MEAT IS MURDER -being vegetarian-
Vegetarianism is the practice of following a plant-based diet including fruits, vegetables, cereal grains, nuts, and seeds, with or without dairy products and eggs. A vegetarian does not eat meat, including red meat, game, poultry, fish, crustacea, and shellfish, and may also abstain from by-products of animal slaughter such as animal-derived rennet, found in some cheeses, and gelatin. Vegetarians may consume these or other unfamiliar animal ingredients unknowingly, however. Vegetarianism may be adopted for ethical, health, environmental, religious, political, cultural, aesthetic, economic, or other reasons, and there are a number of vegetarian diets. A lacto-vegetarian diet includes dairy products but not eggs, an ovo-vegetarian diet includes eggs but not dairy products, and an ovo-lacto vegetarian diet includes both eggs and dairy products. A vegan diet excludes all animal products, such as dairy products, eggs, and usually honey. Many vegans also seek to avoid using any other animal-derived products, such as clothing and cosmetics. Semi-vegetarian diets consist largely of vegetarian foods, but may include fish or poultry, or other meats on an infrequent basis. A pescetarian diet, for example, includes fish but no meat. Those with diets containing fish or poultry may define "meat" as mammalian flesh and may identify with vegetarianism. However, vegetarian groups such as the Vegetarian Society have stated that diets containing fish and poultry are not vegetarian, because ...

My6Months Vegetarian meals - P90X beachbody shakeology
www.My6Months.com Health and Fitness Documentary... please comment to help with the documentary. 1. Pescatarian (also spelled pescetarian) The word "pescatarian" is occasionally used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet. 2. Flexitarian You don't have to be vegetarian to love vegetarian food! "Flexitarian" is a term recently coined to describe those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat. 3. Vegetarian (Lacto-ovo- vegetarian) When most people think of vegetarians, they think of lacto-ovo-vegetarians. People who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products are lacto-ovo vegetarians ("lacto" comes from the Latin for milk, and "ovo" for egg). Lacto-vegetarian is used to describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products. 4. Vegan Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin. Many vegans also refrain from eating foods that are made using animal products that may not contain animal products in the finished process, such as sugar and some wines. There is some debate as to whether certain foods, such as honey, fit into a vegan ...

Studies of Edible Material Studio Documentation
Studies of Edible Material is a single channel video, audio and mixed media installation. The video piece is an hour long, linear collection of video shorts that play on a loop. Each short is a portrait of living livestock functioning in an array of different environments. Audibly, one hears cattle feeding on hay, which loops with the video and runs just as long. On the ground, in the center of the installation space is a bail of hay that is dimly lit by the video projection. The hay is a tangible found object that represents edible material. It also has a distinct odor that further relates the viewer to the video and audio.
Studies of Edible Material is a result of my research on livestock farming and breeding practices in modern day North America. These topics, along with environmental and animal rights concerns, branched from being an Ovo-lacto vegetarian. For almost four years, I have chosen to not eat any kind of animal flesh. As an Ovo-lacto vegetarian, I do consume egg and dairy products, which, vegans do not. This alone pressed me to question being a vegetarian. Why was I eating some animal products and not others? Why am I a vegetarian at all?
This project, Studies of Edible Material reintroduced me to food and how I relate to it. Before the project began, I had a vague knowledge of what intensive livestock operations, or what are commonly known as, "factory farms," do. Also, I understood the basic trade of farming, which is commonly practiced in Kansas City, Missouri, where I am from. It wasn't until after reading Eating Animals, numerous online articles and studying up on other practicing artists with similar ideas, that I began to realize that what I thought was the problem may actually be the effect.
I have learned that both the United States and Canadian economies function on supply and demand of all things imported and exported. This is all relevant to population, wealth, land and consumption. With the increasing population in both the U.S. and Canada, modern means have been implemented to supply that demand. Which means, in the case of consumption, factory farms become the ultimate production method of meat dairy and eggs.
With this piece, Studies of Edible Material, I am communicating these ideas and creating a space where the viewer can relate to their food in a different way.

Ingredients
2 cups fresh strawberries, washed, dried (with paper towel), and quartered
2 cups fresh blueberries, washed and dried
2 cups fresh pineapple, peeled and cored, sliced and cut into pieces--same size as strawberry slices
3 tablespoons Spleda (or sugar or other artificial sweetener)
1 carton strawberry glaze (I used sugar-free.)
8 oz. carton frozen whipped topping, thawed (I used fat-free.)
Directions
Add 2 cups strawberry slices, 2 cups blueberries, and 2 cups pineapple pieces to a large clear serving bowl. Sprinkle with 3 tablespoons of Splenda, and gently stir it in. At this point, you can cover your springtime fruit salad with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve. Here are a few options: 1) You may serve your springtime salad, as is, by placing a generous portion in a berry bowl or flat salad dish--very pretty and very tasty! 2) You may make a beautiful dressing for your fruit salad as follows: Place about 1 cup of thawed whipped topping in a small mixing bowl. Add strawberry glaze, 1 tablespoon at a time, stirring after each addition. When you have the look you want, your dressing is done! (You may stir only until it is striated (red and white streaks), or stir completely for a "pinkish" look. Now place a generous dollop of your dressing on a bowl or plate of your springtime fruit salad--beautiful and luscious! 3) After making the dressing, you may stir it into your large bowl of springtime fruit salad, letting it permeate the entire salad. The fruit will be completely coated with a gorgeous pink dressing. Spoon a generous portion of your dressed springtime fruit salad into a berry bowl or on a flat salad plate--lovely! healthy! flavorful! You can't go wrong with this fruit salad/dressing combination!!!

Vegetarian Vs. Meat Diet
Pros and Cons of Vegetarian Diet Vs. Meat - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Today Iam going to talk about the Pros and Cons of a Meat and Vegetarian diet, and there is a lot of controversy about it. And each diet has its good points, but what you really need to know about whether you are a meat eater or a vegetable eater, you need to have variety in your diet. If you are strictly a carnivore which you really are not if you are a human, you are an omnivore, you probably will be eating some vegetables or some grains, you need to make sure that you get a wide range of nutrients. So, whether you are eating, you know, fish, chicken or beef or pork or lamb you still need to have your veggies with it and make sure that you rotate the foods that you have and not eat the same foods day in and day out. And the same goes for a vegetarian. You know, you can get stuck on eating soy burgers and tofu and even be a junk food vegetarian, which is not very healthy at all. So you want to make sure you get variety in your diet, even if you are eating vegetables. One of the healthiest vegetarian ways to eat is to be an ovo-lacto vegetarian which means including eggs and dairy in your diet, so it is not one hundred per cent vegetables, but if you include eggs and dairy, you are going to be getting good quality proteins. So, whether you are a vegetarian or meat eater, you are going to want to make sure that you pay attention to the quality of your diet and the variety of your diet ...
