The BBC Antiques Roadshow Series 28 - episode 11 - Chelsea Royal Hospital 2005. My Dad was asked to come along to a special edition of the Antiques Roadshow which was filmed at the Royal Hospital at Chelsea (the Chelsea Pensioners), aired in November 2005. Unfortunately this was broadcast just before my father was diagnosed with terminal Cancer. Gordon passed away on 29th December 2007. We still have these buttons in the family although none of us have connections to the Dicken's family. We hope to one day pass them onto an enthusiast of Charles Dickens. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol (1971 TV Special - HD)
Richard Williams' beautifully-executed adaptation of Charles Dickens' timeless seasonal parable, which to this day has yet to receive a DVD release anywhere. Produced by Richard Williams Animation and Chuck Jones for ABC. Winner of the 1972 Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. Sourced from a 16mm library print, it's unfortunately nowhere near the standard of 35mm : the sound is quite muffled in comparison to current YouTube uploads; but fortunately there's little print damage bar the vertical lines seen in the first few minutes. This is probably the last of the Williams uploads on this channel, although I'm currently trying to track down a copy of the 1991 UK promo for The Thief and the Cobbler screened before Highlander II in British theaters, which tested the waters for the film with the only trailer to this date that has been wholly approved by the film's director. It played to stunned audiences and garnered considerable acclaim (notably much more than the films it was shown alongside!), and supposedly contains additional footage unavailable elsewhere.

It's pretty cheap and isn't going to erase any memories of the superlative 1951 Alastair Sim version (or even the 1954 tv special with music by Bernard Herrmann), but it's a seldom-seen curiosity and this is the season for it. Price looks like he's in makeup for The Baron of Arizona. Look for Jill St. John as one of the Cratchet children under the name Jill Oppenheim. Not-So-Bleak-House: Rescuing Dickens's Reputation | Evening at FEE with Sarah Skwire
Characters like the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge and novels like the anti-industrial Hard Times have made the works of Charles Dickens something of a punching bag for friends of the free market, and this is understandable. But by allowing our opponents to focus on these parts of Dickens's work, we neglect his important agreement with free market principles on such issues as the power of innovation, the value of work, and the importance of personal financial responsibility, and we lose an important and persuasive ally in the process. To cherry-pick, on either side of the battle over markets, just the most ideologically appealing part of a writer's work is to do the work and the writer a great injustice, and this lecture will seek to offered a more balanced, more complex, and more economically sophisticated Dickens. Ray Jennings first of millions to replicate Dickens Mg-Cu-H2O battery -- water-powered AA
On June 6, 2012 Massachusetts attorney, and New Energy Systems Trust vice president, Ray Jennings, received his Magnesium rods (5 for $15 from GalliumSource.com). It took him about 15 minutes to assemble this 1.5.-volt battery by fastening a metal strip to the end of the Mg rod with a hose clamp; then fitting a piece of foam around the rod, then winding a copper wire loosely around that and setting the assembly in a bottle of tap water (no electrolyte). Adding electrolyte, while increasing amperage, greatly diminishes the life of the Mg. without electrolyte, the battery can last essentially indefinitely, maybe sanding every 9 months to remove some build-up on the electrodes. The battery powers a wall clock. (Note, in the video, Ray misread his meter. The actual voltage is around 1.3 V). A kindergartener could build this and afford to buy the parts needed.
