RSPCA Video - Dog neglect case footage
25th October 2012 A woman from Northumberland has pleaded guilty to six allegations of causing suffering and neglect of four dogs and 12 cats under the Animal Welfare Act 2006*. Three Shih-Tzu type dogs had fur so overgrown that their mouth, nose and eyes were indiscernible. The animals were discovered living in squalor in her house after a call from a concerned member of the public. Six cats and three nursing kittens were living in two cages stacked on top of each other in the kitchen. Three others were in the living room along with a German Shepherd type dog. Three Shih-Tzus were living in one of the bedrooms. RSPCA inspector Trevor Walker said: "I have worked for the RSPCA for over 15 years and during that time have witnessed some pretty horrific things but I can honestly say that I've never seen such a deeply depressing sight as these three Shih-Tzu dogs. "At this stage I can only describe them as dog-like because there were no discernible points of the mouth, nose or eyes through the mass of fur and dreadlocks.

Border Collie Rescue - Natalia - RSPCA Cruelty Case
Border Collie Rescue took Natalia in from the RSPCA in February 2008. The Border Collie had been siezed by the RSPCA, along with another dog, after a tip off. The husband and wife who confined their two pet dogs to the kitchen for two years, with one running round in circles for so long it wore a groove in the lino, have been banned for life from keeping animals. Magistrates at Harrogate heard how the couple caused unnecessary suffering to Charmaine, a tan coloured Dobermann who was starved to the point of death and neglected Natalia, a Border collie which as well as constant circling had tried to claw her way through the kitchen door to freedom. Each pleaded guilty to four charges brought by the RSPCA under the 2006 Animal Welfare Act. They admitted two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to Charmaine and two charges of failing to ensure the needs of both dogs were met to the extent that they exhibited normal behaviour patterns. Prosecutor Stuart Berry said RSPCA Inspector Mike Pugh went to the couple's home and found Charmaine, who was sunken-eyed, collapsed and lying on her side in the kitchen with faeces on the floor, to be so emaciated a vet had to put her down. She had been unable to stand without assistance, her spine, ribs and pelvic bones were clearly visible and she had weighed 19.6kilos rather than the norm of 33kilos. Natalia, the Border Collie, who had been exhibiting abnormal behaviour, constantly running round in a tight circle, had gone to Border ...

RSPCA video - Rescue dog Hope recovering
Hope was found abandoned inside a cardboard box in Somerset on 16 May 2012. She was too emaciated and weak to walk or eat and has been described by vets as 'the thinnest dog seen alive'. Thankfully she is now recovering well but still has a long way to go. And it will be several months before Hope will be ready for rehoming. Read more about Hope in our news article: www.rspca.org.uk

RSPCA video: Circuses are no fun for animals
Join the campaign to end circus suffering at: www.rspca.org.uk/CircusesAreNoFun Despite the Westminster Government's promise to ban wild animals in circuses, the licensing scheme planned for the interim period could mean even more suffering, for even more animals... In fact, we could still see wild animals suffering in travelling circuses in 2020! It's time the Government listened to the majority of the people in this county and granted the animals their long overdue ban. Please share this video and spread the work that Circuses are #NoFunforAnimals

LEADERSHIP & DIVERSITY - The RSPCA visits the Jains
www.diverseethics.com Consultants in Leadership and Diversity in the Workplace Contact Dr. Atul K. Shah, CEO Email: atul@diverseethics.com Press Release - www.rspca.org.uk RSPCA chiefs were welcomed at a Jain Festival at one of the faith's largest UK temples yesterday (Monday 17 September 2012) as part of an ongoing project to engage with faith communities. RSPCA chief executive Gavin Grant and trustees Dr Richard Ryder and Barbara Gardner celebrated the Paryushan festival during a visit to the Oshwal Centre in Potters Bar in Hertfordshire. They took part in an hour-long ceremony of prayers with 300 members of the temple's community. Mr Grant said: "Engaging with different faith groups is a growing part of the RSPCA's work to improve animal welfare and this visit was an eye-opening one. "The whole world could learn something from this three thousand year old Jain philosophy of compassion for all living beings. This lies at the heart of the work of the RSPCA, and we were honoured to share this festival with them." The RSPCA has begun to work with Diverse Ethics to understand how it can better support, advise and work with communities from across England and Wales and in turn how to encourage more members from faith communities to get actively involved in working for and supporting the RSPCA. Dr Atul Shah from Diverse Ethics was asked by the RSPCA to review how the charity communicated its activities and how improvements can be made in relation to faith groups. He made his ...
