Tata BP Solar - Enlightening Lives
The name Ladakh conjures an image of a land of many passes. It nestles in the trans Himalayan region bordered by Pakistan and Tibet at heights of 2600 to 7000 m above sea level. Ladakh receives less than 100 mm of rainfall in a year and is a high altitude cold desert region with temperatures dropping to -40 degrees Celsius. Home to an estimated 170000 people who live in remote villages and hamlets, it is completely cut off from the outside world for more than 5 months in a year. More than half the villages and hamlets are accessible by foot, up to 3 days walking from nearest motorable point. As other energy forms were unviable, Solar was the natural choice, considering that Ladakh is blessed with sunshine for more than 300 days in a year. Watch the video to discover how Tata BP Solar transformed the lives of the inhabitants of Ladakh, bringing light and hope to their doorstep.....

Is US Shipping Green Jobs Overseas?
Is the US shipping green jobs overseas? We took a quick look at the destruction of a recently expanded manufacturing plant that created solar panels. The plant had been working steadily in Maryland for 30 years and recently had to shut its doors. The question is why? With the new initiatives and calling for Green Energy by the Obama administration you would think that these kinds of established jobs should have multiplied rather than be eliminated. Needless to say Federal and local regulations in Frederick Maryland helped cause a negative business climate in which BP sent their jobs elsewhere. Looking at how much it costs in terms of government subsidies to create these jobs, the United States is following the example of Spain, in which for every green job created, another 2 jobs are lost in separate fields due to taxation. If the Administration was serious about green jobs then they should allow the free market to help allocate resources rather than creating a glut of solar products which lowers prices and kills jobs. Shot on location in Frederick Maryland Update: This was shot and edited well before the Oil spill in the gulf, so stop emailing us about energy theories please. We appreciate the enthusiasm but these two situations are unrelated.

David Carlson, "Photovoltaics and Its Potential Impact on Climate Change," ECE Lecturer Series
David Carlson received a BS from RPI in 1963 and a Ph.D. from Rutgers in 1968. He then worked as a R&D; Physicist at the US Army Nuclear Effects Laboratory, and served as a Captain in charge of 110 men at a communications site in Vietnam. In 1970, he joined RCA where he received Outstanding Achievement Awards. He invented the amorphous silicon solar cell in 1974 and was the first to demonstrate that hydrogenated amorphous silicon could be used to form a semiconductor junction. For this work, he received the Ross Coffin Purdy Award of the American Ceramic Society. In 1983, he joined Solarex (merged into BP Solar in 1999) as the Director of Research and Deputy GM of the Thin Film Division; he is currently the Chief Scientist and the Manager of Future Technology Programs. He has received numerous awards for his pioneering work and leadership in photovoltaics, including the IEEE Morris N. Liebmann Award, the Franklin Institute's Walton Clark Medal, the William R. Cherry Award, and the Karl W. Boer Medal (from the Inter. Solar Energy Society and the Univ. of Delaware). He is also a Fellow of the IEEE.

BNL - LIPA Solar Farm
(Upton, NY)- Officials from the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), BP Solar International, Inc. (BP Solar), Brookhaven National Laboratory and a host of government officials and environmental leaders today celebrated the completion and commissioning of the Long Island Solar Farm (LISF) Project. Owned by BP Solar and Met Life, the LISF installation is part of the largest solar energy project in the state of New York, the largest photovoltaic array in the eastern US, and among the largest in the nation constructed on federal property. The 32-megawatt (MW) LISF, which is made up of 164312 solar panels hosted at the US Department of Energy's (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory, also boasts the smallest footprint for a solar array of its output, further solidifying Long Island as a national leader in clean, renewable energy. "I am pleased with the collaboration between the Long Island Power Authority and Brookhaven National Lab," Senator Kenneth P. LaValle said. "The blueprint for our nation's energy future -- green energy -- and the jobs and new businesses it will create is being tested and implemented right here in the First Senate District." Co-owned by BP Solar and MetLife through Long Island Solar Farm LLC, LISF will introduce approximately 50 gigawatt-hours per year of clean, Long Island-based renewable energy into LIPA's electric grid. This amount of solar energy is equivalent to the electrical consumption of roughly 4500 households. Additionally, the project will ...

10kw Ground Mount Solar System Victoria.wmv
This 10kw Ground Mount System was installed as two independant 5kw systems together. Each 5kw SMA inverter is loaded with 30 x 165w BP solar panels. The system should produce around 42kw/h of power every day which is enought to power 2 average to large homes.
