Natalie McMaster & Bruce Guthro - fiddle e bow.avi
Vocals: Bruce Guthro Words and music: Bruce Guthro O my name is William MacDonnell, I have come across the sea I am no handsome man of wealth, nor do I plan to be. But Ive a treasure fit for kings, and beggars all the same And she comes with me wherever I go, sometimes she calls my name. My father worked his life away, diggin for the coal To the central lowlands every day, with shovel he would go And he left for me the only thing, he felt he had twas fine It is my pride and joy, its yours now boy read the note he left behind. No apple falls far from a tree, now I pass this fiddle down to thee Hold it near your heart and soul, and let your passions guide your bow And when the music sweet does play, know Ill be not far away Though my body lies down with the coal, my spirit lies for you to hold In the fiddle and bow So with fiddle strapped upon my back I set out to see new lands I have lived a wild and rovin life, played to meek and grand And to all I played with all I had and I could not help believe When Id draw the bow across the strings, somehow Id set him free

Hull Model Railway show 2010 (pt4: Haymarket Cross & Duncrievie Sidings)
(NOTE: ON VIDEO DUNCRIEVIE SIDINGS SHOULD SAY EM GAUGE NOT OO )Continuing our look at the layouts at the 2010 Hull Model Railway Show, we show here two more. Both 00 & EM scale's, & DCC controlled. The 1st layout is a MPD set in the early 1960's (61 - 62) on the ECML. the layout is Haymarket Cross & is by Mr Ian Harper (Scarborough). The yard lamps seen on this layout are by RMLectronics: www.rmlectronics.co.uk Many east coast loco's are seen here from A4's through to the Deltics. The layout is DCC controlled by the Lenz system. With sound fitted loco's from Hornby, Bachmann, Olivia's & Howes. The other layout seen here is by Mr Adrian Walby (Thrisk) & is EM gauge. The layout is the 'Bitsa principal, where only the loco & 1st few wagons can be seen, the rest are off stage so to speak. Great way of doing a layout if your struggling for space. The layout is set in the central lowlands of scotland, & features a small wagon repair depot as well as the loco's running around their trains. Check out the nicely detailed scenery. Time period for this layout is around autumn 2009.Dcc power system by NCE, with loco's fitted with sound decoders from olivia's trains. Part 5 to follow next.

RUNRIG - PAUL MOUNSEY - SCOTTISH PLACES - PAISLEY, RENFREWSHIRE, SCOTLAND.
Paul Mounsey and Runrig Audio accompanied by footage of the town of Paisley in Renfrewshire, Scotland. Paisley is the largest town in the historic county of Renfrewshire, and the administrative centre of the Renfrewshire council area, in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It is situated on the northern edge of the Gleniffer Braes, straddling the banks of the White Cart Water. The town, a former burgh, forms a contiguous urban area with Greater Glasgow, Glasgow City Centre being 6.9 miles (11.1 km) to the east. The town came to prominence with the establishment of Paisley Abbey, which formerly had control over the other churches in the local area. By the 19th century, Paisley had established itself as a centre of the weaving industry, giving its name to the Paisley Shawl and the Paisley Pattern. The town's associations with political Radicalism were highlighted by its involvement in the Radical War of 1820, with striking weavers being instrumental in the protests.

Alva - Clackmannanshire - Scotland
Alva (Allamhagh in Gaelic) is a small town in Clackmannanshire, set in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. It is one of a number of towns situated immediately to the south of the Ochil Hills, collectively referred to as the Hillfoots Villages or simply The Hillfoots. Alva had a resident population of 5181 at the 2001 census but has since been revised to 4960 in 2006. During the Industrial Revolution, Alva developed as a textile manufacturing centre and the woollen mills provided employment for locals and migrant workers to the area. The Mill Trail Centre, next to Cochrane Park, houses permanent exhibitions about the history of the old woollen industry and the experiences of the many people employed in the industry. On the site of the town's post office there used to be an old weaving shed, which was rented out to William Nicholl and Son, a locally famous cabinet maker and upholster. This shed was also haunted by the sounds of looms spinning on the uninhabited first floor. Alva lies right at the foot of the Ochil Hills. The Ochil Fault, movement of which gave rise to the steep southern scarp of the Ochils, coincides approximately with the old road along the base of the hills. The rock beneath the carse in this area is carboniferous. The town is situated on slightly higher ground than the surrounding carse, being on two overlapping alluvial fans, made up of material deposited by the Carnaughton Glen and Alva Glen burns. The spectacular Alva Glen cuts into the Ochils ...

How Do We Know: Greenland’s Melting Ice Sheet
Greenland is covered in so much ice that if it all melted, it would raise sea level around the world by 23 feet. While it's not all melting, scientists say that climate change is turning a lot of that ice to water. But, how do we know?
Two GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) satellites that orbit the Earth in tandem were launched in March 2002 by NASA. The pair measure the distance separating each other to an accuracy of 1 percent of the width of a human hair — and they orbit as far apart as Washington, DC and Philadelphia. Because each satellite accelerates or decelerates depending on the mass of the area beneath it (for example, a massive mountain range vs. flat lowlands), and because one satellite trails the other at some distance, the record of the shifting distance between them can be read like a giant planetary scale. And since they orbit over the same areas every ten days, the GRACE satellites provide a detailed record of mass changes in time, even tracking the seasonal accumulation and melting of Arctic snow.

Before Columbus Discovered Chocolate—Cacao Cultivation and Courtly Appetite in the Classic Maya Lowland
The cacao bean - foundation of chocolate - is loved and consumed throughout the world as a candy, sauce, or drink. Archaeological evidence now points to the Maya region of southern México and northern Central America as the place where cacao-based cuisine developed. Between the 7th and 9th centuries CE, the cultivation of cacao trees expanded and this "food of the gods" became a highly desired item at Classic Maya courts. Anthropologist Patricia A. McAnany (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) brings this time alive through presentation of new research on cacao.

Clackmannan
Clackmannan (Scottish Gaelic: Clach Mhanainn, meaning "Stone of Manau"), is a small town set in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. Situated within the Forth Valley, Clackmannan is 1.8 miles (2.9 km) south-east of Alloa and 3.2 miles (5.1 km) south of Tillicoultry. The town is part of the Clackmannanshire council area and was formerly the county town of the county of Clackmannan which is Scotland's smallest. According to a 2009 estimate the population of the settlement of Clackmannan is 3348 residents The name of the town refers to the Stone of Mannan, a pre-Christian monument which can be seen in the town square, beside the Tollbooth Tower, which dates from the 16th century. During the 12th century, the area formed part of the lands controlled by the abbots of Cambuskenneth. Later it became associated with the Bruce family. During the 14th century they built a strategic tower-house, which survives to this day above the town (Historic Scotland; can only be viewed from the outside due to subsidence). The Stone of Manau "The stone or clack, originally placed at the foot of Lookabootye Brae, was sacred to the the pre-Christian deity, Mannan, and is an unique relic of pagan times. It was raised on the large shaft in 1833." "The seagod, Manau, is linked with the mythology of the Isle of Man. The "large shaft" is itself, apparently, an old standing stone. St Serf founded a church in Clackmannan in c680 AD, which has been replaced several times since then, but the Stone of Manau ...

Kala Wewa Sri Lankan Hydraulic Civilization & Ancient Tanks (Technology that never reveal )
Kala Wewa;Spillway Sri Lanka is a classic example of the "hydraulic civilization" which had developed in the ancient periodWith the immigration of Aryans from Eastern India to Lanka in 543 BC, cultivation of rice developed into a grand scale in the island. As the new essentially agricultural Aryan civilization flourished, increasingly ambitious projects of irrigation were launched at a pace with a view to harness the monsoon rains. The rainwater reservoirs developed in the ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura (437 BC-845 AD) & Polonnaruwa (846 AD-1302 AD) Dry Zone of central lowlands resulted in two season of farming while the Wet Zone remained sparsely populated and covered by thick forests Today around 12000 ancient small dams & 320 ancient large dams together with thousands of man-made lakes dot the lowlands, with over 10000 reservoirs in the Northern Province alone.
