The Worldwatch Institute works through its research, outreach and on-the-ground projects to speed up the shift to an environmentally sustainable world that meets human needs. Founded in 1974, Worldwatch is an independent think and impact tank that impartially analyzes critical environmental and development problems and proposes innovations, policies and changes in individual behavior that address those problems. The Institute's publications—notably the series State of the World published annually since 1984—are published in dozens of languages. Their work gains comparable U.S. and global attention from policymakers and the news media, with broadcast and press clippings surpassing 500 in 2010 and 2011.
The institute works primarily though not exclusively in three program areas. The programs prioritize access to low-carbon energy and nutritious food for all, action on gender and population rooted in human rights, and transformative cultural and economic change.

Connecting Family Planning and the Environment: Interview With Robert Engelman, Worldwatch Institute
Meeting the reproductive health needs of women and ensuring environmental sustainability by linking family planning with environment programs has proven to be a "win-win" strategy. Yet this link has often been seen as controversial or viewed as irrelevant to environmental policymaking. In this interview, Robert Engelman, president of Worldwatch Institute, discusses how family planning can benefit the environment, why the perceived gap between population and environmental concerns persists, and how to bridge the gap.
PRB informs people around the world about population, health and the environment, and empowers them to use that information to advance the well-being of current and future generations. Find out more about PRB at our website, www.prb.org.

========================================================
Since its founding, IFCE has developed a range of influential programs facilitating partnerships and building capacity in China's environmental movement. Specifically, it works with: 1) companies and other NGO's to improve China's access to green information technology; 2) policy makers to influence China's environmental policy; and grassroots environmental organizations and environmental education programs to improve Chinese peoples' involvement in the national and global environmental movement.
In 2002, IFCE was named one of several significant global environmental organizations by the United Nations. IFCE has been able to play a significant role in protecting the environment because of its numerous experts in the natural and social sciences. The IFCE staff not only have a profound understanding of Chinese culture, they also have many professional connections within China.
The Worldwatch Institute is a globally focused environmental research organization based in Washington, D.C. Haibing Ma is the China Program Manager and Chief Representative in China for the organization. Worldwatch was named as one of the top ten sustainable development research organizations by Globescan Survey of Sustainability Experts. The Worldwatch Institute is an independent research organization recognized by opinion leaders around the world for its accessible, fact-based analysis of critical global issues. The Institute's three main program areas include Climate & Energy, Food & Agriculture, and the Green Economy.
When founded in 1974, Worldtwatch was the first research institute devoted to the analysis of global environmental issues. The Institute's interdisciplinary research is based on the best available science and focuses on the challenges that climate change, resource degradation, and population growth pose for meeting human needs in the 21st century. Worldwatch seeks innovative solutions to intractable problems, emphasizing a blend of government leadership, private sector enterprise, and citizen action that can make a sustainable future a reality.
