Pashto Movie - ORBAL 1 [Director Mumtaz Ali Khan - A Biographical Note]
A Biographical Note - Mumtaz Ali Khan was born in village Pabbi, Pakhtunkhwa in December 1949. He completed his early education in his village. He did not continue higher studies although he got admitted to Edwardes College, Peshawar. Early on he knew what to do with his life and that was to become a film director. To realize his dream of becoming a director, he went lahore and started to work as assistant for Urdu film star and comedian Rageela [real name Saeed Khan]. He worked with Rangeela on Urdu movie "Diya aur Tofan" and "Dil aur Dunya" in 1969. When pashto movie production started in 1969, film producer Habibullah Khan asked the young Mumtaz Ali Khan to direct his pashto movie "Dara Khybar". His first pashto movie turned out to be more successful than he had ever imagined and with that started a splendid career as director. Afterwards, he produced 45 movies as a director and all of them did well. Among his successful movies were ORBAL, DEEDAN, BAGHI, DARA KHYBAR, KHANA BADOOSH, JAWARGAR, KHKAARI, NAVAY DA YAO SSPHAY, and scores of other great movies. Mumtaz Ali Khan not only produced great pashto movies, he exceptionally did well in producing Urdu and Punjabi movies and got a name for himself at par with well known Urdu and Punjabi directors such as Hasan Tariq, Nazar Ul Islam, and Pervaiz Malik. Unfortunately, he had to say goodbye to the film industry in early 1990s because of the death of his first wife. Mumtaz ali Khan has 4 children from his first wife and ...

Pashto Movie - ORBAL 17 [Amaan - A Biographical Note]
Pashto film actor Amaan was born in Bannu, Pakhtunkhwa in mid 1940s. He started his film career with pashto movie "Kala Kazan Kala Bahar" which was produced before Yousaf Khan Sherbano but released later in 1972. It was a total failure, reducing Amaan's chances of success as actor. He did play a few memorale roles as a villian. His well known pashto movies included Tarbur, Dara Khybar, ZarTaja, Jang aw Aman, Deedan, Arman and Navay Da Yao Ssphay. Amaan quit the film industry in early 1990s and moved Peshawar to try his luck in Peshawar Television Station. He appeared in one pashto TV serial in 1997. I recall seeing him in Peshawar Sadar at the Artist Equity Association Office. It is not clear where Amaan is currently settled. We wish him well for the great role he played in ZarTaja and other pashto movies. LONG LIVE AMAAN. SOURCE: AnwarGul of Kohat wrote this note for Youtube.

Pashto Movie - DEHQAN 11 [Surraya Khan - A Biographical Note]
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Surraya Khan was born in Jehangir Pura, Peshawar in 1958. Her real name is Sayyida Aasiya Bibi. She has a sister and three brothers. Her father Major Raza Hussain Shah died in the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. Surraya Khan has one son [Shakeel Hussain] who has a B.Sc degree from Punjab University. Surraya Khan entry into the Pukhtu film industry was accidental. It was in 1971 when she was visiting a film studio in Lahore along with her high school class fellows that she got an offer from pukhtu film Director Mumtaz Ali Khan to act in pashto film Dara Khyber. Mumtaz Ali Khan communicated the offer through Surraya Khan's high school principal who was leading the high school tour that day to the studio. After permission from her family members, she accepted the role, and thus started a film career that has continued till this day. So far, Surraya Khan has played various roles, mainly as heroine, in about 150 pashto movies, and the march to fullfilment continues. In addition to acting, Surraya Khan has produced many movies, including [ZAR TAJA] that became very popular because of its great story and songs. Her favorite directors include Mumtaz Ali Khan, Saeed -Un-Naskh Saeedi, and Aziz Tabassum. Her favorite singers are Khyal Muhammad and Gulnar Begum. This song from film Zar Taja is one of her favorite song. During my conversation with Surraya Khan, she talked about it with great excitement. Because she belongs to a religious Shia family, early on ...

Pashto Movie - DEHQAN 15 [Niamat Sarhadi - A Biographical Note]
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Despite that he is hated all the way from the start to the end of a movie, Pashto movies goers think twice when a movie cast does not include Niamat Sarhadi. He has a unique talent that is unmatched by any other Pashto movie villain. That explains why almost every Pashto movie has featured Niamat Sarhadi since 1970 when the first Pashto movie Yousaf Khan Sherbano was produced. Just like Badar Munir and Yasmin Khan, this movie made him a household name. During his movie career, Niamat Sarhadi has played as a villian in almost 450 movies, earning the nickname "The King of Pashto Movies" for his excellent performances. Pashto movies with Niamat Sarhadi in the cast were guaranteed a box office success. He was born in Bala Manri, Peshawar on the Kohat road in 1943. This is the same neighborhood of Peshawar where Muhammad Rafeeq Shinwari (Pashto music composer) lived and had a residence, Mahjabina Qazalbash has a house, and a host of other artists reside. His uniqueness is not confined to his roles on the silver screen. Despite living in a city like Lahore, Niamat Sarhadi has 4 wives and all of them live with him in the same house. While without exception, he has always been at war with Badar Munir on the silver screen, in real life the two are brother-in-laws [Niamat Sarhadi married to Badar Munir sister]. Personally, I only had a chance to see Niamat Sarhadi from nearby in Mansehra in a hotel in 1987, and never had the opportunity to meet him. But those who ...

Pashto Movie - ORBAL 13 [NAVEETA KHAN - A Biographical Note]
NAVEETA KHAN - Naveeta Khan grew up in Rawalpindi. She was one of the well known singers of the 1970s, and early 1980s. Being a daughter of Pukhto speaking father and Hindko speaking mother, she recorded songs in both languages. Lok-Versa, Islamabad had an audio cassette of her Hindko songs while Radio station, Peshawar recorded about 40 Pakhto songs. I hope Lok-Versa and the station has still got them. Naveeta Khan recorded a few dozen but some of the lovely songs for Pakhto movies such as Orbal, Shaheed, Weena au Meena, and Deedan. Naveeta Khan said good bye to music in early 1990s, and settled in London, United Kingdom. I request all pashto music lovers and others who care to pray for Naveeta Khan's health and happiness. Pashto Movie - Navay da Yao Sphay 7 [ NIMMI - A Biographical Note]
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Nimmi, whose real name was Naureen, was born in 1961 in Lahore. Her father [Mr.Abdul Hafeez] and mother [Sughra] died in early 1990s, whereas her two brothers [Mazhar and Ghoshi] and two sisters [Huma and Nusrat Ara] are still alive. Despite living in a city like Lahore, Nimmi did not go to school at all. However, she did acquire religious education, studying Quran and related scriptures. Her lack of formal education did not bar her to develop elementary understanding of pashto. Nimmi's movie career started with acting in Urdu dramas. One day she was visiting a studio in Lahore, where she came across Badar Munir. After a brief talk, Badar Munir offered her a role his pashto film Navay da Yao Sshpay. The film turned out to be a super hit, and thus Nimmi became a super star. She got offers for many movies and starred in a bunch of movies during 1974-1978. Nimmi took her assignments seriously and exhibited extra-ordinary bravery by performing some challenging roles in pashto film "Naavay da Yao Sshpay." After her marriage in 1978, she could not devote as much time as before to her movie career. Taking care of her three kids [two daughters, and a son] took priority over the movie career. To make matters worse, her husband died as well in early 1980s and she had to go through a lot of hardships. While she continued to act in movies till 1988, eventually she gave up. Her sister, Nurat Ara [Urf Bin Bathurri], is also associated with Pakistan Television and ...

Pashto movie - JURUM aw SAZA 1 [Fazal Rabi Pardesi BIOGRAPHY]
A BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Fazal Rabi Pardesi - Music composer of this nice video and many other sweet songs. Fazal Rabi Pardesi was born in Nowshera Kalan (Pukhtunkhwa) during mid 1940s and grew up in the same village. He developed interest in music because many of his family members were associated with the music profession. While Fazal Rabi Pardesi can play a variety of instruments (eg, Harmonium, Benjo, and Tabla), his favorite instrument is Tabla and has been playing Tabla for the past 30 years or so. He got formal training to play Harmonium from Khushmir Ustaad and to play Tabla he worked with Nisaar Qadri. Both Khushmir and Nisar Qadri worked at the Radio Station Peshawar, and were well respected among the music fraternity at that time. Fazal Rabi Pardesi has been associated with Pashto film industry for the past 45 years and has composed music for 60 films. Personally he likes his composition for pashto movie Jurm-aw-Saza, Ujrati Qatil, and Prraang. According to him, the current situation in the film industry is not conducive for good work. The industry has collapsed and he has problem finding producers who can think beyond pure commercial interests. His favorite singers include Khayal Mohammad, Gulnar Begam and Kishwar Sultana, and his favorite lyricists are Amir Ghulam Sadiq and Murad Shinwari. Among Pashto composers, he is impressed with Muhammad Rafiq Shinwari. He thinks pashto music will progress provided Pashto composers keep core pashto music in mind; the bottom ...

Secret of Nikola Tesla (full length)
When a young and gifted inventor by the name of Nikola Tesla (Petar Bozovic) arrives in America, he first works for the famous Thomas Edison (Dennis Patrick) but later strikes a fruitful cooperation with George Westinghouse (Strother Martin). Together they battle against Edison in order for Tesla's superior system of alternative current to be accepted by the world community who currently uses only Edison's system of direct current. Later on the mighty financier JP Morgan (Orson Welles) joins the game as he provides Tesla with financial support to build his Colorado Springs laboratory only to completely dump him later on after he realizes Tesla's inventions could provide the world with unlimited free energy for everybody. See one of the most important periods of modern history and the tragedy of this great inventor who aspired to change the world towards a better place. A rare attempt of biographical movie production by the former yugoslav (croatian) cinema, the movie being completely in english. www.imdb.com
