Kavishar group (Punjabi)
These "folk poets" of sorts, known as "kavishar," present a genre known as Kavishri. Alleged to have originated in the Malwa region of East Punjab, kavishri is an intoned poetic form (not really "music" per se) that has customarily been enjoyed as entertainment at such events as weddings and fairs. The present group, of Hardeep Singh and Party, is reciting a piece that comments ironically on Punjabi lifestyles. Performance occurred in Nov. 2004 in Patiala, Punjab.

Punjabi poet Shiv Kumar batalvi
Shiv Kumar Batalvi (born July 23, 1936[1] in Bara Pind Lohtian, Shakargarh Tehsil, Punjab [now Pakistan], died May 7, 1973 in Kir Mangyal (Pathankot), Punjab in India) was a Punjabi poet.Shiv Kumar Batalvi, a young man of barely 20 years of age, appeared on the scene of Punjabi poetry in East Punjab. By living a brief and intense life that was devoted to writing deeply profound, passionate and enchantingly lyrical poetic expressions of the pathos of his time, and dying young at the age of 36, a fate that he had predicted and romanticized throughout his poetry, he attained the charisma of a modern day saint and a fallen-hero in the eyes of many of his admirers.

Dr Israr Ahmad Jawab Deh Part 1 of 4
Dr.Israr Ahmed, born April 26, 1932, is a Pakistan-based Muslim religious figure who has been described as well-known among Muslims in Pakistan, India, the Middle East, and North America. Born in East Punjab, (now part of Haryana) in India, the second son of a government servant, he is the founder of the Tanzeem-e-islami, an off-shoot of the Jamaat-e-Islami. He currently has a daily show on Peace TV and on Quran TV. His supporters describe him as having spent the "last forty years" actively engaged in "reviving the Quran-centered Islamic perennial philosophy and world-view" with "the ultimate objective of establishing a true Islamic State, or the System of Khilafah." Dr Ahmed is skeptical of the efficacy of "parliamentary politics of give-and-take" in establishing an "Islamic politico-socio-economic system" as implementing this system is a "revolutionary process".

mein tainu yaad awan ga surinder kaur asa singh mastana punjabi folk pakistani indian urdu hindi songs music folk classical Surinder Kaur recorded so many (could not get the accurate number, but estimated approx 2000 based on what i have heard and read) songs in her life and not only she just sang, but also introduced culture of concerts in punjab. She had many golden hits including Lathe di chadar?, Suhe ve cheere valeya? and Kaala Doriya? . She also gave many duet performances with various singers. In August 1943, when she was 13, Kaur gave her first live performance on Lahore Radio, and the following year made her first record, along with her sister, for HMV. The duo soon became household names across the sectarian divide, and no Punjabi wedding was complete without their songs - played on hand-wound machines with mother and daughter as protagonists. In Punjabi culture, the departure of the newly wed daughter is always a heart-breaking scene, which from her familys side can only be seen as death before reincarnation. After the partition of India split the Punjab in 1947, Kaur moved to Delhi with her parents, and then to Bombay, the centre of the Hindustani film industry, working as a film playback singer until 1952. She then returned to Delhi and married Joginder Singh Sodhi, a lecturer in Punjabi literature at Delhi University: He was the one who made me a star, she recalled. He chose all the lyrics I sang and we both collaborated on compositions. They both travelled ...

Pakistan-U.S. Journalists Exchange
April 6, 2012
East-West Center
The United States and Pakistan share many common interests including the fight against terrorism. Yet, the relationship between them is strained with a trust deficit on both sides. Please join us for a luncheon presentation with Pakistani and US journalists as they reflect on this complicated relationship following their field visits to each other’s country.
EWC Senior Fellow Shabbir Cheema will provide a brief overview of U.S.- Pakistan relations, one of America's most important strategic relationships crucial to regional stability. Journalists participating in the EWC's Pakistan-U.S. Journalist Exchange will discuss the economic and political factors that influence U.S. engagement in Pakistan and the reaction of the Pakistani people to U.S. policy toward Pakistan.
The journalists from Pakistan represent print and broadcast media from throughout the country including Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Karachi, Islamabad, Punjab, and Lahore. The American journalists represent the Washington Post; San Francisco Chronicle; Christian Science Monitor; and PBS News Hour, and others. The journalists will have just returned from their study tour having met with key policy makers, and government and military officials in the two countries.
Co-sponsors: The East-West Center, Friends of the East-West Center, Pacific and Asian Affairs Council, Society of Professional Journalists, and the University of Hawai'i - School of Communications.

Synopsis of the Film: Two brave Indian families whose religions originated in the Middle East have risen above fear and strife and celebrated life with all its joy. Fayaz Ahmed, who left Kashmir in search of a better life in Delhi, has bravely returned to his homeland to celebrate the marriage of his daughter with full traditions without fear..
For Ezra Moses and his ancestors, Bombay was only meant to be an interim halt after their flight from Jerusalem in the aftermath of the destruction of the Second Temple. But over millennia, India has become their motherland who has given the Bene Israel a peace that history has rarely bestowed on the Jewish Diaspora anywhere in the world; a peace that cannot be shattered by any terrorist.
This is a story of how Ezra Moses and Fayaz Ahmad, both Indians and yet both descendents of the Biblical Abraham, one a Jew and the other a Muslim, shrugged off their fear and raised their heads in bravery to brush aside the machinations of the Pakistan based terrorist mafia so as to celebrate their own freedom in an expression of joy and happiness by marrying off their children.
Ezra's son Yuval married Celina on January 25th 2009 in Bombay and Fayaz's daughter Maina married Hussain on 25th June, 2009 in Srinagar.
