Somaliland: Republic of Nowhere Part 1
The Republic of Somaliland is not recognised by the international community, but its people continue to work to rebuild the country after years of civil war. The Somaliland diaspora who fled the country as refugees are now returning and are the main contributors of development aid. We first encounter this country through Dr. Aaden Ismail, who uses his vacation time from his psychiatric practice in Canada to return to Somaliland. He provides psychiatric treatment and education at Hargeisa's mental health ward, helping a population still coming to terms with a brutal civil war. Portions of this documentary aired in a different form on CBC Dispatches.

Fall Of The Republic - The Presidency Of Barack H Obama - The Full Movie HQ
Fall Of The Republic documents how an offshore corporate cartel is bankrupting the US economy by design. Leaders are now declaring that world government has arrived and that the dollar will be replaced by a new global currency. President Obama has brazenly violated Article 1 Section 9 of the US Constitution by seating himself at the head of United Nations' Security Council, thus becoming the first US president to chair the world body. A scientific dictatorship is in its final stages of completion, and laws protecting basic human rights are being abolished worldwide; an iron curtain of high-tech tyranny is now descending over the planet. A worldwide regime controlled by an unelected corporate elite is implementing a planetary carbon tax system that will dominate all human activity and establish a system of neo-feudal slavery. The image makers have carefully packaged Obama as the world's savior; he is the Trojan Horse manufactured to pacify the people just long enough for the globalists to complete their master plan. This film reveals the architecture of the New World Order and what the power elite have in store for humanity. More importantly it communicates how We The People can retake control of our government, turn the criminal tide and bring the tyrants to justice. www.infowars.com

Origins of America's Healthcare Crisis - Jonathan Cohn
Complete video at: fora.tv Jonathan Cohn, Senior Editor of The New Republic, gives his take on the history of America's health care crisis. ----- Jonathan Cohn uncovers "Sick: The Untold Story of America's Health Care Crisis - and the People Who Pay the Price." In a tiny village tucked into the Catskill mountains, a man whose job stopped providing insurance watches his wife die from cancer. In a booming suburb outside of Austin, a mother fights with an insurance company so that her disabled baby can get the therapy that might someday help him walk. And in the middle of the prairie heartland, a retiree sells his house because it's the only way he can pay for the medications that keep him and his aging wife alive. To uncover the startling truth about the state of America's health care system, Jonathan Cohn raveled the country, listening to stories of those who are learning the hard way that citizenship in no way guarantees access to medical care. "Sick" is a fascinating, first-hand account of our failing health care system and the consequences that could someday affect us all - Cody's Books Jonathan Cohn is a senior editor at The New Republic, where he has been since 1997 and served for two years as the executive editor. He writes mainly about domestic politics and policy, with a particular focus on issues related to health care and social welfare.

Eric Weiner in conversation with Lisa Napoli
discussing his new book, MAN SEEKS GOD: My Flirtations with the Divine
ERIC WEINER is author of the New York Times bestseller The Geography of Bliss, which has been translated into eighteen languages. A former correspondent for NPR and the New York Times, Weiner has reported from more than three dozen countries. His work has appeared in the New Republic,Slate, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Foreign Policy, The New York Times Magazine, and the anthology Best American Travel Writing. For more information, be sure to visit: www.ericweinerbooks.com
When a health scare puts him in the hospital, Eric Weiner-an agnostic by default-finds himself tangling with an unexpected question, posed to him by a well-meaning nurse. Have you found your God yet? The thought of it nags him, and prods him-and ultimately launches him on a far-flung journey to do just that.
Weiner, a longtime spiritual voyeur and inveterate traveler, realizes that while he has been privy to a wide range of religious practices, he's never seriously considered these concepts in his own life. Face to face with his own mortality, and spurred on by the question of what spiritual principles to impart to his young daughter, he decides to correct this omission, undertaking a worldwide exploration of religions and hoping to come, if he can, to a personal understanding of the divine.
The journey that results is rich in insight, humor, and heart. Willing to do anything to better understand faith, and to find the god or gods that speak to him, he travels to Nepal, where he meditates with Tibetan lamas and a guy named Wayne. He sojourns to Turkey, where he whirls (not so well, as it turns out) with Sufi dervishes. He heads to China, where he attempts to unblock his chi; to Israel, where he studies Kabbalah, sans Madonna; and to Las Vegas, where he has a close encounter with Raelians.
LISA NAPOLI is a journalist and author. She was as reporter and back-up host for public radio show Marketplace. She covered the Internet revolution and the cultural impact of technology as a columnist and staff reporter for the New York Times CyberTimes, and as a correspondent for MSNBC. # Abnormal: The Sinema of Nick Zedd (2002) [DVD, Amazon US] [FR] [DE] [UK]
My money was well spent on this fascinating DVD which includes alot of entertainment.
I was particularly impressed by the diversity of the soundtrack music. The Swans are featured in two films, Go to Hell and Kiss Me Goodbye and the impact of this music is stirring.
The Dream Syndicate supply the music to a film Zedd collaborated on with R. Kern called Thrust In Me.
The excerpt from War Is Menstrual Envy likewise features outstanding music as does Tom Thumb, a recent digital movie by Zedd featuring the eerie and chilling sounds of Copenhagen's ANK as well as an appearance by Steen Jorgensen of Sort Sol.
Original music supplied by Lydia Lunch with the help of Thurston Moore, Jim Sclavenous and Pat Place featured in The Wild World of Lydia Lunch is much better than the repetetive sounds one hears in Kern's movies, though both are good. Comparing Zedd to Kern is like comparing apples to oranges.
Additionally, the rare interviews with Zedd, including a short doc on his noise unit Zyklon B are excellent.
The sounds produced by this short lived "digital hardcore" unit are way more exciting and innovative than stuff one usualy hears and the visuals are riveting. Nick Bohn was some kind of musical genius with the sequencer, producing amazing white noise harmonics with Zedd in Zyklon B.
The best stuff on the DVD are the colorful visuals and rare outtakes utilizing some of the most extraordinary underground personalities I've ever seen. --E. Ganji for amazon.com

R.I.P. Nick Bohn ~
April 22, 1973-June 20, 2003
Written by Mary Lenoir Bond
This article is a small dedication to the sad passing of a dear friend, who the world lost very suddenly on June 20th 2003. His name was Nick Bohn, a.k.a. Nickels, Smurfetta, Gladys, etc. My best friend and I use to call him "Moaner" as well, because when we first met him back in 1987, he fell asleep at a party or two (completely sober, I might add!) and made these cute little moaning sounds. Back then, when I first met him, I saw him as very shy and sweet and quiet. Though he later emerged into someone more outgoing and outspoken, he always remained the perfect picture of sweet. I know people tend to overemphasize the good in a person and magically forget all the bad things when they pass, but I truly think you'd be hard pressed to find ANYONE with a single bad word to say about Nick. There have been special memorials for him across the country these past few weeks (from LA to New York). He is forever well loved and respected.
As I said, I met him at one of many Goth/Punk/New Wave parties and clubs going on in Sacramento in the 80s (where his Mom, Evelyn and Stepdad, Dale, and Father, Jim "The Eagle" Bohn all still reside. His only sister, Debbie, lives in Santa Rosa). We had many mutual friends who all hung out at The Second Level, Danceteria, Clunie Hall, etc. It wasn't until the early to mid 1990s when life had pulled both of us individually to the enchanting city of San Francisco that we really bonded. I spent most of my time with him and his partner at the time, Enrique, doing photo shoots, going to drag clubs, watching movies, listening to music, going to parties, and working on different art projects. I am proud to say that I starred in two of Nick's films in 1993/1994, one was called "Bliss" and the other was the infamous "Little Red" (which also featured Jason Mecier of the SF band ENRIQUE and bean/noodle art fame, Brigit Brat of the band GOD'S GIRLFRIEND, Heidi Wesbrock (LA based actress/artist) and Enrique Vargas (SF based photographer/artist). Nick and Enrique also published/edited the San Francisco based ‘zines Dragzine and Dragstrip in the mid 1990s.
Besides photography and film-making, Nick also did many "scrapbook art" collections, performance art, and played bass for the band THE VOLUPTUOUS HORROR OF KAREN BLACK, and was a member of numerous other bands including VERBALALA and SPLIT ME WIDE OPEN (with Jon Vomit). Nick moved to New York around the time I moved to LA, which was sometime in the later 1990s. We stayed in touch via phone and e-mail and he even came out for a visit in the summer of 1999. He stayed with his

Road Back to the Frozen Four (69 minutes)
History
[edit]Partridge and his academy
The university was founded in 1819 at Norwich by military educator and former superintendent of West Point, Captain Alden B. Partridge. Captain Partridge believed in the "American System of Education," a traditional liberal arts curriculum with instruction in civil engineering and military science. After leaving West Point because of congressional disapproval of his system, he returned to his native state of Vermont to create the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy. Captain Partridge, in founding his academy, rebelled against the reforms of Sylvanus Thayer to prevent the rise of what he saw as the greatest threat to the security of the young republic: a professional officer class. He believed that a well-trained militia was an urgent necessity and developed the American system around that idea. His academy became the inspiration for a number of military colleges throughout the nation, including both the Virginia Military Institute and The Citadel, and later the land grant colleges created through the Morrill Act of 1862.[4]
Partridge's educational beliefs were considered radical at the time, and this led to his conflicting views with the federal government while he was the superintendent of West Point. Upon creation of his own school, he immediately incorporated classes of agriculture and modern languages in addition to the sciences, liberal arts, and various military subjects. Field exercises, for which Partridge borrowed cannon and muskets from the federal and state governments, supplemented classroom instruction and added an element of realism to the college’s program of well-rounded military education.
Partridge founded six other military institutions during his quest to reform the fledgling United States military. They were the Virginia Literary, Scientific and Military Academy at Portsmouth, Virginia (1839–1846), Pennsylvania Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy at Bristol, Pennsylvania (1842–1845), Pennsylvania Military Institute at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (1845–1848), Wilmington Literary, Scientific and Military Academy at Wilmington, Delaware (1846–1848), the Scientific and Military Collegiate Institute at Reading, Pennsylvania (1850–1854), Gymnasium and Military Institute at Pembroke, New Hampshire (1850–1853) and the National Scientific and Military Academy at Brandywine Springs, Delaware (1853).[5]
[edit]Fire and hardship: Norwich in the 19th century
In 1825 the academy moved to Middletown, Connecticut, to provide better naval training to the school's growing corps of cadets. In 1829, the state of Connecticut declined to grant Captain Partridge a charter and he moved the school back to Norwich (the Middletown campus became Wesleyan University in 1831). Beginning in 1826, the college offered the first program of courses in civil engineering in the US. In 1834 Vermont granted a charter and recognized the institution as Norwich University. During the 1856 academic year, the first chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity was founded by cadets Frederick Norton Freeman and Arthur Chase. With the beginning of the Civil War in 1861, Norwich cadets served as instructors of the state militias throughout the Northeast and the entire class of 1862 enlisted upon its graduation. Norwich turned out hundreds of officers and soldiers who served with the federal armies in the American Civil War, including four recipients of the Medal of Honor. One graduate led a corps, seven more headed divisions, 21 commanded brigades, 38 led regiments, and various alumni served in 131 different regimental organizations. In addition, these men were eyewitnesses to some of the war's most dramatic events, including the bloodiest day of the conflict at Antietam, the attack up Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg, and the repulse of Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg. Seven hundred and fifty Norwich men served in the Civil War, of whom sixty fought for the Confederacy.[6] Because of the university's participation in the struggle, the number of students dwindled to seven in the class of 1864 alone.
The Confederate raid on St. Albans, Vermont precipitated fear that Newport, Vermont was an imminent target. The corps quickly boarded an express train for Newport, the same day, October 19, 1864, to the great relief of the inhabitants.
After a catastrophic fire in 1866 which devastated the entire campus, the town of Northfield welcomed the struggling school. The Civil War, the fire, and the uncertainty regarding the continuation of the University seriously lowered the attendance, and the school opened in the fall of 1866 with only 19 students. The 1870s and 1880s saw many financially turbulent times for the institution and the renaming of the school to Lewis College in 1880. In 1881 the student body was reduced to only a dozen men. Later, by 1884, the Vermont Legislature had the name of the school changed back to Norwich. In 1898 the university was designated as the Military

Horrific scenes at Brazzavile Military Hospital- Republic of Congo- post explosions 12th March 2012
South African orthopaedic surgeons are working like car mechanics in the Republic of Congo to get the job done. They arrived under the premise that Brazzavile Military hospital was the best equipped in the country after the depot explosions last week which left thousands maimed. But the tools are rusty, they don't have sterilisers and time is running out. This morning (Monday) the first surgery was delayed because the hospital didn't have sterile scalpel blades, the most essential surgical tool. "We are working half speed compared to South African," said chief surgeon Johnny de Beer. "Poorly qualified nurses, having to improvise with tools and the language barrier is all slowing us down," he said. The local translators, mostly English language school teachers, have been thrown in the deep end handling everything from body searches to operation dialogue between patients and surgeons. One passed out during an amputation yesterday (Sunday). Amputations are vital on many patients' arms and legs as infections rapidly eat at their wounds, turning them septic yellow. Trauma doctor Rosanne Symons explained "First they draw with a marker pen where to cut. Then they tear through the skin and muscle using a scalpel, tying up the veins and nerve endings as they go." Once surgeons reach the bone they use a saw built for cutting wood ,and an industrial drill, till the bone can be separated by hand. "Many patients refuse amputations. They will die if we can't convince them that it is ...
