The César Award is the national film award of France, first given out in 1976. The nominations are selected by the members of the Académie des arts et techniques du cinéma.
The nationally televised award ceremony is held in the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris each February.
The name of the award comes from the sculptor César Baldaccini (1921–1998). The trophies are actual sculptures of the artist. They are considered to be the French equivalent of the American Academy Awards. The 37th César Awards was presented on 24 February 2012, with Antoine de Caunes acting as the master of ceremonies and Guillaume Canet as the chairman of the ceremony.

Marion Cotillard (French pronunciation: [maʁjɔ̃ kɔtijaʁ]; born 30 September 1975) is a French actress and singer. She garnered critical acclaim for her roles in films such as La Vie en Rose, My Sex Life... or How I Got Into an Argument, Taxi, Furia and Jeux d'enfants. She has also appeared in such films as Big Fish, A Good Year, Public Enemies, Nine, Inception, Midnight in Paris, and Contagion.
In 2007, Cotillard starred as the French singer Édith Piaf in La Vie en Rose, for which she won the Academy Award, the BAFTA Award, the César Award and the Golden Globe Award for best actress. She made film history by becoming the first person to win an Academy Award for a French language performance. In 2010, she received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the musical Nine.
Cotillard was born in Paris and grew up around Orléans, Loiret in an artistically inclined, "bustling, creative household". Her father, Jean-Claude Cotillard, is an actor, teacher, former mime, and 2006 Molière Award-winning director. Cotillard's mother, Monique (now known as Niseema) Theillaud, is also an actress and drama teacher. She has two younger twin brothers, Quentin and Guillaume. Guillaume is a screenwriter and director. She began acting during her childhood, appearing on stage in one of her father's plays.
Léa Seydoux (born July 1, 1985) is a French actress and model. She is the granddaughter of Jérôme Seydoux, Chairman of Pathé, and grandniece of Nicolas Seydoux, Chairman and CEO of Gaumont.
In 2009, she was nominated for the César Award for Most Promising Actress for her role in the film La Belle Personne. She has been cast in a number of notable American films such as Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris and Brad Bird's Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
Seydoux has been photographed by top fashion photographers including Steven Meisel, Mario Sorrenti, Ellen von Unwerth, and Jean-Baptiste Mondino for magazines including Vogue Paris, Numero, W, L'Officiel, and Another Magazine.
