Top of the Rock - GE Building (Rockefeller) - NBC Studios - New York - August 2009
August 2009 - Rock Experience - GE Building Rockefeller Center - New York Tourist Attraction. Fast Elevator going up. NBC Studios including the Observation Deck and Welcome to the Rainbow Room Saturday Night Live (SNL) is filmed in this building. At the TOP you have a great view. The elevator takes you up to the 67th floor where you can take more escalators to the top deck. At the top you can see everything from the Empire State building, Chrysler building, Metlife, Central Park, Time Square, and even the Statue of Liberty.

Schindler 500A Shuttle Elevators at the GE Building Top of the Rock Observation Deck
These elevators serve floors 67, 69, 70 and a few of the other upper floors. You can take these elevators to any of the three observation deck floors if you don't want to take the escalator or the stairs. Notice the interesting buttons that they use. I also like how it has a two-speed door and a side door that is center opening two-speed.

Radio City Music Hall, GE Building, The LEGO Store, and The Original Soup Man (the Soup Nazi)
This is the second part of my video from Thursday August 18, 2011, which was my second day of sightseeing in New York City. This video shows my journey exploring Rockefeller Center, including Radio City Music Hall, The GE Building (aka 30 Rock), and The LEGO store. I also went to see McGee's Pub which is the bar that MacLaren's bar on How I Met Your Mother is based on. This video also shows my lunch at 'The Original Soup Man' which is the soup stand that the episode of Seinfeld, 'The Soup Nazi', is based on. I also went to see the studios where the Daily Show with Jon Steward and the Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert are taped. Check out my next video to see Carnegie Hall, CBS Building, Julliard School, The Ed Sullivan Theatre (Late Show with David Letterman theatre), Hello Deli, The Hudson River Bike Path and Riverside Park. Thanks for Watching! Please SUBSCRIBE!

Descending in the EPIC Schindler Elevator at the GE Building Top of the Rock Observation Deck
These elevators are epic. Period. Just like the Marriott Marquis, they were originally Westinghouse, but were modernized with Miconic 10 and Schindler European motors. These elevators run unbelievably smooth, quiet and swiftly. I love how you get to see clean up the shaft while quickly descending to the concourse level. Schindler also installed special projectors that create a light show and a presentation of the history of the building. Personally, I prefer these elevators over the Empire State Building.

69 Floors Up: Schindler Down Escalator at the GE Building Top of the Rock Observation Deck
Has anyone else been on a Schindler escalator over 690 feet in the air? Didn't think so! Also, when these escalators where installed, Schindler actually had to haul them up the elevator shaft pre-assembled. These were installed new by Schindler, and say "Schindler Elevator Corp." on a small metal plate to the side of the escalator.

Rockefeller Center
Recorded September 15, 2008. Rockefeller Center is a complex of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres between 48th and 51st streets in New York City. Built by the Rockefeller family, it is located in the center of Midtown Manhattan, spanning between Fifth Avenue and Seventh Avenue. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. It is the largest privately held complex of its kind in the world, and an international symbol of modernist architectural style blended with capitalism. The centerpiece of Rockefeller Center is the 70-floor, 872-foot GE Building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza ("30 Rock")—formerly known as the RCA Building—centered behind the sunken plaza. Unlike most other Art Deco towers built during the 1930s, the GE Building was constructed as a slab with a flat roof, where the Center's newly renovated observation deck, the Top of the Rock is located, which was first built in 1933. The $75 million makeover of the observation area was carried out by the Center's owner, Tishman Speyer Properties and was finally completed in 2005. It spans from the 67-70th floors and includes a multimedia exhibition exploring the history of the Center. On the 70th floor, reached by both stairs and elevator, there is a 20-foot wide viewing area, allowing visitors a unique 360-degree panoramic view of New York City. The video begins at the Empire State Building looking out on the GE Building. Before ascending to the "Top of the Rock" observation deck I walk around the beautiful ...

Panoramic views from the "Top of the Rock". See if you can spot swimming pool on a patio of one of the other buildings ;) Watch even more exciting and amazing videos here: www.youtube.com Rockefeller Center is a complex of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres (89000 m2) between 48th and 51st streets in New York City. Built by the Rockefeller family, it is located in the center of Midtown Manhattan, spanning the area between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. The centerpiece of Rockefeller Center is the 70-floor, 872-foot (266 m) GE Building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza ("30 Rock") - formerly known as the RCA Building - centered behind the sunken plaza. The building is the setting for the famous Lunchtime atop a Skyscraper photograph, taken by Charles C. Ebbets in 1932 of workers having lunch, sitting on a steel beam, without safety harnesses. The 840-foot (260 m) drop lies below. Building Jet Engines and the Birthplace of Flight (GE Flyovers)
Today's jet engines are powerful, beautiful, and allow modern planes to soar through the skies. However, when the first flight occurred at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina (the Birthplace of Flight) in 1903, that flight topped out at speeds of 6.8 MPH and lasted only 12 seconds. These modest stats do not reflect the majesty of the achievement. The grand tradition of North Carolina aviation that began at Kitty Hawk more than 100 years ago is alive and well today in West Jefferson, NC. This week, your votes sent us there to film inside a GE Aviation plant that specializes in making parts for use in commercial jet engines. Watch this video for a behind the scenes look at the assembly of one of the many precise components that are needed to build the engine in a modern airplane. Pick what behind the scenes look you want to see next by voting at www.facebook.com or www.generalelectric.tumblr.com and send our helicopter camera for a bird's eye view tour through one of our many GE Transportation and GE Aviation factories.
