KPFA 6PM News (11.2.13): CCSF Volunteers Tackle $1 Billion Project
(SAN FRANCISCO, CA)--- Over 100 community members, classified employees, students, faculty and administrators are coming together to take concrete action to address identified problems at the college. Together, they are looking at the community college accreditation commission's list of over 300 items that need to be fixed to maintain accreditation. On the list is one billion dollars' worth of deferred maintenance. The alliance, known as "We Are CCSF", will take on some hard labor of pulling weeds, recycling, composting, window washing and other activities on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10 AM. "We need to do everything in our collective power to ensure that City College stays open and accredited for current and future generations of students", says Jill Kersey a classified employee at SF City College and a member of SEIU Local 1021. "This is an all-hands-on-deck moment in the history of our college and our city. Together, we can do what must be done to help repair, rebuild, and restore our college." "We Are CCSF" alliance includes community members, classified employees, students, administrators and faculty, including Students Making a Change, SEIU 1021 and Coleman Advocates. The mission for "We Are CCSF" is to "Repair what is broken at CCSF, Rebuild the college to become a high functioning institution once again, and Restore public faith in the college's capacity to effectively serve the people of San Francisco".- published: 04 Nov 2013

"Cooking The Books" Community And Staff Challenge KPFA/KPFK Pirodsky On Morning Mix Cancellation
In the second day of protests at KFPA radio station in Berkeley on May 27, 2014, community supporters and staff protested the cancellation of the Morning Mix radio segments on prime time to be replaced by a program called "Uprising" in LA hosted by Sonali Sonali Kolhatkar. Information was also released that Oakland attorney Dan Seigel whose firm is representing the current management and board majority and also is running for mayor of Oakland had contributed $1,000 and this temporary increase in donations which was part of the justification by KPFA/KPFK management for "Uprising" to replace the Morning MIx which is a local labor community program production at KPFA in prime time. This debate outside KPFA in the morning was not reported on by the KPFA news managers. KPFA Workers And Community Speak Out For The "Morning Mix" & Unpaid Staff
On Saturday May 31, 2014 community supporters of KPFA and KPFA workers spoke out at a rally to defend the Morning MIx Shows and also to stand up for the unpaid staff who produce 60% of the programming at the community station. Local community programmers are being threatened with the loss of their shows by a management that disregards their labor and work. An imported show from Los Angeles called "Uprising" by Sonali Kolhatkar has been replaced 5 local community shows which cover labor and many community events at prime time. The KPFA workers also discussed the lack of support for the unpaid staff by management versus the treatment of the paid staff.
