Processing Angora Goat Mohair Wool
Design Spun are a processing plant of the goat wool fibre known as mohair. They put the wool through several processes to produce a finished article that is a high quality, strong and colourful fabric. "Design spun processes a wide range of mohair wool through from the young goat to the strong adult, it really depends what fibre is required for what end product. A lot of our production is based on mohair wool, on mohair fibre and we certainly think there's some good opportunities and some good prospects for mohair as a fibre and as an end product as well." Do It Yourself: Raising Angora Goats
This is the VOA Special English Agriculture Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Has anyone ever tried to get your goat? To "get your goat" is an expression. It means to make you mad. A good friend might tell you: "Don't worry about what that person said. He was just trying to get your goat." But there are plenty of good reasons to get a goat -- and not just for milk or meat. The animals can help control weeds. They can be friendly with children and adults. And they can make money with their hair. Cashmere goats produce cashmere. Angora goats produce -- no, not angora. Angora fiber comes from rabbits. Angora goats produce mohair. Mohair is used to make clothing, carpets and other products. The goats came from the Anatolian plains. Their name comes from the Turkish city of Ankara. The Mohair Council of America says the first Angora goats arrived in the United States in eighteen forty-nine. Seven females and two males were imported. Today the United States is one of the world's leading producers of mohair. The other top sources are South Africa and Turkey. Ninety percent of the mohair from the United States comes from Texas. An adult Angora can produce as much as seven kilograms of hair each year. The value of the coat depends on the age, size and condition of the goat. As Angoras get older, their hair becomes thicker and less valuable. The goats need their mother's milk for the first three or four months. They reach full maturity at about two years. But even then they ...

Pygora Goat - Funny White Goat - Angora+Pygmy, Funny Animal. Portland Oregon Zoo
The Pygora goat is a breed that originated from crossing the registered NPGA Pygmy goat and the white AAGBA Angora goat. This king of goats produce three distinct kinds of fleece. The Pygora goats are fiber goats along with the Angora goat and the Cashmere goat. The Pygora goats was a purposeful cross, bred by Katharine Jorgensen of Oregon City, Oregon. In 1987, the Pygora Breeders Association was formed in the USA, and has since then been registering and promoting Pygora goats. Now, the registered Pygora goat may not be more than 75% AAGBA-registered Angora goat or 75% NPGA-registered Pygmy goat. This video was made by me in Oregon Portland Zoo, USA. This video is good both for children and adults.

Angora Goat - TurkishAnimals DCA
The Angora goat (Turkish: Ankara keçisi) is a breed of domestic goat that originated in Ankara and its surrounding region in central Anatolia, in present-day Turkey. This breed is first mentioned in the time of Moses, roughly 1500 BC The first Angora goats were brought to Europe by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, about 1554, but, like later imports, were not very successful. Angora goats were first introduced in the United States in 1849 by Dr. James P. Davis. Seven adult goats were a gift from Sultan Abdülmecid I in appreciation for his services and advice on the raising of cotton. More goats were imported over time until the Civil War destroyed most of the large flocks in the south. Eventually, angora goats began to thrive in the southwest, particularly in Texas, wherever there are sufficient grasses and shrubs to sustain them. Texas to this day remains the largest mohair producer in the US, and second largest in the world.

World's largest Angora goat herd?
Driving through the Karoo on a hot January day, I came across this enormous herd of Angora goats which stretched for 3.2 kms and numbered around 33000. This entire operation was controlled by a solitary Border Collie and two goat herders. Could this be the biggest Angora goat herd in the world?
