Location France Host Broadcaster RTF Venue Palais des Festivals Host(s) Jacqueline Joubert Participants 16 Voting method Each country had 10 jury members who each awarded 1 point to their favorite song Director Marcelle Cravanne Interval Act Tessa Beaumont & Max Bozzoni The Eurovision Song Contest 1961 returned to the beautiful city of Cannes for the second time in it's short life. The number of participants is rising, and the magnitude of the competition increases. We're moving to Saturday Just like in 1959, the Palais des Festivals was the venue of this year's contest. The presenter of the show was Jacqueline Joubert, who already did this task in 1959. The stage used for the show was much bigger than in previous years, and it was magnificently decorated with flowers. The number of participants of this year's song contest rose to 16 as Spain, Yugoslavia and Finland entered the contest for the first time. For the first time, the contest took place on a Saturday night which would be its usual time-frame for the decades to come. About the winner Luxembourg had its first of 5 victories in 1961 with the song Nous Les Amoureux performed by Jean-Claude Pascal. Critics called the song a lullaby, but Jean-Claude Pascal was awarded 31 points in total, with the UK entry by The Allisons comfortably behind with 24 points. Facts & figures * Germany's entry Einmal Sehen Wir Uns Wieder was performed by Lale Andersen who shot to fame two decades earlier with her rendition of Lili Marleen ...

I thought it would be interesting to compare Lanza's performances of this aria throughout his career. Which do you prefer? 1. 1950 LIVE performance for radio broadcast 2. 1950 recording for the film "The Great Caruso" (1951) 3. 1951 recording for his weekly Coca Cola radio show 4. 1958 recording for the film "For the first time (1958) I had to trim it to stay under 10 minutes, sorry. 1959 First EVER Barbie Commercial High Quaility HQ!
This is the first Barbie commercial that first aired during Mickey Mouse Club! This is higher quaility then our old upload we did last year, enjoy. :) Ruth Handler watched her daughter Barbara at play with paper dolls, and noticed that she often enjoyed giving them adult roles. At the time, most children's toy dolls were representations of infants. Realizing that there could be a gap in the market, Handler suggested the idea of an adult-bodied doll to her husband Elliot, a co-founder of the Mattel toy company. He was unenthusiastic about the idea, as were Mattel's directors. During a trip to Europe in 1956 with her children Barbara and Kenneth, Ruth Handler came across a German toy doll called Bild Lilli. The adult-figured Lilli doll was like what Handler had in mind, so she purchased three of them. She gave one to her daughter and took the others back to Mattel. The Lilli doll was based on a popular character appearing in a comic strip drawn by Reinhard Beuthin for the newspaper Die Bild-Zeitung. Upon her return to the United States, Handler reworked the design of the doll (with help from engineer Jack Ryan) and the doll was given a name, Barbie, after Handler's daughter Barbara. The doll made its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York on March 9, 1959. This date is also used as Barbie's official birthday. Mattel acquired the rights to the Bild Lilli doll in 1964 and production of Lilli was stopped. The first Barbie doll wore a black and white zebra ...

Invitation - Jazz piano (Trio)
for the midifil and backing track just visit: tinyurl.com You can also visit my other new channel: www.youtube.com There I just start to make some tutorials for Jazz musicians beginners, and more :-) You have heard my version of "INVITATION" composed by: Bronisław Kaper (February 5, 1902 April 26, 1983) He was a Polish film composer who scored films and musical theater in Germany, France, and the USA. The American immigration authorities misspelled his name as Bronislau Kaper. He was also variously credited as Bronsilaw Kaper, Bronislaw Kapper, Benjamin Kapper, and Edward Kane. Kaper is now perhaps best remembered as the composer of the jazz standards "Invitation" (with words by Paul Francis Webster) and "Green Dolphin Street" the latter for the 1947 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film of the same name. He also scored the MGM film musical Lili (1953) and the TV series The FBI (1965-1974). More about the composer:Bronisław Kaper began playing the piano at the age of six, and soon demonstrated considerable talent on this instrument. He studied composition and piano at the Warsaw Conservatory, and law at Warsaw University, in deference to his father's wishes. Soon after completing his studies, Kaper went to Berlin - then a city with many theaters and cabarets, where many artists from Eastern Europe - mainly Russia, Poland and Hungary were trying their luck. In Berlin, in the late 1920s, Kaper met another young composer, the Austrian Walter Jurmann. The two decided to work as a team ...

"Premakes" The Avengers (1952)
What if... the Avengers movie was created years before the actual comic book? Lost in the annals of time and space, comes this magnificent motion picture of epic proportions. Taking a page from such horror classics as "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman" and "House of Frankenstein," Timely Atlas Studios (the precursor to Marvel Studios), created the first superhero movie team-up. "The Avengers" featured an awesome array of characters such as Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man in a larger-than-life battle against evil aliens from the planet Skrull. Face front true believers, this one is for the funny books! Editor's note: I have always wanted to work with Marvel characters... in any capacity. Maybe I will someday. For now though, enjoy my little tribute to works of Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and the heroes of the Marvel Universe. Oh, here's a fun thing to do... try and count all the characters and locations that are hidden within this trailer. Did anyone spot the Stan Lee cameo yet? I have a listing of all the Easter eggs in my next video. Excelsior! Here's the recipe for this trailer: Man and the Moon, Flash Gordon (Deadline at Noon), The Phantom Planet, Rocketship XM, Star Trek (The Cage), Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, The Flying Saucer, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, The 27th Day, Superboy, The Wasp Woman, Outer Limits (Demon with the Glass Hand, The Invisibles, Chameleon, Zzzzzz), Twilight Zone (The Monsters are Due on Maple Street), Anastasia, Underworld USA ...

Sister Sledge - We Are Family
Four sisters: Kim Sledge (born 21 August 1957), Debbie Sledge (born 9 July 1954), Joni Sledge (born 13 September 1956), and Kathy Sledge (born 6 January 1959). Best known for their work with Chic in the late '70s, Sister Sledge reached the height of their popularity during the disco era but had been recording since the early '70s and were still active in the late '90s. The group was formed in Philadelphia in 1971, when the sisters' ages ranged from 12 to 16, and they recorded their first single, "Time Will Tell," for the Philly-based Money Back label. (For the first few years, the group called itself Sisters Sledge.) In 1972, Sister Sledge signed with Atco and recorded its second single, "Weatherman," which was followed by the Jackson 5-like "Mama Never Told Me" in 1973. It wasn't until 1979, when Chic leaders Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards produced We Are Family, that Sister Sledge really exploded commercially. "He's the Greatest Dancer" and We Are Family's title song both soared to number one on the R&B; charts.

The Shirelles - Will You Love Me Tomorrow
The Shirelles were the first major female vocal group of the rock era, defining the so-called girl group sound with their soft, sweet harmonies and yearning innocence. Their music was a blend of pop/rock and R&B; (especially doo wop and smooth uptown soul) that appealed to listeners across the board, before Motown ever became a crossover phenomenon with white audiences. Even if the Shirelles were not technically the first of their kind, their success was unprecedented, paving the way for legions of imitators; their inviting musical blueprint had an enduring influence not just on their immediate followers, but on future generations of female pop singers, who often updated the style with a more modern sensibility. What was more, they provided some of the earliest hits for important Brill Building songwriters like Gerry Goffin & Carole King, Burt Bacharach & Hal David, and Van McCoy. The Shirelles were originally formed in 1958 in Passaic, NJ, by four high school friends: Doris Coley (later Doris Kenner-Jackson), Addie "Micki" Harris, Shirley Owens (later Shirley Alston), and Beverly Lee. Christening themselves the Poquellos, the girls wrote a song called "I Met Him on a Sunday" and entered their school talent show with it. A school friend had them audition for her mother, Florence Greenberg, who ran a small record label; she was impressed enough to become the group's manager, and changed their name to the Shirelles by combining frequent lead singer Owens' first name with doo ...

Sid Caesar - The First Piano Recital / Edvard Grieg "Piano Concerto in A-Minor No. 1"
[From "Kovacs Corner" on YouTube.com] - In another display of his great pantomine skills, Sid Caesar plays a budding concert pianist performing his first solo recital of Edvard Grieg's "Piano Concerto in A-Minor No. 1". This clip was culled from the NBC Special "Some of Manie's Friends". In 1959, NBC broadcast a 90-minute prime-time posthumous tribute to a man few outside of entertainment circles had ever heard of, Manie Sacks. Originally a Columbia Records executive who later work for RCA and NBC-TV, he died of leukemia in 1958 at the age of fifty six. Mounting a show like this was unbelievable for a network to do even in 1959. Today it would be unthinkable. What made it possible was the star power behind the special, Manie himself. With sage advice and a penchant for matching material with artist, Manie endeared himself to a slew of popular music and other entertainment heavyweights who he had mentored. Out of respect for their endearing relationship for him after his death, many lent their star power to the occasion and raised $200000 for leukemia research. Perry Como, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher, Kay Starr, Bob Hope, Sid Caesar, Danny Thomas, Rosemary Clooney, Jane Wyman and Harry James all showed up in a big way for Manie, and the money Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co. paid for its ads in the show was donated to the cause as well. You can read more concerning Manie Sacks and this NBC production at www.time.com .

Iceland, Eyjafjallajökull - May 1st and 2nd, 2010
So I saw all of these pictures of that volcano in Iceland nobody can pronounce the name of, so I figured I should go and do something that is not news footage but something more cinematic. But the flights to get over took forever as expected (somewhat). 4 days after leaving I finally made it, but the weather was terrible for another 4. Just before leaving it got pretty good for about a day and a half and this is what I managed to get.
Wish I had more time. I missed all the cool Lightning and the Lava of the first eruption. But I figure this will just be a trial run for another day.
I am of course accepting sponsors to send me back there for more please...!! haha

Nokta . (Dot .) is an abstract short film project which is an improvisation of organic pieces and themes like power, control and luck. Using low-budget equipment and with the combination of actual camera shooting, 2d and 3d animation techniques, the film alters the reality and physics of the real world with the help of the liquid and dynamic simulations’ impact.
Even though the film is not produced according to the base of Amos Funkenstein’s text on harmony, but the text is a convenient statement for the stylistic and representational behaviour of the film.
'I see some correspondence between the foundation of universal harmony on elliptical orbit and the predilection for the elliptic forms in Baroque architecture. In both cases harmony is still defined as unity within multiplicity, but it ceased to be static, namely, harmony expressed in one ideal geometrical form, and became so to speak dynamic. What was previously regarded as the deviation from the ideal form, was comprehended for the first time as an integral part of the form, or form of forms, which are capable of endless transitions one into another. A Year in New York
As a filmmaker living in New York for the first time, I'd grab my Canon 7D and shoot footage of what was going on around me, to try and take in all that was happening. To try and capture the sense of community I felt in a place so large and diverse.
The HDSLR was a great tool for this. It allowed me get in among people and crowds but at the same time not draw attention to myself.
It seemed like a never ending project and you could stay filming life in New York for a long time. But eventually I put my camera down and started to edit. Here's the end result, it's a bit rough and tumble but that's life in the Big Apple I guess.
Turn up the volume or put your in earphones for the beautiful song 'We Don't Eat' by Irishman James Vincent McMorrow.
For those who asked these are the lens I used:
Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

Barry Manilow - (There's No Place Like) Home For The Holidays (2002)
"(There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays" is a popular song, commonly associated with the Christmas season although the lyrics are more applicable to the Thanksgiving holidays. The music was written by Robert Allen, the lyrics by Al Stillman. The song was published in 1954. The best-known recordings were made by Perry Como, who recorded the song twice. The first recording, done on November 16, 1954, was released as a single for Christmas, 1954, by RCA (catalog number 20-5950-B on 78rpm and 47-5950-B on 45rpm). Como's second recording of the song, in stereo and with a different musical arrangement, was made on July 15, 1959. It was released as a 33rpm single (RCA catalog # VP-2066)

An answer song titled "I Hear You Knocking," written by Dave Bartholomew and Pearl King, having a similar melody but slower tempo, was published in 1955 and first recorded by Smiley Lewis, reaching #2 on the Billboard R&B; singles chart. It became a more mainstream #2 hit when sung by Gale Storm that same year.[5] The most well-known rendition of the song is the rhythm and blues/rock and roll recording by Little Richard in September 1957, which reached #2 on the US R&B; charts and #8 on the US pop charts. So What - Miles Davis (1959)
"So What" was the first track on the studio album "Kind Of Blue" by American jazz musician Miles Davis, released August 17, 1959 on Columbia Records. The recording sessions for the album took place at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York City on March 2 and April 22, 1959. The sessions featured Davis' ensemble sextet, which included pianists Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly, drummer Jimmy Cobb, bassist Paul Chambers, and saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian 'Cannonball' Adderley. After the inclusion of Bill Evans into his sextet, Davis followed up on the modal experimentations of "Milestones" (1958) and "1958 Miles" (1958) by basing the album entirely on modality, in contrast to his earlier work with the hard bop style of jazz. Though precise figures have been disputed, "Kind Of Blue" has been cited by many music writers not only as Davis' best-selling album, but as the best-selling jazz record of all time. On October 7, 2008, it was certified quadruple platinum in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It has been regarded by many critics as the greatest jazz album of all time and Davis' masterpiece, and it has been ranked at or near the top of several 'best album' lists in disparate genres. The album's influence on music, including jazz, rock and classical music, has led music writers to acknowledge it as one of the most influential albums of all time. In 2002, it was one of fifty recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be ...
