Emperor Francis Joseph I
Francis Joseph I of the House of Hapsburg was the Emperor of Austria from 1848 to 1916. From 1867 he also reigned seperately as King of Hungary following the adoption of "dualism" and the creation of Austria-Hungary. A widely respected figure he remains one of the longest reigning monarchs in European history being on the Hapsburg throne for 68 years. A very upright, dutiful and hardworking monarch he saw his people through good times and bad and endured many personal tragedies. Through all of the turmoil, wars and changes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries he was a rock of stability to his people. He died in 1916 in the midst of World War I and so, perhaps thankfully, did not live to see the final disaster of the collapse of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire.

Johann Strauss II - Habsburg Hoch! - Marsch, Op. 408
In 1273 Count Rudolph of Habsburg acceded to the throne of Germany. Through force of arms he acquired certain territories including Austria and Styria and, seeking to strengthen his own 'Hausmacht' (dynastic power), as Emperor he bestowed these territories upon his two sons, Albert and Rudolph, on 27 Dicernber 1282. Thus began the association between the House of Habsburg and Austria, which was to exist until 1918. 27 Dicernber 1882 -- 'Habsburg Day' -- was marked by celebrations throughout Austria, including a festive evening in Vienna's Carl-Theater. Between a prologue by Josef Weyl and the première of Ludwig Anzengruber's comedy, Die umkehrte Freit, Johann Strauss conducted the first performance of his march Habsburg Hoch! The work, written to mark 'the 600 years Commernoration of the most Illustrious House of Habsburg', features snatches from Haydn's Austrian Hymn, the Prinz Eugen-Lied and Strauss Father's Radetzky-Marsch. Otto von Habsburg letztes Interview.mov
Otto von Habsburg spricht über seine Mutter, Kaiserin Zita, und über die unehrenhaften Bedingungen, die ihm die Republik für die Rückkehr nach Österreich stellte. Otto von Habsburg talks about his mother, Empress Zita, and about the undignified conditions under which the Republic of Austria let him return to the country, for which he had done so much. He calles it a shame and remarks that the Republic would have given the House of Habsburg back their property if Otto had stayed out. Neither he nor his brothers wanted such a shameful deal. So Otto had to declare his "egression from the House of Habsburg and all rights on the throne" to be allowed to come back. This declareation was a shame from the side of the Republic but Otto paid the price to be able to play his European political role.

The Austrian Hapsburgs
The Holy Roman and Austrian Emperors of the House of Hapsburg from Kaiser Ferdinand I to the present-day heirs to the Hapsburg throne, Archduke Otto and his son Archduke Charles. Ferdinand I inherited the Austrian half of the Hapsburg domain from his brother the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V who was also King Carlos I of Spain. The Holy Roman Empire was abolished during the Napoleonic Wars with the last Emperor-Elect, Francis II, becoming Emperor Francis I of Austria. Later the Empire of Austria became the Dual-Monarchy of Austria-Hungary. This venerable monarchy finally came to an end in 1918 following the defeat of World War I. The last monarch was the Blessed Emperor Charles I (who was beaitified by Pope John Paul II) who tried on two occasions to regain his throne as King of Hungary but was unsuccessful. Since then the Hapsburgs have continued to work for some king of political body in the tradition of the idea of a "United States of Greater Austria" which was floated before the First World War. Gott Erhalte Unser Kaiser!

DRESDEN ALTSTADT: City Of History
Dresden is the capital of Saxony and royal residence of its Electors and Kings.
When Frederick August II "The Strong”, converted to Catholicism to become King of Poland, he established Dresden as a capital of the arts and built palaces in Dresden and Warsaw.
Altstadt (old city) is famous for its Baroque and Rococo architecture dating the 18th and 19th centuries. In The Second World War Dresden shared the fate of other historical cities like Warsow and Rotterdam and was destroyed extensively during the polemic allied bombing of February 13th in 1945. The Soviet occupation rebuilds part of the city with soviet style buildings. From the last two decades the city has been reconstructed, regaining the glory of former times.
Semperoper Opera House originally built by the architect Gottfried Semper in 1841. After a devastating fire in 1869, the opera house was rebuilt, partly again by Semper, and completed in 1878. The opera house has a long history of premieres, including major works by Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss. The building, an example o Baroque architecture was destroyed in the 1945 Dresden bombing and was reconstructed exactly 40 years later, on February 13, 1985.
Frauenkirche is Dresden´s main symbol. It is a Lutheran church originally erect in 1743 designed by Georg Bähr (1666-1738) one of the masters of Baroque. It had a majestic pipe organ built by Gottfried Silbermann (1683-1753) in which Johann SebastianBach (1685-1750) played a recital. One of its main features is the distinctive bell shaped dome weighting 12.000 tons, an engineering achievement at the time. Frauenkirche resisted a vast shell bombardment of the prussian army during the seven years war (1756–1763) but collapse almost in its entirely in 1945, two days after 1945 the bombing, due to firebombs. The reconstruction work finally took place from 1993 to 2005.
Zwinger is a 19th century palace built in Rococo style designed by court architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann where former part of the Dresden fortress was located. Sculpture was provided by Balthasar Permoser. The Zwinger was formally inaugurated in 1719 on the occasion of the electoral prince Frederick August’s marriage to the daughter of the Habsburg emperor, the Archduchess Maria Josepha.
Katholiche Hofkirche is a roman catholic church designed by architect Gaetano Chiaveri from 1738 to 1751, commissioned by Frederick Augustus II, in order to counterbalance the Protestant Frauenkirche. It its crypt rests the heart of King August the Strong. It suffered great damage in the 1945 bombing but was restored in the 1980´s.
Fürstenzug (the procession of princes) is one the largest tile mural painted between 1871 and 1876 to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Wettin Dynasty. Replaced with 23.000 tiles of Missen Porcelain tiles between 1904 and 1907, it is known as the largest porcelain artwork in the world. The mural displays the ancestral portraits of the 35 margraves, electors, dukes and kings of the House of Wettin between 1127 and 1904. The Fürstenzug is 101.9 metres (334 ft) long and 10.5 metres (34 ft) high.
Schloßplatz (palace square) dates from the 15th century. The seated sculpture of Frederick Augustus I "The Righteous" by Ernst Rietschel now stand on the site of the old Albert statue. This monument had been located at the Dresden Zwinger since 1843, and later was moved to the Japanisches Palais. It rests in its final place since 2008.
Brühlsche Terrace nicknamed "The Balcony of Europe" facing the Elbe. The name Brühl's Terrace is a reference to Count Heinrich von Brühl, Minister of Elector Frederick Augustus II, who from 1737 had a city palace with a gallery, a library and adjacent gardens built on the location. In 1747 the whole terrace was given to him by the Saxon elector as a gift for the innovative introduction of a betterment tax. It is one of the city´s main views.

Laban´s Nightmare (by 1n0ut)
VideoExcerpt of the Projection Screen of the Live Media Performance "Laban´s Nightmare" by 1n0ut
http://www.1n0ut.com/
Developed during PARKINPROGRESS August 2012 in Pannonhalma (HU), by 1n0ut (Robert Praxmarer / Reinhold Bidner (AT), Dance: Virág Arany (HU)
Laban´s Nightmare is a live generated Media Dance Performance by 1n0ut, which was developed during PARKINPROGRESS August 2012 in Pannonhalma – HU. Basically it is a Pas de Deux between a real dancer and its virtual counterpart, projected onto a screen.
The Question of singularity is an important impulse in our work, what happens if our being is analyzed and reproduced by machines and if our human patterns are being processed in a new way to develop a post-human creature? What happens at that point, can a live generated algorithm pretend creativity due to a cut up and a new synthesis of human movement- and body-samples?
One of the aspects of „Laban´s Nightmare „was the goal to incorporate some of the ideas of famous dance theorist Rudolf Laban, who came up with the Labanotation, a dancenotation which tries to depict and documentate the energetics and dynamics of the movement of a dancer (based on indiviual improvisation), and in our project we tried to transfer this onto a Live-generated Projection. In addition Rudolf Laban was an interesting element for that Project for the following reasons:
1) he is Austro-Hungarian, and we, as Austrians, were invited to Hungary to work on that Piece and
2) he was way ahead of his time and crossed topics (in the 20s/30s) that are quite similar to some of the topics we work on/or try to deliver with our audiovisual Live Shows: he was very interested in Improvisation and emotional experiences, in space and rhythm and tried to find parallels in mathematics and dance (e. g. in form of the Ikosaeder). Furthermore he was interested in the movements of Industrial workers and of mentally ill persons. Many of these elements were highly inspiring for our Dance&Technology-based; project.
Furthermore we just wanted to be open and intuitive concerning
a) the location and its surroundings, which was in that case the beautiful Park of the Arch-Abbey of Pannonhalma, Hungary (Otto Habsburg´s Heart is being kept there): somehow and in an intuitive way the spiritual, superior, beautiful but also dark-gloomy athmosphere inspired Audio and Visual of our piece, and
b) for the inputs of our dancer: we considered this collaboration as a back and forth of ideas and fragments in various disciplines, the best of these ideas and fragments were incorporated in the piece,
Basically "Laban´s Nightmare" is about our ongoing questions in Dance and Technology, which refer to topics such as individual and mass, Reality and Virtuality, art and science, human and digital intuition, digital real time image creation based on the movements of a dancer.
Concening the setup on location, our dancer Virág Arany was dancing next to the huge Projection Screen and formed a dyptichon with it. What you see on the video, is a VideoExcerpt of the outcome on the Projection Screen (we filmed)
For our project we have a very intuitive tech-setup, which is based on Roberts self written C++ Software and a Kinect Camera/Interface which provides us 1) an RGB Camera Image and 2) a 3D Representation of the Dancer. So the dancer is confronted with his/her virtual mirror, which can be transformed/distorted in various ways via sound analysis or via midi-keyboards. We are interested in the „patterns" that are being developed between the 2 (human and virtual mirror), such as scepticism, the play with boundaries, adaption, communication, collaboration, intuition and destruction. We and the machine copy these patterns and return them back in a new form, the dancer copies these patterns again. Loop and Reloop. What is the result, if the individual human patterns of a dancer (facial expressions, movements) are being returned like in a distorting mirror? The movements seem to appear similar, but also not, because they are put together and synthesised in a new way.
Furthermore we are constantly interested in questions such as perfection versus failure, analog versus digital, rag doll versus autonomy, subject versus object, individual versus mass. Harmony versus disharmony. To sum it up, 1n0ut is interested in all these contradictions we are living in nowadays, especially as digital artists.
