Kawasaki Kanagawa
Kawasaki www.shanagrant.com Kawasaki is a city located in Kanagawa, Japan, between Tokyo and Yokohama. It is the 9th most populated city in Japan and one of the main cities forming the Greater Tokyo Area and Keihin Industrial Area. Kawasaki occupies a belt of land stretching about 30 km along the south bank of the Tama River, which divides it from Tokyo. The eastern end of the belt, centered around JR Kawasaki Station, is flat and largely consists of industrial zones and densely built working-class housing, the Western end mountainous and more suburban. The coastline of Tokyo Bay is occupied by vast heavy industrial complexes built on reclaimed land. The western area of Kawasaki, also known as the Tama Hills, largely consists of newly developed residential areas which are connected to Tokyo by the Odakyū Odawara Line and Tokyu Denentoshi Line. The area also houses several university campuses, suburban commercial developments and light industrial complexes. Its name is made of kawa = "river" and saki = "small peninsula" or "department".

Kyu Sakamoto - Sukiyaki (1963) Tribute
Biography Sakamoto was born in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture as the youngest among nine siblings—his nickname Kyu, meaning 'nine', is an alternate reading of the kanji (九) for his given name (Hisashi). His parents, Hiroshi Sakamoto and Iku Sakamoto, both worked at a restaurant. Sakamoto was cousin to the free-jazz saxophonist Kaoru Abe. In high school Sakamoto began to sing and became very popular. In 1958 he joined the Japanese pop-band "The Drifters" as a singer. One of his best known and most beloved songs was "Ashita ga Aru Sa" ("There's Always Tomorrow"). It was covered by the Japanese band Ulfuls in 2001. Sakamoto worked very hard for old, young and handicapped people in Japan. "Ashita Ga Aru Sa" was the leading theme of the 1964 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo. Death On August 12, 1985, Kyu Sakamoto died in the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123. Before the aircraft crashed, Sakamoto wrote a farewell note to his wife, Yukiko Kashiwagi. Married in 1971, they had two daughters, Hanako and Maiko. Success outside Japan His most popular song, "Ue o muite arukō" ("I look up when I walk") was popular around the world. In 1963, the British record label Pye Records released a cover version of the song by Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen. They were concerned that English-speaking audiences might find the original title too difficult to remember/pronounce, so they gave it the new title of "Sukiyaki'". This title was retained when Capitol Records in the United States, and His Master's ...

After the Quake: Queue for the Train in Kawasaki, Japan
Last Friday a devastating earthquake struck Eastern Japan. Things are extremely bad. Today individuals, companies and industry have been cutting electricity consumption as much as possible across East Japan. Several Nuclear power stations are inoperative (exploded) and power is scarce. This morning, the trains were running an extremely limited service. The Tokaido line (one of the busiest in the world) was closed, so people with a strong desire to work queued for the Keikyu line. And queued. And queued. I used my bike. I hope this video can provide a bit of light relief from the horrors that are flooding our TV screens, our twitter-feeds and our minds. Oh, and DONATE: www.google.co.jp
