Illinois (i/ˌɪlᵻˈnɔɪ/ IL-i-NOY) is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. It is the 5th most populous state and 25th largest state in terms of land area, and is often noted as a microcosm of the entire country. With Chicago in the northeast, small industrial cities and great agricultural productivity in central and northern Illinois, and natural resources like coal, timber, and petroleum in the south, Illinois has a diverse economic base and is a major transportation hub. The Port of Chicago connects the state to other global ports from the Great Lakes, via the Saint Lawrence Seaway, to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River, via the Illinois River. For decades, O'Hare International Airport has been ranked as one of the world's busiest airports. Illinois has long had a reputation as a bellwether both in social and cultural terms and politics.
Although today the state's largest population center is around Chicago in the northern part of the state, the state's European population grew first in the west, with French Canadians who settled along the Mississippi River, and gave the area the name, Illinois. After the American Revolutionary War established the United States, American settlers began arriving from Kentucky in the 1810s via the Ohio River, and the population grew from south to north. In 1818, Illinois achieved statehood. After construction of the Erie Canal increased traffic and trade through the Great Lakes, Chicago was founded in the 1830s on the banks of the Chicago River, at one of the few natural harbors on southern Lake Michigan.John Deere's invention of the self-scouring steel plow turned Illinois' rich prairie into some of the world's most productive and valuable farmlands, attracting immigrant farmers from Germany and Sweden. Railroads carried immigrants to new homes, as well as being used to ship their commodity crops out to markets.
Princeton is a city in and the county seat of Bureau County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,700 at the 2014 census.
Princeton is part of the Ottawa–Streator Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included within the Chicago-Naperville Combined Statistical Area. Due to its location where Interstate 80 meets the Amtrak system, as well as its well-preserved main street and historic housing stock, Princeton has become a popular satellite town for Chicagoland and the Quad Cities.
Bureau County was a New England settlement. The original founders of Princeton consisted entirely of settlers from New England. These people were "Yankees," descended from the English Puritans who settled New England in the 1600s. They were part of a wave of New England farmers who headed west into what was then the wilds of the Northwest Territory during the early 1800s. Most of them arrived as a result of the completion of the Erie Canal. When they arrived in what is now Bureau County there was nothing but a virgin forest and wild prairie, the New Englanders laid out farms, constructed roads, erected government buildings and established post routes. They brought with them many of their Yankee New England values, such as a passion for education, establishing many schools as well as staunch support for abolitionism. They were mostly members of the Congregationalist Church though some were Episcopalian. Culturally Bureau County, like much of northern Illinois, would be culturally very continuous with early New England culture, for most of its history. During the time of slavery, it was a stop on the Underground Railroad at the home of Owen Lovejoy.

Amtrak Nos. 4, 5 and 3 and a 100-car, westbound BNSF sand train stop or pass the Princeton, Illinois depot on an unseasonably warm February 20, 2016. Sand Train may be a U-EOLTUL (Unit Train, Eola IL to Tulsa OK), which would have originated at Wedron Silica on the Illinois Railway.
Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time... On 6-25-17, I arrived in Princeton, IL Amtrak station at 12:30, Amtrak 6 soon showed up, then 10 minutes after 6 left, BNSF sends QFXECHC (the one intermodal that runs on the Mendota subdivision) flying past the depot, then, not long after, BNSF MEOLGAL flies through on main 2 at track speed, and finally following right behind him, BNSF MBRCGAL makes his way through. I left at 1:30, surprised I saw more than one train in the time I was there. The Mendota subdivision is becoming very active again! Apologies for no tripod as it broke while railfanning in Galesburg.

Follow “The Loop,” the city’s primary business district, and marvel at its array of high-rise buildings, consulates, and universities. Shopping and fine dining abound in this area. World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Chicago - Illinois - USA Travel guide http://bit.ly/1gyob2p Chicago - Illinois Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation Often called the 'Windy City', Chicago is number one when it comes to culture, fine dining, shopping and commerce. This is the home of blues and jazz, where early masters like, Louis Armstrong, Jimmie Noone, Johnny Dodds, Earl Hines, and Jelly Roll Morton, honed their skills; the city where skyscrapers were born and now pierce the sky in their dozens, where trains found their centre and airlines soon followed. Chicago is undoubtedly one of the world's greatest, dynamic cities -- confident, thriving, innovative -- and yet it still offers buckets of genuine Midwestern friendliness. Situated on Lake Michigan, incomparable archite...

This year roughly 50 same-sex couples attended the event along with other families who are allowed full access to the sprawling south lawn. A Chicagoland couple Jaime Garcia and Daryl Rizzo and their daughter attended the event which brought more than 30,000 people from across the nation. In a statement from Equality IL Rizzo expressed the family’s excitement and stated, just as important is the opportunity to represent a new tradition for the American family, a loving same-sex household with an adored adopted child."
