Asturias has since become one of the most popular pieces in the concert repertoire for the classical guitar. With its Flamenco-infused character rooted in the rich culture of Spain, Asturias is a natural fit for the guitar. Ironically, it is perhaps better-known as a guitar piece than its original incarnation as part of a suite for the piano. Its hypnotic, yet fast-moving first section, punctuated by a few fortissimo chords, transports listeners to another world. The second section, slow and pensive ...

'Asturias' (Leyenda) by Albéniz - P. Barton, Feurich 218 harmonic pedal grand piano
'Introduction to the Harmonic Pedal' the follow - plus tutorial. *Correction: I apologize for mispronouncing the "Legenda" in Spanish in this video. Thank you to several viewers for pointing this out: "In Spanish, the letter J sounds like our H. Not the Y. In other words, it's not Lehenda, unless it is spelled with a J Martha Argerich on the harmonic pedal: It is here, at La Roque d'Anthéron, my dear collegue Georges Pludermacher, has shown me your wonderful and most interesting invention which really enriches our old piano and enables so many possibilities, as in the old repertoire and for the future. Thank you for this beautiful pédale harmonique. I wish, as do many other of my colleges young and old, to really be able to play and study with your great gift, present to the world of the piano. *NEW Harmonic Pedal Channel: www.youtube.com Link to score (free and legal) imslp.us * * * * * * * * * * * 19/07/12 added: The score I used in the video is The Boston Music Co.1914 edited by CBRoepper. There are notable differences between 3 main editions. I personally feel the Roepper edition is the most 'musical' and happens to be the most practical for pianists - a perfect combination. To read more about differences between editions: pianosociety.com * * * * * * * * * * I chose to play this well known piece as the outer sections are written mainly in staccato. With the harmonic pedal, for the first time it's possible to play staccato clearly and have reverb at the same time. It ...

Asturias Documental (Conoce Asturias)
