National Anthem of Federation of Malaya
For More Information please visit www.nationalanthems.us The Federation of Malaya (Malay: Persekutuan Tanah Melayu), was a federation of 11 states formed on January 31, 1948 from the nine Malay states and the British settlements of Penang and Malacca. From 1946 to 1948, the 11 states formed a single crown colony known as the Malayan Union. Due to opposition from Malay nationalists, the Union was disbanded and replaced by the Federation of Malaya, which restored the symbolic positions of the rulers of the Malay states. Within the Federation, while the Malay states were protectorates of the United Kingdom, Penang and Malacca remained British colonial territories. Like the Malayan Union before it, the Federation did not include Singapore, which before this time had usually been considered to be part of Malaya. The Federation achieved independence within the Commonwealth of Nations on August 31, 1957. In 1963, the federation together with Singapore, Sarawak and British North Borneo (which was renamed Sabah) formed a new federation called Malaysia. Singapore separated from Malaysia to become an independent republic on August 9, 1965.

Malaysia
Malaysia is a country in Southeast Asia consisting of thirteen states and three Federal Territories, with a total landmass of 329845 square kilometres (127354 sq mi). The capital city is Kuala Lumpur, while Putrajaya is the seat of the federal government. The population stands at over 28 million. The country is separated by the South China Sea into two regions, Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo (also known as East Malaysia). Malaysia borders Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, and Brunei. It is near the equator and has a tropical climate. Malaysia's head of state is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, an elected monarch, and the head of government is the Prime Minister. The government is closely modelled on the Westminster parliamentary system. Malaysia as a unified state did not exist until 1963. Previously, the United Kingdom had established influence in colonies in the territory from the late 18th century. The western half of modern Malaysia was composed of several separate kingdoms. This group of colonies was known as British Malaya until its dissolution in 1946, when it was reorganized as the Malayan Union. Due to widespread opposition, it was reorganized again as the Federation of Malaya in 1948 and later gained independence on 31 August 1957. Singapore, Sarawak, British North Borneo, and the Federation of Malaya merged to form Malaysia on 16 September 1963. Tensions in the early years of the new union sparked an armed conflict with Indonesia, and the expulsion of ...

Opposition To Malayan Union
This is the second part of Malayan Union. In this part, the focus is more on the opposition of the Malays, the local Malay newspapers and some very influential ex-British Officers on Malayan Union. This era also portrays the beginning of Malays unity with the formation of a political organization , United Malays National Organization or UMNO. British later changed Malayan Union 1946 to Federation of Malaya in 1948.

Malaysia Tour In 12 Minutes
Malaysia has its origins in the Malay Kingdoms present in the area which, from the 18th century, became subject to the British Empire. The first British territories were known as the Straits Settlements, whose establishment was followed by the Malay kingdoms becoming British protectorates. The territories on Peninsular Malaysia were first unified as the Malayan Union in 1946. Malaya was restructured as the Federation of Malaya in 1948, and achieved independence on 31 August 1957. Malaya united with Sabah, Sarawak, and Singapore on 16 September 1963, with si being added to give the new country the name Malaysia. However, less than two years later in 1965, Singapore was expelled from the federation. Since independence, Malaysia has had one of the best economic records in Asia, with GDP growing an average 6.5% for almost 50 years. The economy has traditionally been fuelled by its natural resources, but is expanding in the sectors of science, tourism, commerce and medical tourism. The country is multi-ethnic and multi-cultural, which plays a large role in politics. The government system is closely modelled on the Westminster parliamentary system and the legal system is based on English Common Law. The constitution declares Islam the state religion while protecting freedom of religion. The head of state is the King, known as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. He is an elected monarch chosen from the hereditary rulers of the nine Malay states every five years. The head of government is ...

Merdeka Malaysia Kuala Lumpur
Start your financial independence today www.x1concept.com After independence in 1957, Kuala Lumpur was the capital of the Federation of Malaya and continued to be the capital of the renamed Federation of Malaysia in 1963. For the occasion of independence, A large stadium, Stadium Merdeka (Independence Stadium), was built, where Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, declared Malaya's independence in front of a massive crowd. The Union Jack was lowered from the flagpole at the Padang (now known as Dataran Merdeka; Independence Square) and the Malayan flag was raised. The Padang symbolized British sovereignty as it was a cricket ground for the colonial administrators and fronted the Royal Selangor Club, Malaya's most exclusive Whites-Only club. In 1974 Kuala Lumpur seceded from Selangor and the city became a Federal Territory (Wilayah Persekutuan).

Indonesia and Malaysia, late August
The second half of August marked the independence of two neighbouring South East Asian nations - Indonesia and Malaysia - who had common apprehensions including communist insurgency and colonial rule. Sharing a long cultural, religious, and commercial affinity, these nations saw the worst period of hostility during the middle of the Twentieth Century. After Malaya's independence, Indonesia wanted a merger with Malaya to form Indonesia Raya. But Malaya was keen on forming the federation of Malaysia following a merger with Singapore and Borneo. Relations between these nations would sour. Indonesia and Malaysia were the colonies of two different European nations but their independence had carved a new equation in South East Asia. The Japanese invasion of this region was not a milestone for the Allied forces or for Japan, but for these nations of the Equator. Indonesia's freedom was the result of Japan evicting Dutch armies from Indonesia during the Second World War. Two days after Japan's surrender, Indonesia declared its independence but Netherlands tried to establish power. After several rounds of diplomatic attempts, Indonesia declared the independence on August 17, 1945 and the Dutch recognised it in December 1949. Indonesian leader Sukarno is regarded as the architect of Indonesian Independence. Japan's invasion of Malaya on the other hand, aroused feelings of nationalism and after the Second World War, the people of Malaya united to form the Federation of Malaya. The ...

Pt I Mataji 90th Birthday
Mataji (full name: Damyanti Devi) was born on 18th Nov 1919 in the city of Ludhiana, capital of Punjab. She moved to Malaya in 1936 after her arranged marriage to Pitaji, mainly living in estates around Jasin, Malacca. In 1941, just before the Japanese invasion of Malaya, they fled for Singapore by boat and by steamer back to Punjab. By December that year, the Japanese had occupied Penang and Singapore. After the end of World War II, Pitaji returned to Malaya by military ship to Asahan Estates in Malacca. Mataji joined him in August 1947, narrowing escaping the India/Pakistan partition massacre in Punjab and in many parts of India. Few have witnessed and lived history the way Mataji has, from British Malaya to the federation of Malaya (Merdeka) and to the formation of Malaysia. Today, she celebrates her 90th birthday amongst her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends. She is blessed with 9 children, 23 grandchildren and todate 10 great grand children across the globe.

Malayan Union
The Malayan Union was a confederation of the Malay states and the Straits Settlements excluding Singapore, which was placed as a crown colony under direct British rule. It was the successor to British Malaya and was conceived to simplify the administration of British colonies in the Malay Peninsula. It was formed on April 1, 1946 by the British. Few of the key details of the Union were: Malayan citizenship that would give equal rights to all would be citizens regardless of race citizenship based on the jus soli principle the transformation of the title Sultan to President. In a way, the Sultans, the traditional rulers of the Malay states, would concede all their powers to the British Crown except in the matters of culture and religion. The Union would be ultimately placed under the rule of a British Governor. The idea of the Union was first expressed by the British on October 1945 in the aftermath of the Second World War by the British Military Administration. Sir Harold MacMichael was assigned the task of gathering the Malay state rulers' approval for the Malayan Union in the same month. In a short period of time, he managed to obtain all the Rulers' signatures through intimidation. On April 1, 1946, the Malayan Union officially came into existence with Sir Edward Gent as its first governor. The capital of the Union was Kuala Lumpur. -From Wikipedia.
