My Vipassana experience
I decided to take the plunge and go on this 10-day silent meditation course as a result of watching a video on Youtube about it, so I thought the decent thing to do when I had finished the course, was to record my own experience. -- Edited on 17 April 2012: Lots of people have asked how my practice is going after nearly 4 years - firstly, thanks for caring! It's hard to keep it up every day, but the essence of what I learned whilst in the retreat has stayed with me since then - I often say to myself 'anicca' when things in life seem out of control. It's a better way to live and to love. I have since created something which enables myself and others take time out each day to write a short poem. The project is sitting on haikuary.com and is invitation only. As you're here and are already part of my journey, then I would like to extend an invitation to you. Please email vipassana [ at ] haikuary.com and I shall reply with your personal invitation to the project. Thank you, Gavin

Healing, not merely the curing of diseases, but the essential healing of human suffering, is its purpose. Missing Steps in Goenka Vipassana
www.VipassanaNewWorld.org "making vipassana functional and accessible for everyday people for calmness of mind and healthy, relaxed bodies." "Relax, Smile, and Return to your 'object of meditation'." Repeat. Practice all day long, throughout all activities, and whenever you get stuck in thought and drift out of your meditation. Accept, be peaceful with yourself, forgive the way your body mind has been working. In time, you balance deeper and deeper until your external life mirrors the peace inside of you. such is our training. Vipassana Meditation Short Intro
A short video from www.dhamma.org about the observation of breath and bodily sensations in the technique of vipassana meditation. The entire practice is actually a mental training. Just as we use physical exercises to improve our bodily health, Vipassana can be used to develop a healthy mind. Because it has been found to be genuinely helpful, great emphasis is put on preserving the technique in its original, authentic form. It is not taught commercially, but instead is offered freely. No person involved in its teaching receives any material remuneration. There are no charges for the courses - not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the opportunity to benefit from it also. Of course, the results come gradually through continued practice. It is unrealistic to expect all problems to be solved in ten days. Within that time, however, the essentials of Vipassana can be learned so that it can be applied in daily life. The more the technique is practiced, the greater the freedom from misery, and the closer the approach to the ultimate goal of full liberation. Even ten days can provide results which are vivid and obviously beneficial in everyday life. All sincere people are welcome to join a Vipassana course to see for themselves how the technique works and to measure the benefits. Vipassana Courses are even being conducted in ...

Commentaries Vs. the Suttas - Which is Right? Bhante Vimalaramsi -- Indonesian Temple.
Here, in this excellent talk, Venerable Bhante Vimalaramsi talks about the differences between Burmese Vipassana practice which is based on commentarial works like the Vissudhi Magga and his more recent discovery of what the Suttas teach. In 1999 he ended 20 years of Vipassana and decided that he still had not found "it". This after 22 hr/day retreats of up to 2 yrs in length with the most famous meditation teachers in the world. In Sri Lanka, a monk said throw out everything he has learned and go back and read the Suttas (Majjhima Nikaya, Samyutta Nikaya) and follow them exactly. There you will find what the Buddha taught, but you must read them with no preconceptions. In this talk to at the Indonesian Temple, in California, he explains what he found and his subsequent meditation practice.
