We are privileged to bring you the news that a Full Ska Orchestra Studio Album is in the works, and to let you hear a track from it in full. Straight from band leader Lee Thompson himself... Here is The Ska Orchestra's studio mix of Eastern Standard Time. A 60's ska classic, from the time zone of Jamaica. A Don Drummond bouncy instrumental antheme. Here recorded at The Iron Works Brighton in 2011 by Ska's latest dancehall agents. 00 11's. Lee & Bedders along with Terry Edwards, Louis Vause, Kev, Jack, Sheamus, and The Steve's. 14 tracks have been recorded in two sessions. It's now October 2011 and the album has reached Mixing stages. In our lives we are faced with decisions that we have to make everyday. And most of the time the way we make up a decision is we weigh the positives, and the negatives and make our decision based on that fact. But sometimes, some of the decisions that we have to make in our lives are not that simple, especially if the word LOVE has anything to do with it. This particular story is about making such decisions, when we decide to do something just because our hearts feel right, even though your logic and reasons tell you otherwise.
Christian & Melvina were both born in Surabaya. But when Christian got his job, he moved to Ternate. If you don't know Ternate, it is an island in the Maluku Islands (Moluccas) of eastern Indonesia. Although separated by miles apart, nothing can stop them from falling in love with each other. And though they know the challenges of having a long distance relationship, still kept their love for each other strong.
Another big decision came at the time when Christian proposed to Melvina. Christian asked Melvina to move with him to Ternate after the wedding. It was definitely a big decision for Melvina, she was asked to move out of her comfort zone to be with the one she loves deeply. After a careful thought and deliberation with her mom, Melvina finally followed her heart and said yes to moving with Christian to Ternate, leaving her friends and families in Surabaya to start their new family together in the Eastern part of Indonesia.
One thing I've always believe, is that when everything else seemed like a blur and you're not sure which decision to take, always follow your heart. Once again congratulation to both of you. Here's to making a heart decision!

Dear readers, it is while I have been on vacation in a county located thousands of kilometres from my second home country, Holland where I live as exile, that I read this horrendous account of the atrocities perpetrated on fellow Ethiopians. It was while thumbing through the pages of the Ethiomedia website that I stumbled on this report that carries gory account of gruesome human rights violations taking place in Ethiopia. Words cannot convey what I felt while reading this account of the barbaric atrocities and I could not sleep that night. After having read the report, the least which I could do was to respond to one of the pleas (i.e. making the world community know about this atrocity) of the few brave Ethiopians who, at the peril of their life and in defiance of a vindictive ethnicist regime, compiled and wrote this report. So the next morning, I decided to translate it from the original Amharic language in which this report has been written into English. I have translated this Amharic document with the hope of reaching many people, dotted across every nook and corner of the world, who are concerned with human rights. Once the big hurdle of translating the original Amharic document into English has been overcome, translating the English document into other European or even Asian languages would be a minuscule task owing to the available technology at hand. And I will shortly embark on the task of translating the English document into different European languages (French, Dutch, German, Spanish, etc) with the help of some editorial help from Ethiopian and non-Ethiopian foreign friends dotted around the world.
For four consecutive days I stayed hooked on a computer (located in an internet café) translating this Amharic document into English on some days working for as long as 11 hours a day. As I could not afford the luxury of working on my own computer (as I have not taken laptop with me on vacation), I was not able to go through this document thoroughly to make detailed review of minor translation errors. But I believe that my translation would do justice to the original Amharic document in lucidly bringing out to readers what the few brave Ethiopians have compiled with extraordinary dedication, dexterity, sense of patriotism and above all, sense of humanity. Translating some of the offensive insults (directed at defendants by the Tigrean ethno-nationalists) into English was not an easy task as the nuances in Amharic cannot be adequately captured in the English language. So I had to search words and expressions in English which approximate to the Amharic nuances expressed in the original Amharic document. I have translated almost all of the documents except some of the introductory pages that I deemed are redundant. All the texts put between parenthesis signs are added by me by way of explaining the matter at hand. But I have translated the document pertaining to the defendants and the concluding part in its entirety. Let me say that I take off my hat for those brave Ethiopians who compiled and wrote this report. I salute these brave Ethiopians for the altruistic effort in immortalizing the pain of the victims of these atrocities so that all human beings dotted around the world may do something to alleviate the pain of these forgotten Ethiopians that languish in the dungeons of the incumbent ethnocentric regime that has been ensconced in power in since May 1991. I also salute the exemplary Ethiopian from Tigrai (Mr. Ermias) who has been rendered physically invalid for putting his humanity before his Tigrean ethnicity.

Shocking as the gruesome manner in which these Ethiopian prisoners were physically and psychologically tortured, any one who is aware of the hatred which some of these Tigrean ethnonationalists (the authors & perpetrators of the atrocities documented in this translated report) were brought up, hearing narratives of alleged victimisation of their ancestors by Amharas, cannot fail to fathom or understand their potential capacity and readiness to perpetrate such gruesome atrocities on Amharas and members of other ethnic groups (Oromos, Gurages, Somalis, etc). In addition to this, the ethnic ideology of hate they have embraced during the last 36 years of TPLF’s emergence and its pervasive influence or hold on the psyche of its followers has made them to consider any one outside their ethnic group as a sub-human creature. Even a member of their own group, who does not subscribe to their ethnic ideology of hate, is considered as a sub-human creature (what TPLF has done to Mr. Ermias corroborates this fact).

This is my first video I've made that I am ready to show as part of my portfolio. Earlier this year, I finally began editing videos once I acquired Final Cut Pro X. I had secured an internship with ChildFund International in Indonesia for the summer, and while I was buying vitamins, the man at the counter I talked to asked me what I do, and I mentioned I was a graduate student studying international development and that I was headed to Indonesia for work. He told me he was sponsoring a child there through ChildFund, and I saw this as a chance to film his story and his sponsored child's story. I pitched the idea to ChildFund, and I was given the go signal to do this.
I've since withdrawn from grad school because let's face it: I'm an artist, and though I may not have the best skills yet, I am trying. My goal as a social entrepreneur is to go around the world documenting through video and photography different causes and projects, from building schools in Uganda to sustainable eco tourism in Thailand, saving Preah Vihear temple from being destroyed by conflict in Cambodia and Thailand, and telling the story of East Timor's refugees in Indonesia.
I wasn't meant to be a number cruncher or desk jockey. I'm meant to be a vagabond. I'm like the gunslinger of the old west, but I'm armed with a camera instead. I live by my ideals and die by them like the Ronin of feudal times in Japan. When I look at all the student loan debt I have, how I live from contract-to-contract and project-to-project, not knowing where I will be, if I can eat or have shelter, I do worry.
When I look at all that I don't know and don't have, remember all the criticism, and all the struggles I experience daily, I ask myself: is it worth it?
When I see what I've done and the smiling faces of children, widows regaining control of their lives after losing everything in natural disasters, the attention drawn to causes big and small from large NGOs to individual village leaders with an idea that is worth hearing whom I've helped, I know the answer to that question: yes. Yes, it's all worth it. And I'm going to keep doing this until the day I die.
Let the student loan vultures wait. They won't lose sleep or worry about eating, and I'm not out to flip burgers back in America because it earns more than NGO work or social entrepreneurship in order to pay them back. There is only now, and the world can not wait. So I'm going to keep traveling and rocking the planet.
