The complete film of 'We Are the Lambeth Boys' is available to buy on the BFI DVD 'Free Cinema' - filmstore.bfi.org.uk "A good evening for young people is much the same as it has always been", the voiceover informs us, attempting to get audiences to think back to their own youth before judging the teenager of the day. Karel Reisz's fantastic film was shot over six months at a "not typical" youth club (ie actually very good) in Lambeth. The biggest change from today would almost certainly be that nearly all of these teens work for a living, making evenings with friends the only time in which they can express themselves. Dressed in suits and ties, or best dresses, they seem somehow to be simultaneously older and younger than their years. Watch as the camera fixes on faces as they observe each other, ultimately making the voiceover unnecessary. When he was younger, Robert Lindsay starred as Bill Snibson in the UK production of 'Me and My Girl' with Emma Thompson. It was so successful that it opened on Broadway, again starring Robert Lindsay, this time with Mary Ann Plunkett. It won three Tony Awards, including Best Actor. On 9 November 2012 the Right Reverend Justin Welby, Bishop of Durham, was announced as the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury. In his opening statement at Lambeth Palace, Bishop Justin said he was "astonished and excited" to be taking over from Dr Rowan Williams, who stands down as Archbishop at the end of December. Acknowledging the many challenges faced by the Church, he said it will be a privilege to lead the Church "at a time of great spiritual hunger".

Rudi Dreyer - In Lambert's Nachtlokal (The Lambeth Walk), Electrola 1938 Hans Rehmstedt' orchestra was one of those great German dance bands, who never gave up their heroic attempts to play swing in Berlin in the end of 1930s., when the plaques with the gothic-letter warning: „Swing tanzen verboten!" were hanging in front of the gateways to many dance halls and clubs. This is why the „Lambeth Walk" - great European hit of 1938, has been recorded under the German pseudonim „In Lambert's Nachtlokal" - to hide it from the all-seeing eyes of the Nazi-Reichskulturkammer cenzors. "The Lambeth Walk" is a song from the 1937 musical Me and My Girl (with book and lyrics by Douglas Furber and L. Arthur Rose and music by Noel Gay). The song takes its name from an unremarkable street[1] in Lambeth, an area of London, England. "The Lambeth Walk" has the distinction of being the subject of a headline in The Times in October 1938: "While dictators rage and statesmen talk, all Europe dances — to The Lambeth Walk." The choreography from the musical, in which the song was a show-stopping Cockney-inspired extravaganza, inspired a popular walking dance, done in a jaunty, strutting style. The craze reached Buckingham Palace, with King George and Queen Elizabeth attending a performance and joining in the shouted "Oi" which ends the chorus. In early 1939 the Nazi Party declared the Lambeth Walk "Jewish mischief and animalistic hopping". In 1942 ...

This film short is called "Lambeth Walk - Nazi Style" and was made by Charles A. Ridley in 1941. He re-edited existing footage of Hitler and Nazi soldiers (taken from the propaganda film "Triumph of the Will") to make it appear they were marching and dancing to "The Lambeth Walk". He used the music because members of the Nazi party had called the tune "Jewish mischief and animalistic hopping". The re-edit was distributed uncredited to newsreel companies in the US and UK. Made 60+ years before YouTube, it is regarded as one of the first political remix videos.
