Fiddler's Dram - Day trip to Bangor 1980
FFiddler's Dram - Day trip to Bangor 1980 Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around Do you recall the thrill of it all as we walked along the sea grand Then on the sand we heard a brass band that played the Diddlely-Bump-Terrara Elsie and me had one cup of tea then we took a Paddler boat out Splashing away as we sat on the bay and the wheels went 'round Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around Wasn't it nice, eating chocolate ice as we strolled around the fun-fair Then we ate eels in big ferris wheels as we sailed around the ground but then We had to be quick 'cause Elsie felt sick and we had to find somewhere to take her I said to her lad, what made her feel bad was the wheel going 'round Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around Elsie and me, we finished our tea and said goodbye to the seaside Got on the bus ...

Maine News Anchors Cindy Michaels And Tony Consiglio Resign Live On Air
During their 6 pm newscast last night, Bangor-based TV news anchors Cindy Michaels and Tony Consiglio resigned on air, citing, as the Bangor Daily News has described it, "a longstanding battle with upper management over journalistic practices at their Bangor TV stations." While WVII/WFVX vice president and general manager Mike Palmer called the situation "unfortunate, but not unexpected," the two had not told anyone about their plans to resign before the night's newscast. Consiglio shared that "I just wanted to know that I was doing the best job I could and was being honest and ethical as a journalist, and I thought there were times when I wasn't able to do that." Michaels explained that the two had "figured if we had tendered our resignations off the air, we would not have been allowed to say goodbye to the community on the air and that was really important for us to do that." She adds that there "was a constant disrespecting and belittling of staff and we both felt there was a lack of knowledge from ownership and upper management in running a newsroom to the extent that I was not allowed to structure and direct them professionally. I couldn't do everything I wanted to as a news director. There was a regular undoing of decisions." Palmer maintains that upper management is not involved in the daily production of the news. Big Haul in Downtown Bangor, ME
I was walking down the street in Downtown Bangor and found the police were blocking off the intersection before I walked across the road. I wondered what was happening. Seconds later, I looked up Hammond St and discovered this truck with a massive load coming down the hill and proceeded to go up the State Street hill. Someone told me it was a turbine for a windmill. It could have been a hydroelectric turbine, but I don't know. Anyway, enjoy. :) Recorded May 14, 2009.

Ultra High Speed Broadband - Bangor University
Could you use a broadband service that is two thousand times faster, but costs you the same? A revolutionary "future-proof" technology, first proposed by Bangor University, is the front-runner in satisfying future demand for dramatically increased internet speeds and capacity. The technology, which would use current optical internet cabling, has proven its ability to increase broadband transmission by up to two thousand times the current speed and capacity. To illustrate, that would mean downloading 20 feature length films in one second. Read the full news article here: www.bangor.ac.uk

The Real Maine
The Real Maine is the debut documentary by filmmaker Erik van Ingen. Inspired by John L. Parker's novel "Once A Runner" van Ingen approached fellow Five Star Cross Country Camp counselors Kyle Merber and Chris Derrick in August 2010.
Van Ingen proposed a summer of training in solitude. In April of 2011 action was put behind these words. The group had inquired Riley Masters about Maine as a potential training destination. Almost immediately Masters was added to the group. Merber invited fellow teammate Mark Feigen who was fresh off of a breakthrough season to join the group.
July 2011 The group met for the first time in Bangor, Maine. The film follows the lead up to the summer, the summer itself, and the successes that follow.

Landing in Bangor, Maine (BGR) Bangor International Airport
I really enjoyed this quick flight from LGA to BGR. The weather was great, with excellent visibility throughout the entire ride. It's nice to see such great conditions in Bangor, it can get pretty ugly in the winter! It may be off the radar of most people, but Bangor, Maine is one of my favorite destinations! If you go, be sure to have a drink at Barnaby's in the Ramada Hotel! A bit of information about the Bangor International Airport from Wikipedia: Bangor International Airport (IATA: BGR, ICAO: KBGR) is a joint civil-military public airport located 3 mi (4.8 km) west of the city of Bangor, in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. It is owned and operated by the City of Bangor and was formerly a military installation known as Dow Air Force Base. The airport possesses a single runway measuring 11439 by 200 ft (3487 by 61 m) . Despite the departure of most of the Air Force presence in the late 1960s, Bangor International Airport remains the home of a small Air Force contingent in the form of an Air National Guard Base. This installation is hosted by the 101st Air Refueling Wing of the Maine Air National Guard, flying the KC-135 Stratotanker. The airport owes its prosperity to its location on the Great Circle Route, or major air corridor, between Europe and the East Coast of the United States. Bangor International is operated as an "enterprise fund", which means that the expense of operating it comes from airport revenue. Revenues are generated by air service operations ...

Bangor Savings Bank "Christmas Kittens"
Here's a commercial made by Jack Havey at Ad Media (Augusta, Maine) in 1980 that may be one of the longest running TV ads in history. Until just a few years ago, the bank - due to popular demand - would revive this spot every Christmas on the Bangor TV stations. After we shot the commercial (I was the cameraman and editor), Jack kept the kittens at his camp on Maranacook Lake, and some of them ran off into the woods, prefering the feral life. I believe their offspring still roam those woods today.
