POETRY IN MOTION ~ Johnny Tillotson 1960.wmv
POETRY IN MOTION ~ Johnny Tillotson ~ 1960 ~ Cadence Records. This is the tune that made Johnny Tillotson a "Teen Idol" . Others included: DREAMY EYES, WITHOUT YOU, & IT KEEPS RIGHT ON-A HURTIN'. POETRY IN MOTION is one of my personal favorites because of "the sound". It rates with Bobby Darin's DREAM LOVER, Steve Lawrence's PRETTY BLUE EYES, Bobby Rydell's LITTLE BITTY GIRL & Paul Anka's PUT YOUR HEAD ON MY SHOULDER. It's all in "the sound" . Johnny Tillotson performed POETRY IN MOTION on Dick Clark's AMERICAN BANDSTAND on Thursday - September 22, 1960. The song first hit the charts on October 10, 1960, stayed on the charts for 15 weeks , & peaked at #2.

Nat King Cole NBC Show -3-
Julius La Rosa sings on The Nat King Cole Show aired September 3, 1957. Peggy Lee sings "Don't Get Around Much Anymore". La Rosa had finished high school and joined the Navy. In the last nine months he sang with the United States Navy Band in Washington DC and was "discovered" by Arthur Godfrey, a leading television entertainer of the day, who said, "Young man, when you get out, come see me. You've got a job." From November 19, 1951 to October 19, 1953, 23 months to the day, Julius La Rosa was a member of the immensely popular CBS TV series "Arthur Godfrey and his Friends" It was a variety hour centered around Godfrey and his "friends" including Frank Parker, Tony Marvin, Julius LaRosa, Haleloke, Marion Marlowe, the McGuire Sisters and bandleader Archie Bleyer. Godfrey's orchestra leader, Archie Bleyer, formed CADENCE RECORDS in late 1952, primarily to record La Rosa. Bleyer's orchestra would back him on record as well as on television performances. Julius LaRosa's first recording, and Cadence Records first single release, was "Anywhere I Wander." It shot immediately into the national top-30. La Rosa followed this with "My Lady Loves To Dance," which was a moderate success. The third release was a golden charm. In 1953, he recorded "Eh, Cumpari." This novelty song was a run-away hit, reaching number two. Julius La Rosa won an award for best new male vocalist for 1953. Followed by "Domani," another hit song for La Rosa and Cadence Records. He had done well for Cadence ...

Link Wray & His Ray Men - Rumble 45 rpm!
Rumble - Link Wray & His Ray Men (Cadence Records) 1958, 45 rpm! A Direct Recording! After his discharge from the Army, Link Wray and his brothers Douglas and Vernon joined with their friends Shorty Horton and Dixie Neal to form Lucky Wray and the Lazy Pine Wranglers, later called Lucky Wray and the Palomino Ranch Hands. They had been playing country music and Western swing for several years when they were hired as the house band on the daily live television show Milt Grant's House Party, a local Washington, DC version of American Bandstand. They made their first recordings in 1956 as Lucky Wray and the Palomino Ranch Hands for Starday Records. For the TV show, they also backed many performers, from Fats Domino to Ricky Nelson. In 1958, at a live gig of the DC-based Milt Grant's House Party, attempting—at the urging of the local crowd—to work up a cover sound-alike for The Diamonds' hit, "The Stroll", they came up with an eleven and one half bar blues titled "Rumble" which they first called "Oddball". The song was an instant hit with the live audience, which demanded four repeats that night. Eventually the song came to the attention of record producer Archie Bleyer of Cadence Records, who hated it, particularly after Wray poked holes in his amplifier's speakers to make the recording sound more like the live version (see "Rocket 88" for Ike Turner's similar story). Searching for a title that would hit home with radio listeners, Bleyer sought the advice of Phil Everly, who ...

(Henry Mancini) Moon River - Sungha Jung
Sungha www.sunghajung.com plays 'Moon River' arranged by Ed Gerhard. "Moon River" is a song composed by Johnny Mercer (lyrics) and Henry Mancini (music) in 1961, for whom it won that year's Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was originally sung in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's by Audrey Hepburn, although it has been covered by many other artists. The song also won the 1962 Grammy Award for Record of the Year.[1] It became the theme song for Andy Williams, who first recorded it in 1961 and performed it at the Academy Awards ceremonies in 1962. He sang the first eight bars at the beginning of his television show and also named his production company and venue in Branson, Missouri after it. Williams' version was disliked by Cadence Records president Archie Bleyer, who believed it had little or no appeal to teenagers.[citation needed] Andy Williams' version never charted, except as an LP track, which he recorded for Columbia in a hit album of 1962. The success of the song was responsible for re-launching Mercer's career as a songwriter, which had stalled in the mid-1950s because rock and roll replaced jazz standards as the popular music of the time. An inlet near Savannah, Georgia, Johnny Mercer's hometown, was named Moon River in honor of him and this song. The popularity of the song is such that it has been used as a test sample in a study on people's memories of popular songs.[2] Moon River Theme of Moon River composed by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer ...
