the fine art of brickwork - Running in 2
In this you can see the profile positioned at the expansion joint. The corner block is set to the gauge marks on the profile whilst the pin holes are used at the opposite end. A plumb point is marked at the centre of the wall to maintain bond. Note the method of running in. Posture. As we have learnt so far, the trowel hand is always furthest from the wall as explained in the workshop

the fine art of brickwork - Soldier course
Notice the second line positioned at the base of the soldier course, this is because there is no brickwork below to line to. You will find on openings/lintels of a large span that the bricks will tend to tip the more you lay. To keep this under control carefully place bricks (as shown) on top and resting onto a solid backing. Constantly keep a check on gauge plus a joint and also plumb every 2nd soldier with a boat level as you go. Finally, as with the BOE make sure you fill the frogs on the joint application to keep the work solid and protected against frost.

the fine art of brickwork - Repointing 4
Notice how the trowel concentrates the pressure at the top of the joint, pushing it back to about 1mm so as to highlight the edge on the brick, the bottom of the joint slightly overhangs the brick below. This is struck off using the board & frenchman. Then, remove surplus mortar and brush lightly. It is sometimes a good idea to leave the brushing for a few minutes to avoid brush marks.

The Home Extension Stage 2 Brickworks
www.home-extension.info This second video in our short series shows the brickwork to roof level of the construction of a two storey extension to a modest three bedroomed semi-detached house. The home extension will expand the downstairs living space and enable the first floor to be remodelled to have four reasonable bedrooms, ensuite bathroom and spacious family bathroom. The first video covered the groundworks. Further videos will cover other aspects of the build up to completion. Visit http for further details on this build including before and after plans.

Big Big Train - Victorian Brickwork (2009)
Andy Poole, bass guitar & keyboards Greg Spawton, guitars & keyboards David Longdon, vocals, flute & glockenspiel Nick D'Virgilio , drums Dave Gregory, guitars & mellotron Jon Foyle, cello Nick Stones, french horn _________________________ Lyrics: Call up the boys, call them now, time to bring them home. They will call if they want to. Fog hampered the search, Lost at sea, lost in the water. He told me many stories of the great ones, lights might bring them home. Every day they put the boats out, but not this day. Fog hampered the search, now great shock diamonds fill the sky and the deep. Lost in low light and ocean tides, the love you never meant to hide. Too far south, misplaced in my home town, the Victorian brickwork weathered but unchanged. Lost in low light and ocean tides, the love you never meant to hide. As the waves make toward a distant shore as the last words are spoken into a rising storm, falling away. Lost in the low light and the ocean tides, the love you never meant to hide. He showed me many places made me many things, carried me back home as if lost on the water. He told me many stories of the great ones, lights might bring them home. Every day they put the boats out, but not this day. Now I know who I am, I know what I mean And I know where I came from. From the sea. Lost in low light and ocean tides, the love you never meant to hide.
