AVE MARIA (Bach/Gounod) -- Anna Moffo: Dazzling!
This exquisite rendition of the technically challenging Gounod "Ave Maria" is simply the best. Anna Moffo, justly known as 'La Splendissima,' was never better! It took years of searching to find this recording. Having heard scores of other versions (while searching for this one), I can state that this is simply the best.

RACHMANINOFF: Vocalise, Op. 34, No. 14; STOKOWSKI Anna Moffo
Passing Through: www.youtube.com - Friends, Please visit my Poet friend "Passing Through's" YouTube channel: www.youtube.com , and support him - Thanks :) Vocalise, Op. 34 No. 14 is a song by Sergei Rachmaninoff, published in 1912 as the last of his Fourteen Songs, Opus 34. Written for voice (soprano or tenor) with piano accompaniment, it contains no words, and is usually sung entirely to the vowel "ah". It was dedicated to soprano Antonina Nezhdanova. Although the original publication stipulates that the song may be sung by either soprano or tenor voice, it is virtually never performed by a tenor as the male voice's range (an octave lower than a soprano) would sound very odd in relation to the piano accompaniment. The range of the piece is high, going up to a high C-sharp (although Rachmaninoff offers an alternative version which only reaches high A). Conducted by: Leopold Stokowski; Featuring Anna Moffo (We appreciate Wikipaedia's contributions in the descriptions here)

Anna Moffo sings "Salce, salce" from Verdi's Otello. Because the scene is so long, I had to split it between "Salce, Salce" and "Ave, Maria".

The "Una voce poco fa" Contest - Anna Moffo
Not many arias become legendary: "Di quella pira", "Largo al factorium", "Sempre libera", "La donna e mobile", "Laschia ch'io pianga" are only a few examples. Rossini's most famous piece for the human voice surely was "Una voce poco fa". The great "divalegacy.com" website lists about 30 versions of the aria, but the list goes on forever, so famous the song has become. Recently I have checked my opera collection and found out that I have 20+ versions of the air, so I decided that it was high time I hosted a contest/survey. I give you ten renditions of the aria, and you, the viewer, vote (the system is quite simple: the marks range from 1 to 5; there are two categories: singing/characterization; so your mark (+ comment :-) ) should look like this: */*). First up is the stunning Anna Moffo. PS I decided to put up only some of the renditions, I will try to download more versions in the next month.

Spargi d'amaro - Lucia Contest - Anna Moffo
Once again I have put togehter a sample of Operas finest sopranos singing the most popular of all coloratura anthems Lucia di Lammermoor! This selection is from the mad scene, and WOW, I would have loved to upload the complete mad scene for each soprano, but thats not possible for this contest. So we have the wonderful Spargi d'amaro, I hope everyone enjoys these videos. I have included Dessay's Lucie (the French revision) even though it is the only video sung in the original key and therefore Dessay forgoes the final high note (I think it would be an F in this case.) I am going to follow tradition here and use a score of 1-5 for two catagories singing/characterization. Here are the singers I have included and the dates of the performances: Joan Sutherland - 1961 Anna Moffo - 1959 Beverly Sills - 1971 Luciana Serra - 1980 Edita Gruberova - 1995 June Anderson - 1995 Dimitra Theodossiou - 1999 Mariella Devia - 2004 Anna Netrebko - 2000 Natalie Dessay - 2002 Patrizia Ciofi - 2006

Anna Moffo (1932-2006) Born in Wayne, Pennsylvania, Moffo was an Italian-American lyric-coloratura soprano admired for her warm, radiant voice and her beautiful stage presence. Here Moffo sings 'Caro Nome' from Verdi's Rigoletto. This version, unfourtunately, does not include her E6. Rate, and comment. Thanks.

Richard Tucker / Anna Moffo - Brindisi (Traviata)
Sorry for an extremely belated happy 76th birthday (27 June) to La Splendissima, Anna Moffo. The Brindisi (Libiamo, libiamo ne'lieti calici), from Traviata, sung by Richard Tucker and Anna Moffo in a studio recording (Stereo)...while Tucker is not particularly known for his interpretation in the role of Alfredo, he was capable (despite his colossal voice) of very lyrical, warm and beautiful singing needed for the role; needless to say, he does far more than a fantastic job here. What to say about Moffo? Simply put, the best Violetta there ever was.

Anna Moffo - Signore ascolta! (Live)
Anna Moffo (1932-2006) Born in Wayne, Pennsylvania, Moffo was an Italian-American lyric-coloratura soprano admired for her warm, radiant voice and her beautiful stage presence. Here she sings 'Signore ascolta!' in a live performance of Puccini's Turandot. This is from one of the 1961 live Met recordings with Moffo, Nilsson, and Corelli...in my opinion the best cast for Turandot ever made. A simply breathtaking rendition...the best, along with Caballe's, to my ears.
