) please, be so kind to leave this place, none of your kin(d) is wanted here; a dreadful tremor shakes these walls ... your presence vibrates violently. over many years we've built the utmost fragile atmosphere, we cant allow the uninvited visitor(s) to interfere. the balance here's most delicate, and our salvation, if you wish, yes, our existence as a whole is depending on this sacred place. a silence, powerful and true, a minimum of what we seek, pervading everything and all ... it can be hered, can be percevied. this silence, you must understand, a quiet state of rest and calm, is like a temple in itself, keeps the secluded soul(s) from harm. its gentle light is almost dark, a peaceful semble of the tomb, a certain chill's predominant... as most things here have ceased to move. our lord is sleeping in his chambers, the centre of our sancutuary, he's not receiving anyone... he has not seen a soul in years. so long ago our lord's retired from the affaires your world to show, we've never heared your name before... our lord's not well, you have to go. please, be so kind to leave this here; a dreadful termor shakes these walls... your presence vibrates violently. Please ... - leave!

The Bachkovo cloister
The monastery was founded by Prince Gregorios Pakourianos or Grigol Bakurianis-dze, prominent Georgian statesman, military commander in Byzantine service, in 1083. He set up a seminary for Georgian youth at the monastery. The curriculum in the first place included Christian religion, as well as mathematics, history, music. A book of the X century, the so-called "Shatberdi Collection" (copied in Shatberdi Monastery, Klarjeti) must have been a student handbook, including the literature an educated man had to know at that time - theology, natural science, philosophy, world history and history of Georgia ("The Convert of Kartli") Since the 13th century, Georgians lost their domination over the monastery, but nevertheless, Georgian traditions were preserved until the beginning of 14th century. However, there's also another version about Pakourianos's origin. Anna Comnena, an 11 c. AD historian, knew Pakourianos personally and stated in Alexiada that he was Armenian by descent but Orthodox by faith. During the time of the Second Bulgarian Empire, Bachkovo Monastery was patronized by Tsar Ivan Alexander, which is evidenced by an image of him on the archs of the ossuary's narthex. Since the 11th century, a school was housed in the monastery. It is believed that the founder of Tarnovo Literary School and last patriarch of the mediaeval Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Euthymius, was exiled by the Turks and died in the monastery in the early 15th century. Although the monastery ...

Bayonne Cathedral, France . Cloister of Cathedrale Saint-Marie de Bayonne.
www.armchairtraveler.tv Bayonne, France is a Basque city in Southwest France. It is where chocolate was first introduced to Europe and many Chocolate Chaud places still exist in Bayonne, France. Unfortunately, it always rains when I visit Bayonne, France. This Bayonne, France video features the Cloister of the Cathedrale de Saint-Maire de Bayonne. From wikipedia Bayonne Cathedral (Cathédrale Sainte-Marie de Bayonne) is a Roman Catholic Gothic cathedral in the town of Bayonne, France. It is the seat of the former Bishops of Bayonne, now the Bishops of Bayonne, Lescar and Oloron. The site was previously occupied by a Romanesque cathedral that was destroyed by two fires in 1258 and 1310. Construction of the present cathedral began in the 13th century and was completed at the beginning of the 17th, except for the two spires which were not finished until the 19th century. The structure has been much restored and refurbished, notably by Émile Boeswildwald, architect to the French government in the 19th century, and a pupil of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. The cathedral stands on the Pilgrimage Way of Santiago de Compostela.

Final Fantasy X Bevelle Temple Cloister of Trials
Well, time for some more fun with the Cloister of Trials, this time it's in the Bevelle Temple. This is a pretty annoying Cloister, probably the most annoying. Basically you're on a moving platform of sorts and you make brief stops to pick up the needed Sphere's. Unlike the other Cloisters, you actually need the Destruction Sphere to move forward to the Chamber of the Fayth. And even though you use the Destruction Sphere, you may still miss the treasure on the last screen, but when following this video, you'll see the solution. I'll let the video instruct the rest. Enjoy!

AllyConan - FFX: Djose Temple Cloister of Trails
This is Ally's strategy on how to get through the Cloister of Trials at Djose Temple. When you enter the room, put the two spheres [left and right of you] in the door in front of you. this will open the door. Now, go to the main room [the one with the wierd symbol on the floor] and put two spheres [doesnt matter what kind] in the two holes to the far right [next to the glyp that you cant reach]. Now make sure that there is a sphere [any kind] in the pillar and push it under the pillar that just appeared. [step on the flashing tile to make the pillar go back to its original state] Take the new Djose sphere [the green glowing one] and stick it in the hole to the right of the door. Now, take the remaining spheres [there should be two] and stick them in the pillar [across from each other]. Push the pillar into the lighting and jump across. Push the NEW pillar in and jump back across. Now take the Djose sphere used to open the door and put it to the left of the door. Now step on the flashing tile to make the pillar come back. Take the two spheres from that [you will have to do it one at a time] and stick them in the two slots that were in the first room [the one that you first entered]. To get the special chest: Instead of going up the elevator, go touch the glyph that is to the left of the flashing tile. [it will be flashing slightly] Take the sphere and go up the elevator. Now go to the circle-like room and puch in all 5 pillars. Now put the sphere in the new pillar and open ...
