PREHISTORIC MEGASTORMS - NOAH'S GREAT FLOOD
THIS IS FOR EDUCATIONAL AND ENTERMAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY: THANKS TO THE HISTORY CHANNEL FOR MAKING THIS AVAILABLE ONLINE FREE. THIS MATERIAL IS DISTRIBUTED WITHOUT PROFIT TO THOSE WHO HAVE EXPRESSED A PRIOR GENERAL INTEREST IN RECEIVING SIMILAR INFORMATION FOR RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES Could the biblical story of Noah be true? Did real disasters inspire the story of Earth's 40-day submersion, the ultimate "do-over?" Recent core sample discoveries point to a series of events that could have lead to climactic conditions that washed out entire land masses, even destroying complete civilizations. MEGA DISASTERS examines one such cataclysm in great detail: 8000 years ago the Mediterranean Sea, pushed by rising sea levels worldwide, exploded through the Bosporus Strait with devastating results. This ancient inundation may have been the greatest natural disaster in the history of humankind. MEGA DISASTERS reconstructs this massive flood, which claimed an area twice the size of Ireland, and utilizes vivid 3D animation to plunge viewers deep into the experience of this epic catastrophe. NOAH'S GREAT FLOOD, whether apocryphal or literal, is the ultimate tale of man vs. nature (and God, for that matter), and MEGA DISASTERS shows how it may have really happened!

The Math of the Great Flood
I was surprised to find very few places where the math of Noah's flood was discussed, so I made this video to illustrate the scale of what the bible describes. Seeing it calculated out makes the myth seem a lot more fantastical and less feasible. After researching this video, it became clear to me that the people who wrote this myth originally did not understand how outlandish their claims were at the time, because they didn't know how big the planet was, or how tall the highest mountain was, or how many species there are, or what that much rain looks like. Once you do the equations, you can see that this is all made up. For the ignorant desert tribes during the time of Gilgamesh, there was no danger that anyone would call the authors out, but the people of modern times have no excuse for blindly accepting it.

Nashville Flood - Monster Truck Rescue, May 2, 2010
See my photographs of flooded downtown Nashville: www.flickr.com Charlotte & Morrow: Well-intentioned people with a boat attempt to rescue the stranded Pep Boys employees and are upstaged by a monster truck. Rescued Pep Boy guy discovers his car is overturned in the middle of a flooded street. EDIT: People keep commenting on the idiocy of the guys in the boat and asking why people didn't just walk out of the store. The water was mixed with raw sewage. You walk through that. Also, people had been strongly advised not to drive through the water because they could just become another victim in need of help from a system that was already overloaded. The current on the side of the store had already washed cars away, so it wasn't incredibly smart to drive into all of that. I just wanted to make sure that people know that the boat guys were trying their best to help, and had gone to the trouble of bringing their own boat out to rescue some people when the city didn't have enough boats to go around. It's still funny, but they were just trying to help, and the monster truck guy was being pretty reckless.

In the spring of 1927, the river broke out of its banks in 145 places and inundated 27000 square miles to a depth of up to 30 feet. Part of it enduring legacy was the mass exodus of displaced sharecroppers. Musically, the "Great Migration" of rural southern blacks to Northern cities saw the Delta Blues electrified and reinterpreted as the Chicago Blues, Rhythm and Blues, and Rock and Roll. Using minimal text and no spoken dialog, filmmaker Bill Morrison and composer / guitarist Bill Frisell have created a powerful portrait of a seminal moment in American history through a collection of silent images matched to a searing original soundtrack.

Mondo Xmas
(feat. The Christmas Martian)
When December comes, connoisseurs of cracked cinema have reason to be jolly, for ‘tis the season for holiday schlock to flood the TV screen and choke the movie theaters. Once again, Cinefamily is going to spoil you rotten with all kinds of goodies, including verité footage of department store Santas, misguided movie tie-ins, exhumed cartoons and aborted holiday specials. Finally, we’ll unwrap The Christmas Martian, the ‘71 French Canadian bizarro kids’ film! “It's common knowledge that Santa Claus conquered the Martians...but only a half dozen or so Christmases later, a bubble-spouting Martian crash landed in Quebec to learn about a variety of fun winter activities, and to shower children with candy. Space candy. Easily the most insane example of Canadian children's cinema ever conceived, the nonsensical Le Martien de Noël wildly bounces from wacky action sequences to unrelated tangents, all highlighted by special effects even the most distracted seven year-old could see through. In other words, it's great!” (Canuxsploitation.com) Come celebrate the holidays with the only family that knows what you really want -- the Cinefamily. Yule be glad you did.
The Christmas Martian Dir. Bernard Gosselin, 1971, 35mm, 65 min.

Absolute Body Control
Epopoeia of the Food and Drink of the United States (A Dream in Hell)
1
Beautiful like a baby calf is the song of chicken fried with batter,
the long red and white picnic tablecloth is finer than the finest lady’s legs, the finest thing there is to embark upon a heaping bowl of coleslaw,
shrimp from the gulf coast are delicious, gushing with wine as if feeling,
like honey mussels, in Redmond or Olympia, harvested by fishwives, in the seaweed,
and the glory of banjos in Baton Rouge, their juices course through them like
ageless autumn lemons,
like mom's fragrant pot pie, chocked full of juicy stew, widens the gullet,
and, baked, cries out blooming peach tree blossoms.
2
What would you say to some barbecue ribs, burning hot
grilled on a charcoal fire in June on the banks of a man made lake,
pines or cedar trees that sum up the dramatic atmosphere of a
damp sunset at Lake Lanier or Stone Mountain,
or to a clam chowder, whose name is inextricably related to Manhattan or
Rhode Island or New England?
No, you hunt quail and you grill it, just like you hear honky-tonk or stars and stripes
at the feet of Mount Rushmore, and fried catfish along the Chattahoochee
where it leaps into the sacred sizzling skillet, superbly fine
river fish, makes fishing boats rich while the sisters Lee,
as if in pain, sweat what's human and divine on the grand antique family fiddle.
3
Tremendous turkeys that smell like summer, almost human, autumn shades of
walnut or chestnut, I eat them everywhere, and in D.C. I kiss them,
like the vats where barley sighs like the prettiest girl in Jersey
raising her skirt underneath the lights of the big apple, same
as the roof off of a block party with streamers and flags where we drink in red plastic cups
a substantial whiskey and beer,
or the love mattress, upon which we set sail and sighing face each other and
the night’s tremendous oceans, into whose horrible darkness,
black and tenacious flows the bloody calla lily,
or the teardrop that falls in our moths as we joyfully sing.
4
Napa Valley wine is enormous and dark in the California sunset, and when
it's in your blood, nostalgia
and the apology to heroism sing in the wheels of spurs to
the beast’s hide, dancing to the fundamental tune of backwater rapids
against the frothy red glare.
5
Nicely aged bourbon bellows in its cellars like a great sacred cow,
and St. Louis will be golden, like a rib-eye on the grill, all over
the bloodied paths towards Oklahoma, autumn's
guitar will weep like a soldier's widow,
and we'll remember everything we didn’t do and could have and
should have and wanted to, like a madman
staring down a town's abandoned well,
watching, ear shattering, the engines of youth rev down dawn's
wide gust
crumbling like memories in the abyss.
6
The saddle glows all across the Midwest, mountain range to mountain range, booming like a great combine with its 20 foot span, booming
like a cow auctioneer or a righteous pastor or tornado season,
lasso raised up against the sky
on top of a guffaw, a hyuck or a yeehaw, splashed with sun and hard work, where manure perfumes dung heaps like a domestic god, with tremendous balls like a widow.
7
A mighty log cabin with its open yard, apple trees, front porch
scented with remote antiquity,
where the bootlegger and his still would sing, drop by drop, a sense of eternity into
the water, recalling old ancestors with its tremulous pendulum,
exists, same as in Madison as in Franklin or Fairview or Springfield,
although it’s the little town of Hodgenville Kentucky that most proudly proclaims the wooden troughs or pig iron pots, wide open spaces, the Appalachians, the original wild west, civil war and emancipation, in little log cabins,
from Tennessee to Ohio, who express it proudly in tremendous language, eating ears of pigs eating ears of corn.
8
Because, if it's necessary to stuff yourself with hot dogs in a Detroit Coney before dying,
on a rainy day, blessed with a strawberry milkshake from fresh upstate dairy, and smoke, bathing in conversation, friends and the munchies, launching yourself into terrible leaps and bounds, blubbering, savoring the booming chili in spoonfuls and fries,
it's also necessary to get your meat from the Kansas City stockyards in March, when the pigs
look like televangelists and the televangelists look like swine or hippopotamus,
and wash the food down with some fiery sips from a short glass,
yes... in Dallas or Fort Worth the corn tortillas look like the local ladies: wide white waists and sleepy half moon eyes, since, ticklish and cuddly,
they turn their faces, and let themselves be kissed, unendingly on either end.
9
And the chit'lins, swimming and searing in broth and tabasco, and the cornbread that moaned in broiling bacon fat, is blessed where thunder rolls in wide whips, along the Mississippi, between one drink and the next,
but it never surpasses a gamy partridge, savored in the dry underbrush of July,

HUGE WIN IN FOR MR. MINN AND THE SANTA CRUZ SYNDICATE AT WORLD CUP OPENER!!
ietermaritzburg, South Africa
March 18, 2012
Greg Minnaar wins the UCI World Cup Downhill season opener aboard his Fox/Shimano equipped carbon V-10 with an exhilarating run that had the hill alive with the roar of thousands of fans including the oneLife crew and the Minnaarmy! Steve Peat came in 15th and Josh Bryceland 21st on this improved, pedaling course in Greg’s hometown of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
It always feels like a homecoming for us to be in this friendly city and the Syndicate was welcomed back by all Greg’s family and friends. The local support of the race is big and there were many improvements to the track and the race venue. Training went well all week and the boys came into the season fit and lean. Greg was fastest in qualifier by the slimmest margin of .008 over Aaron Gwin and he picked up max points for his efforts. Steve was 11th fastest and Josh 17th.
Rain was on and off during the week and we had quite a bit come down on race night. Things dried up quick and we had a beautiful day for the race. Everyone got to the top of the hill eager to get the season underway. Greg started into his race run and made a few mistakes and was 2 seconds down at the first split. He gained some time by the second split and was only 1 second off the pace. Steve said, “Greg can make up that time.” As Greg neared the finish the volume of the crowd was at a fevered pitch and this certainly had to boost the effort into overdrive. As the leader board went green the oneLife crew of friends pushed the fence down and flooded into the finish arena while Steve lifted Greg off the ground in victory.
An ecstatic Greg says, “I made a few mistakes on the top part of the track and I knew I had to make up some time. On the bottom section I had to stand and pedal hard and I fought all the way to the finish. You know when you are coming into the finish and you see the oneLife crew breaking the fence down that you’ve had a good run. And then Steve jumped over the fence and grabbed me I knew I had won. It’s a great feeling to do well in front of all my family and friends and their support is amazing!”
Steve comments, “Another great weekend racing in Maritzburg. The fans and the onelife crew made it an awesome weekend, and I feel privileged that it was my 100th World Cup start. Luckily the track dried out and made the racing fast and tight. Although I wasn’t too happy with my 15th place result, I was over the moon for Greg. He dug deep and took the win for the home crowd!!”
Josh placed 21st and said, “After a hard winter training I don’t feel I quite did myself justice on my race run, but I left it all on the hill and the bike feels better than ever. I’m really happy for Greg, not only just with the win in his hometown, but starting the season with a win and full points. Also good to see Peaty Dog still has a little bit of fire in him, as always.”
The win makes Greg’s 16th World Cup win (11 on Santa Cruz) and is his 53rd World Cup Downhill podium, (besting Steve’s 52 podiums). Greg now leads the World Cup overall with 250 points over Aaron Gwin’s 200 points. Steve is 14th in the standings and Josh is 17th. Greg will be in the leader jersey going into the next World Cup in Val Di Sole, Italy in May.

At around 9 am i was suppose to go to work at Sta Cruz Manila. I passed Aurora blvd coming from Broadway centrum. As I noticed tremedous rain and beginning flood, i decided to pull back and stay in SM Centerpoint until the rain stops..But it didn't... Contrary to what they did at Gotesco mall where they tried to let the people not to enter the mall because they said they are closing....The administration of SM allowed us to enter and stay inside the mall...They even allowed one of the moviehouse and the Hall of Bingo Bonanza as a resting place to prevent loittering and looting...Thanks to SM centerpoint.......Savior Mall

Minnie and The Great Flood
The Great Flood of Middle Tennessee was two years ago -- from May 1st-May 4th 2010. The creek adjacent to a pasture at Q overflowed its banks. Minnie was thrilled to discover that she had a big new infinity pool, courtesy of brush that built up on the internal fencing in Q, creating a dam and a enormous elephant sized pool. She rearranged the logs and debris to her liking, and settled in and sat down to enjoy the current as it flowed all around her. A squeaky clean Minnie has pink pigmentation on her face and ears and the tip of her trunk -- not normally visible with her normal layer of day to day dirt and dust. It was a day made in heaven for Minnie! Not so much for The Elephant Sanctuary staff who had a lot of work to do once the waters receded! If you didn't hear about the Great Flood of Middle Tennessee -- here is a comparison of the chaos in the city and life in Sanctuary: www.youtube.com
