Building a Free House - Why Diagonal Subflooring? | Homestead Kids

Building a Free House - Why Diagonal Subflooring? We have been asked why we install the 1x2 Pine board sub flooring diagonally instead of 90 degrees to the floor joists. In order to properly prepare the subflooring for hardwood floor or tongue and groove pine flooring, we lay the subfloor diagonally. This endures that there are no joints in the sub floor that line up with the flooring and cause separation and gaps as the wood expands and contracts. It also allows wood flooring to be installed in a herringbone pattern if one chooses :) This is the way the house was originally built and since we are using the same materials, we are making sure to reinstall it the same way. Extra Rock and Building Staked - Living off the grid Arizona Hot Homestead

Hello Hello Hello. Sorry about the wind. here is an ArizonaHotHomestead Update. I got more rock delivered. I didn't know what kind of a turn on Rock was going to be. ha ha. The rock is great because it will keep the dust down and when it does rain in Arizona it will keep reduce the mud and it is easier to walk on than the powdery dirt with large rocks. The rock/cinders are used in northern az for the purpose of reducing mud, driveways, reducing dust and finer crushed (sand like) cinders are used on highways during the winters to keep the road from icing up. I had extra cinders/rock delivered and put into a pile so later I can create walkways and fill in other areas when needed. I was even thinking of using the cinders in my horseshoe pits. I know sand is better but it's my property, my horseshoe pits, my rules so I will make the pits anyway I see fit. so there. ha ha. I staked out where I want my building to be. I am thinking of 2 buildings each 12x24 with a porch between. I wanted to stake it out to see how things would fit and if the size would work. I ordered the first building which will be here in a couple of weeks. once the first is in place I will double check measurements and order the 2nd building. I looked at WeatherKing portable buildings and Graceland portable buildings. in your area you might have other options or the company may use a different name. the pricing between the 2 were close it depended on size on who was cheaper. I went with the Graceland because they build 16" on center, WeatherKing goes 24" on center. otherwise to close to call. This Abandoned Building I spotted a mile away down the highway, just to find that when I had come up to the property there were was more than one home on the lot. Every building was filled right to the rafters. Looked like when they built a new house they would start using the previous one for storage.The Big collapsed building turned out to be a large barn that had been painted white . It was full too and everything was trapped beneath when it fell and it might never really see light again. We really do go out for the fun of it and we explore all buildings including the outbuildings. Sometimes they are the most fun and offer more insight into the people who have lived there over the years. You never know what treasure you'll come across, as nothing was ever left to waste and there was always a second purpose for everything, as you can clearly see in this video. We are not experts on video but we will get it figured. The next few videos actually look pretty good with the new camera. Because we are experiencing it as we film we tend to get a little excited when we hit one. I can fade out a few swear words when we trip over things and some idiot insight on my part but anymore and we will have no film for you.ha! ha! Building a Free House - Why Diagonal Subflooring? | Homestead Kids

Building a Free House - Why Diagonal Subflooring? We have been asked why we install the 1x2 Pine board sub flooring diagonally instead of 90 degrees to the floor joists. In order to properly prepare the subflooring for hardwood floor or tongue and groove pine flooring, we lay the subfloor diagonally. This endures that there are no joints in the sub floor that line up with the flooring and cause separation and gaps as the wood expands and contracts. It also allows wood flooring to be installed in a herringbone pattern if one chooses :) This is the way the house was originally built and since we are using the same materials, we are making sure to reinstall it the same way. Extra Rock and Building Staked - Living off the grid Arizona Hot Homestead

Hello Hello Hello. Sorry about the wind. here is an ArizonaHotHomestead Update. I got more rock delivered. I didn't know what kind of a turn on Rock was going to be. ha ha. The rock is great because it will keep the dust down and when it does rain in Arizona it will keep reduce the mud and it is easier to walk on than the powdery dirt with large rocks. The rock/cinders are used in northern az for the purpose of reducing mud, driveways, reducing dust and finer crushed (sand like) cinders are used on highways during the winters to keep the road from icing up. I had extra cinders/rock delivered and put into a pile so later I can create walkways and fill in other areas when needed. I was even thinking of using the cinders in my horseshoe pits. This Abandoned Building I spotted a mile away down the highway, just to find that when I had come up to the property there were was more than one home on the lot. Every building was filled right to the rafters. Looked like when they built a new house they would start using the previous one for storage.The Big collapsed building turned out to be a large barn that had been painted white . It was full too and everything was trapped beneath when it fell and it might never really see light again. We really do go out for the fun of it and we explore all buildings including the outbuildings. Sometimes they are the most fun and offer more insight into the people who have lived there over the years. Hello Hello Hello. Sorry about the wind. here is an ArizonaHotHomestead Update. I got more rock delivered. I didn't know what kind of a turn on Rock was going to be. ha ha. I went with the Graceland because they build 16" on center, WeatherKing goes 24" on center. otherwise to close to call. Building a Free House - Why Diagonal Subflooring? We have been asked why we install the 1x2 Pine board sub flooring diagonally instead of 90 degrees to the floor joists. In order to properly prepare the subflooring for hardwood floor or tongue and groove pine flooring, we lay the subfloor diagonally. This endures that there are no joints in the sub floor that line up with the flooring and cause separation and gaps as the wood expands and contracts. It also allows wood flooring to be installed in a herringbone pattern if one chooses :) This is the way the house was originally built and since we are using the same materials, we are making sure to reinstall it the same way. Hello Hello Hello. Sorry about the wind. here is an ArizonaHotHomestead Update. I got more rock delivered. I didn't know what kind of a turn on Rock was going to be. ha ha. The rock is great because it will keep the dust down and when it does rain in Arizona it will keep reduce the mud and it is easier to walk on than the powdery dirt with large rocks. The rock/cinders are used in northern az for the purpose of reducing mud, driveways, reducing dust and finer crushed (sand like) cinders are used on highways during the winters to keep the road from icing up. I had extra cinders/rock delivered and put into a pile so later I can create walkways and fill in other areas when needed. I was even thinking of using the cinders in my horseshoe pits. I know sand is better but it's my property, my horseshoe pits, my rules so I will make the pits anyway I see fit. so there. ha ha. I staked out where I want my building to be. I am thinking of 2 buildings each 12x24 with a porch between. I wanted to stake it out to see how things would fit and if the size would work. I ordered the first building which will be here in a couple of weeks. once the first is in place I will double check measurements and order the 2nd building. I looked at WeatherKing portable buildings and Graceland portable buildings. in your area you might have other options or the company may use a different name. the pricing between the 2 were close it depended on size on who was cheaper. I went with the Graceland because they build 16" on center, WeatherKing goes 24" on center. otherwise to close to call. This Abandoned Building I spotted a mile away down the highway, just to find that when I had come up to the property there were was more than one home on the lot. Every building was filled right to the rafters. Looked like when they built a new house they would start using the previous one for storage.The Big collapsed building turned out to be a large barn that had been painted white . It was full too and everything was trapped beneath when it fell and it might never really see light again. We really do go out for the fun of it and we explore all buildings including the outbuildings. Sometimes they are the most fun and offer more insight into the people who have lived there over the years. You never know what treasure you'll come across, as nothing was ever left to waste and there was always a second purpose for everything, as you can clearly see in this video. We are not experts on video but we will get it figured. The next few videos actually look pretty good with the new camera. Because we are experiencing it as we film we tend to get a little excited when we hit one. I can fade out a few swear words when we trip over things and some idiot insight on my part but anymore and we will have no film for you.ha! ha!
