Ancient Ayutthaya
The ancient Siamese capital of Ayuthaya is pleasant town to spend a few days enjoying the ruins and canals and learning a bit of history. When Bangkok was a swampy backwater, Ayutthaya was a powerful military and economic city which dominated central Thailand for 400 years. The best way to visit the complex is by bike. Check out the elephant taxi stand and watch out for elephant taxis in park. The ruins are magical to see at night by foot when the stupas and pagodas are floodlit.

Amazing Thailand #7: River Cruise From Ayutthaya to Bangkok
After visiting the ancient city of Ayutthaya and learning about the capital of the kingdom of Siam (today Thailand), we took a boat on our way back to Bangkok (already included in the trip) in the Chao Phraya river. The river cruise takes a couple of hours but it is very comfortable and with good Thai food. By cruising in the Chao Phraya river from Ayutthaya we can see temples, Buddha statues and villages, until we get to the skyscrapers of Bangkok. Please watch Amazing Thailand #6 to see the ancient city of Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya (พระนครศรีอยุธยา) city is the capital of Ayutthaya province in Thailand. The city was founded in 1350 by King U Thong, who went there to escape a smallpox outbreak in Lop Buri and proclaimed it the capital of his kingdom, often referred to as the Ayutthaya kingdom or Siam. It is estimated that Ayutthaya by the year 1600 CE had a population of about 300000, with the population perhaps reaching 1000000 around 1700 CE, making it one of the world's largest cities at that time. In 1767 the city was destroyed by the Burmese army, resulting in the collapse of the kingdom. The ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya historical park, which is recognized internationally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Diogo Kyrillos Documentario Tailandia Globo Reporter

Ayutthaya Thailand
The kingdom of Ayutthaya (Thai: อยุธยา) was a Thai kingdom that existed from 1350 to 1767. King Ramathibodi I (Uthong) founded Ayutthaya as the capital of his kingdom in 1350 and absorbed Sukhothai, 640 km to the north, in 1376. Over the next four centuries the kingdom expanded to become the nation of Siam, whose borders were roughly those of modern Thailand, except for the north, the Kingdom of Lannathai. Ayutthaya was friendly towards foreign traders, including the Chinese, Vietnamese, Indians, Japanese and Persians, and later the Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch and French, permitting them to set up villages outside the city walls. The court of King Narai (1656-1688) had strong links with that of King Louis XIV of France, whose ambassadors compared the city in size and wealth to Paris.

Part 5 Thailand Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya was a Siamese kingdom that existed from 1350 to 1767. Ayutthaya was friendly towards foreign traders, including the Chinese, Vietnamese (Annamese), Indians, Japanese and Persians, and later the Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch and French, permitting them to set up villages outside the walls of the capital, also called Ayutthaya. In the sixteenth century, it was described by foreign traders as one of the biggest and wealthiest cities in the East. The court of King Narai (1656--88) had strong links with that of King Louis XIV of France, whose ambassadors compared the city in size and wealth to Paris. By 1550, the kingdom's vassals included some city-states in the Malay Peninsula, Sukhothai, and parts of Cambodia. In foreign accounts, Ayutthaya was called Siam, but many sources say the people of Ayutthaya called themselves Tai, and their kingdom Krung Tai, 'Tai Kingdom'. Wikipedia

A Public Bus Ride Ayutthaya to Sukhothai, Thailand
www.TravelsWithSheila.com Don't be afraid to take a public bus in Thailand. The higher class buses are usually very nice. First class has reclining seats, toilets on board, air conditioning and even an on-board attendant to answer questions, show you to your reserved seat. There is also an opportunity to take one of the so-called "chicken buses" if you are really strapped for cash and don't mind being uncomfortable. They also show videos, television shows and movies for most of the route and fares are very reasonable. The five-hour journey from Ayutthaya to Sukhothai passed quickly.

AYUTTHAYA Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Thailand
Eighty kilometres north of Bangkok is Thailand's former capital city of Ayutthaya, a famous historical site that is both exotic and atmospheric. For more than 400 years, Ayutthaya Kingdom, 'Siam', a glorious capital city, was the residence of no less than 33 kings and five dynasties. The royal temple of Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, that is dominated by three chedi, is one of the most famous ruins in Ayutthaya. Within the chedis, that are of typical Ceylonese bell-shaped design, are the ashes of three prominent Thai kings. The ruins of Ayutthaya still provide an insight into its original size and ancient splendor. Indeed, it is a historic metropolis whose dimensions once even surpassed today's modern cities of both Paris and London.

Invading Hua Hin and Ayutthaya in Thailand
I have always been fascinated by the beauty of Thailand. One day, I took a road trip from Bangkok to Hua Hin to discover the magical kingdom of King Chulalongkorn. From there, I chanced upon entering teh old capital of Thailand, Ayutthaya. Here, the temples abound and teh ruins of the historical past remain incredible. I have never seen such a fascinating site with so much Buddhas to reckn with. The journey took me back from the port of Ayutthaya to Bangkok via the river cruise whilst enjoying a rustic view of the country. Thus, I say, Thailand is AMAZING!

Their Majesties the King and Queen visit Ayutthaya 25 May 2012 [06:27 sec.]
AYUTTHAYA, May 25 - His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited Ayutthaya's Thung Makham Yong, a historic trip to Thailand's former capital amid huge crowd of well wishers.
The trip is the monarch’s first long distance trip outside Bangkok since he was admitted to Siriraj Hospital nearly three years ago in 2009.
Emotionally overwhelmed well wishers waving national flags and royal emblems shouted "Long live the King" when the monarch departed the hospital and on arrival at Thung Makham Yong.
Thung Makham Yong in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district has special significance for the king himself as a location of a ‘monkey cheek’ water retention area royal project designed to retain and divert flood water and historically as home to the monument to Queen Srisuriyothai of Ayutthaya.
The area has deep significance for Thais because it was the place where Queen Suriyothai of the Ayutthaya period fought bravely against an invading army and sacrificed her life defending her husband and the Kingdom.
The monarch harvested rice from a royal experimental rice field in Thung Makham Yong on May 14, 1996.
Upon arrival, HM the King, in army uniform, paid homage to the statue of Queen Srisuriyothai before enjoying the variety of performances including an elephant parade, a light and sound show and a folk boat procession prepared by local residents.
HM the King was scheduled to return to Siriraj Hospital after the visit.
The monarch was admitted to Siriraj Hospital on Sept 19, 2009 with symptoms of fever, lung inflammation and fatigue.
He has recovered but has remained in hospital ever since, both for continuing physical therapy and nourishment to regain his strength.
People flocked to claim vantage points at Siriraj Hospital and at Thung Makham Yong since early morning, waiting to catch a glimpse of His Majesty King when he left hospital in the late afternoon and on arrival in the
historic Ayutthaya setting.

Thailand
ประเทศไทย; RTGS: Prathet Thai), officially the Kingdom of Thailand (Thai: ราชอาณาจักรไทย; RTGS: Ratcha Anachak Thai; IPA: ( listen), or formerly known as Siam (Thai: สยาม; RTGS: Sayam), is a country located at the centre of the Indochina peninsula and Southeast Asia. It is bordered to the north by Burma and Laos, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Burma. Its maritime boundaries include Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast and Indonesia and India in the Andaman Sea to the southwest.
The country is a kingdom, with most recorded reigns in the world. It is a constitutional monarchy with King Rama IX, the ninth king of the House of Chakri, who has reigned since 1946, making him the world's longest-serving current head of state and the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history.[7] The king is officially titled Head of State, the Head of the Armed Forces, an Upholder of the Buddhist religion, and the Defender of all Faiths.
Thailand is the world's 51st largest country in terms of total area (slightly smaller than Yemen and slightly larger than Spain), with a surface area of approximately 513,000 km2 (198,000 sq mi), and the 21st most-populous country, with approximately 64 million people. The largest city is Bangkok, the capital, which is also the country's center of political, commercial, industrial and cultural activities. About 75% of the population is ethnically Thai, 14% is of Chinese origin, and 3% is ethnically Malay;[8] the rest belong to minority groups including Mons, Khmers and various hill tribes. The country's official language is Thai. The primary religion is Buddhism, which is practiced by around 95% of all Thais.
Thailand experienced rapid economic growth between 1985 and 1995 and is a newly industrialized country with tourism, due to well-known tourist destinations such as Ayutthaya, Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai, and Ko Samui, and exports contributing significantly to the economy.[9][10] There are approximately 2.2 million legal and illegal migrants in Thailand.[11] Thailand has also attracted a number of expatriates from developed countries.
