PM doubts CAG's coal block allocation report - NewsX
PM Manmohan Singh today addressed the Parliament over coal blocks allocation scam, amid shouting by BJP members. In his statement he said, "I wish to say that any allegation of impropriety is without any basis and unsupported by facts. Observations of the CAG are clearly disputable. The policy existed since 1993 and previous govts also allocated blocks in precisely the manner that the CAG has now criticised. I wish to assure the country that we have a strong and credible case." He said that he takes full responsibility for decisions of Coal Ministry whose charge was with him during the period assessed by CAG. For more log on to www.newsx.com

Govt targets CAG on 2G figures
After the flop 2G spectrum auction that yielded only Rs.9407 crore, Government and the Congress on Thursday (November 15) questioned the Comptroller and Auditor General's estimated loss of Rs.1.76 lakh crore in the spectrum allocation of 2001, drawing fire from the opposition. Information and Broadcasting minister Manish Tewari led the government attack by asking CAG Vinod Rai as to why the spectrum auction had not yielded anything close to the loss it had estimated.

The Neshour Debate: CAG Vinod Rai versus government - Part 1 of 3
Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai's statement that the brazenness in government's decision making is appalling has erupted into a major political storm. The CAG on Wednesday (November 7) criticised the government and sought constitutional status for agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to make them effective instruments for fighting corruption. Reacting to Rai's remarks, the Congress has hit back saying that if he talked about brazenness in decision making, then questions could be raised about the time when he was in the same government. Now the question has risen whether Rai, whose reports on irregularities in coal block allocations and 2G telecom spectrum had created a major political storm, is right in demanding that the CBI and the CVC be freed of government control, or whether he has just touched a raw nerve. In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi ,MP, Rajya Sabha, Congress; Dr Chandan Mitra, Editor-in-Chief, The Pioneer & MP, Rajya Sabha, BJP; Amitabh Mukhopadhyay, Former Director General, CAG and TSR Subramaniam, Former Cabinet Secretary -- debate whether the CAG is right in saying that without a constitutional mandate, the CBI and CVC cannot function independently.
