Americas East Coast Mega Tsunami Canary Islands explained
en.wikipedia.org Americas East Coast Megatsunami Canary Islands Geologists S. Day and S. Ward consider that a megatsunami could be generated during a future eruption involving the Cumbre Vieja on the volcanic ocean island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands.[12][13] In 1949, the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted at its Duraznero, Hoyo Negro and San Juan vents. During this eruption, an earthquake with an epicentre near the village of Jedy occurred. The following day Rubio Bonelli, a local geologist, visited the summit area and discovered that a fissure about 2.5 km long had opened on the eastern side of the summit. As a result, the western half of the Cumbre Vieja (which is the volcanically active arm of a triple-armed rift) had slipped about 2 m downwards and 1 m westwards towards the Atlantic Ocean[citation needed]. The Cumbre Vieja volcano is currently in a dormant stage, but will almost certainly erupt again in the future. Day and Ward hypothesize[12][13] that if such an eruption causes the western flank to fail, a megatsunami will be generated. La Palma is currently the most volcanically active island in the Canary Islands Archipelago. It is likely that several eruptions would be required before failure would occur on Cumbre Vieja.[12][13] However, the western half of the volcano has an approximate volume of 500 km3 (5 x 1011 m3) and an estimated mass of 1.5 x 1015 kg. If it were to catastrophically slide into the ocean, it could generate a wave with an initial height of ...

Whistled language of the island of La Gomera (Canary Islands), the Silbo Gomero
UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2009 URL: www.unesco.org Description: The whistled language of La Gomera Island in the Canaries, the Silbo Gomero, replicates the islanders habitual language (Castilian Spanish) with whistling. Handed down over centuries from master to pupil, it is the only whistled language in the world that is fully developed and practised by a large community (more than 22000 inhabitants). The whistled language replaces each vowel or consonant with a whistling sound: two distinct whistles replace the five Spanish vowels, and there are four whistles for consonants. The whistles can be distinguished according to pitch and whether they are interrupted or continuous. With practice, whistlers can convey any message. Some local variations even point to their origin. Taught in schools since 1999, the Silbo Gomero is understood by almost all islanders and practised by the vast majority, particularly the elderly and the young. It is also used during festivities and ceremonies, including religious occasions. To prevent it from disappearing like the other whistled languages of the Canary Islands, it is important to do more for its transmission and promote the Silbo Gomero as intangible cultural heritage cherished by the inhabitants of La Gomera and the Canary Islands as a whole. Carnaval! Which means a long weekend. My first trip during my semester long trip was to Gran Canaria! The big island of the seven island chain on the west tip of Africa. I would like to say that I've been to Africa, but sadly it is part of Spain. But this is the traveling and first day there! Hope you enjoy :) Love, love, love -Sammy Jo

Lanzarote Canary Islands
Read the blog: www.eurodestination.com Photos at: www.flickr.com Like many other people, Lanzarote was for me an island that all my friends and relatives had visited on holiday but was that one island in the Canaries that had somehow eluded me. It does after all get over 5.5 million visitors per year, so it was just a matter of time before I finally arrived on this unique volcanic rock just across the water from Morocco and the Western Sahara. It was further than I expected, at 3 hours and 45 minutes flying it's further than Moscow, but closer by an hour from Cyprus. You get a feeling of what Lanzarote is all about when you fly in on a clear day. It rises from the western Atlantic like a big black scar, the peaks, which are up 2200 feet (620 metres) high are shrouded in low cloud, but the coastal areas are bathed in glorious sunshine. We arrived at the NH Hesperia Lanzarote Hotel just as it was getting dark to show a magnificent sunset over the south west headland of the Island. The hotel is in the Puerto Calero area, an affluent area where you'll see some rather expensive boats in the harbour, (the largest of which apparently owned by the local landlord). It's a great place to walk over to neighbouring El Barquito for an evening and not at all far to walk along the coast to reach the white beaches of Puerto del Carman. You will however need to hire a car in Lanzarote. It's easy to get the impression before your arrival that Lanzarote is a place to bake like a lizard in ...

Fires out of control on the Canary Islands
More than 4700 people have been evacuated from their homes on Spain's Canary Islands because of out of control forest fires due to a heat wave and strong winds. The worst hit-areas are Tenerife, and la Gomera both massively popular tourist destinations that hundreds of thousands British people visit every year. The fires have so far destroyed 200 hectares of land in Tenerife, and cut road links and power lines on the island. La Gomera has lost 470 hectares of land and, a world famous nature reserve of 'incalculable ecological value' The people seen here were part of a massive evacuation plan from the islands. Medical staff and ambulances were in attendance to deal with injuries etc. Everyone was quiet and subdued as they disembarked. No doubt pleased that their ordeal was over. Apart from the Canary Islands the northern province of Galicia, has also been affected by fires in the past few days. This follows the fires in Valencia, just last month, when thousands of people were evacuated, and tragically, the death of four French people, in the border area between Catalonia and France. This latest fire will no doubt hit the struggling economy hard. As the tourism sector has been a major engine of growth for the Spanish economy. I am Ann Salter thanks for watching. Spain - Canary Islands - Lanzarote - Teguise
The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago. The archipelago consists of seven major islands, one minor island, and several small islets. They are of volcanic origin and can be found in the North Atlantic Ocean. These islands are located just off the coast of the north-western portion of the African continent/mainland, nearest the political divide of Morocco and Western Sahara. They form the autonomous community of the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands were formed by the Canary hotspot. The status of capital city is shared by the two cities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Mountain
Follow on:

This was filmed between 4th and 11th April 2011. I had the pleasure of visiting El Teide.
Spain´s highest mountain @(3718m) is one of the best places in the world to photograph the stars and is also the location of Teide Observatories, considered to be one of the world´s best observatories.
The goal was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide. I have to say this was one of the most exhausting trips I have done. There was a lot of hiking at high altitudes and probably less than 10 hours of sleep in total for the whole week. Having been here 10-11 times before I had a long list of must-see locations I wanted to capture for this movie, but I am still not 100% used to carrying around so much gear required for time-lapse movies.
A large sandstorm hit the Sahara Desert on the 9th April (http://bit.ly/g3tsDW) and at approx 3am in the night the sandstorm hit me, making it nearly impossible to see the sky with my own eyes.
Interestingly enough my camera was set for a 5 hour sequence of the milky way during this time and I was sure my whole scene was ruined. To my surprise, my camera had managed to capture the sandstorm which was backlit by Grand Canary Island making it look like golden clouds. The Milky Way was shining through the clouds, making the stars sparkle in an interesting way. So if you ever wondered how the Milky Way would look through a Sahara sandstorm, look at 00:32.

Imagine the world's largest volcanic erosion crater. Then imagine an island with an incredible area to height ratio: low area of 708 square km and the 12 km wide "caldera de taburiente" with it's 2445 m high roque de los muchachos peak... or the near 2000 m high Deseada volcanic twin peaks on the ruta de los Volcanes... Combine that with beautiful starry skies - and you have La Palma (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Palma).
My new TimeLapse project "The Island" is dedicated to this beautiful and lovely Island of the Canaries... Canary Islands Volcano Update
It appears that the current volcanic activity on the Canary Islands is not the on the island which could generate a mega tsunami. We do need to remain vigilant as there are so many earthquakes in that region right now. Keep researching, remain aware and most importantly, resonate balance and harmony for the planet. www.dailymail.co.uk wet.kuleuven.be FAIR USE NOTICE: These pages/video may contain copyrighted (© ) material the use of which has not always been specifically authorized by the copyright owner. Tsunami Alert - Canary Island Earthquake 6/27/12
6/29/12 Research Update: A YT friend has brought a more accurate web page run by the Spanish National Geographic Institute. The Tremors don't occur in a grid fashion as is indicated on this web page graphic. After further research, I have learned that the quakes coordinates, when pin pointed to 4 decimal points (more accurate) they occur totally randomly not in a grid as is depicted here. www.ign.es (Enter the IGN website from spain (Instituto Geográfico Nacional), choose "Vigilancia volcánica" in the side menu, and then "Catálogo y boletines sísmicos", choose the date and note that every coordenate has 4 decimal figures.) That said, one must be aware that there is a huge number of tremors in this area in the last 2 years and it is picking up again presently. Keep your antennas up. I will upload a new video of this new info source. Peace. quakes.globalincidentmap.com www.dailymail.co.uk Last year www.ibtimes.com www.youtube.com
