400km/h Driving Tour of Burnaby and Vancouver, BC, Canada (Music by Colin Pombo)
Here's a driving tour of Burnaby and Vancouver BC Canada, sped up 8x and accompanied by the amazing music of Canadian musical artist, Colin Pombo. www.myspace.com The route: Recorded at 8pm on May 10th 2011. I start at Kensington Shopping Plaza in Burnaby (on East Hastings Street), and drive West along Hastings all the way into Vancouver, through the Downtown Eastside and into the business district. I then turn left onto Burrard Street and drive south to Robson (famous shopping street) and then go along Robson all the way to Vancouver's west end, where I explore Denman Street down to Davie, and then back past Burrard again down to Granville. The music: The music is Perceptions and Sea of Tranquility by Colin Pombo. Thank you so much Colin and friends for the amazing music, I am so glad to feature it here. You guys rock!! The camera: I placed my Sony Cybershot DSC-HX7V on my dash using a mini-tripod which I got from London Drugs. I then recorded the drive in 17 megabits per second 1080i (60i) using manual white balance that I calibrated to a 18% Grey Card. I then imported the video into Windows Live Movie Maker, sped up the clips 8x and then added Colin's great music. I really like my Sony HX7V, which is the latest camera from Sony that just came out last month. It is currently $349 at London Drugs, a little point and shoot camera. As you can see the quality is really great - so much improved over last years models. About me: I'm Geoff Peters, a 29 year old software ...

Snakehead Caught In Central Park Burnaby
Snakehead Caught In Central Park, Burnaby BC Canada on Friday June 8, 2012. After first being spotted May 13, 2012 on Mothers Day, the snakehead fish that had eluded Government Officials and citizens who tried to capture the infamous fish, has finally been caught after the pond was drained about 2.5 feet. At most, there was probably about a foot of water left in the deepest part of the pond which made it easier for officials to locate the snakehead. I am relieved to see that they were successful on their second attempt. If this unfortunate incident ever occurs somewhere else in Canada, I hope they hire a professional snakehead hunter that uses a bow and arrow that has a line attached to the arrow and a reel attached to the bow. I say this only because it seems like the most effective way to capture the snake head fish without destroying the aquatic life and it would be more cost effective.

SkyTrain Ride-Burnaby-Vancouver-Millennium Line-Lougheed-Rupert
www.vancesova.com Watch SkyTrain ride from Burnaby to Vancouver on Millennium Line from Lougheed Mall to Rupert Street Station. The Millennium Line is the second line of SkyTrain built in Metro Vancouver, more than a decade after the first Expo Line. It is not as heavily used as the Expo line, at least not on a Saturday. The line goes through less populated areas at least part of the way when it goes through dreary industrial park zones. Even in the residential areas around the Lougheed Mall and the Brentwood Mall, consisting mainly of high rise buildings, the view from the train is not as interesting as around the Expo line due to the uniform and gray look of the buildings. That look is reminiscent of the communist style gray drab look that is now all but gone from the former Eastern Block European countries. The buildings are sleeker, narrower and taller than the buildings produced under communism but they lack color just as much. But the nature around the Millennium Line is nice and, especially now in spring time, it has a fresh look. One of the highlights of the Millenium line is the section where it crosses above the Freeway. The line there is very high above the ground and the view is interesting. Enjoy.

Snakehead In Burnaby May 25 2012
I just confirmed the snakehead fish is still in the Central Park lower pond in Burnaby. This fish has eluded nets, electo shock and fishing rods. Could this frankenfish be smarter than the average fish? After personally observing it for many days, I've noticed the snake head fish is always in the same location, at the same time and only when the conditions are just perfect. Knowing these key factors are essential in order to capture it, which I very much would like to assist in. When the snake head fish is caught, I think it would be great if the fish was put in a live display at the Vancouver Aquarium to help educate the public on the dangers of such an invasive species. Snakehead In Burnaby Update June 7 2012
June 7, 2012. It's the day before the Government Employees arrive to capture the elusive snakehead fish. It has been reported that they are to remove all the invasive species in the lower pond in Central Park, Burnaby BC So far, the lower pond has been drained about approximately two feet or more. The deepest part of the pond is probably about less than a foot deep. The bigger fish (Carp) are now having trouble swimming in the shallow water and are now more visible. The snakehead was first spotted May 13, 2012 by a park visitor who posted his video on youtube and this fish has been seen by many others since that day. It's been almost a month now and hopefully by tomorrow, this snake head fish that has worried so many locals, will finally be captured.

Hunting For The Snakehead In Burnaby
Today, Ministry officials tried to catch the Snakehead in Central Park. The Snakehead fish dubbed the 'Frankenfish', eluded officials but they did manage to catch Carp, Bullhead fish, Red Top Minnows, Bull Frog tadpoles and some turtles. I thought they were well organized and tried a variety of techniques to catch the snake Head. Staff officials started off with a fine netting to see if there were any baby snakehead fish which luckily, came up negative. They then switched over to electro-fishing which would stun the fish, but that too did not work out in the capture of the snake head fish. Next was a long net that stretched out into the pond that worked well catching carp, with the biggest one weighing 18 pounds. By the end of the day, the snakehead clearly had won this round and still remains in the Central Park pond. I think the Ministry of the Environment staff did a great job and would personally like to thank them for their efforts. This 'Frankenfish' has come as close as 2 feet away from me, but was nestled under a bunch of branches leaning over the pond. Although I could easily have attempted a capture of this fish on a few occasions, I can not do so without permission from the proper authorities. I guess my only hunting of this invasive species will be with my video camera until its gone. (This video was taken Wednesday, May 23, 2012)

Snakehead scandal in Burnaby's Central Park - Day 2
I'm sure we all know what happened by now, but it's far from over. The media couldn't give it a fair treatment... There is more to this than meets the eye. It may be hard to watch, disturbing to many, but this is happening, and it will not stop here. Casual ecocide should not be tolerated on any scale. This is a fallacy - black and white. The second pond is next, but what comes after that? We have already lost something very special, something that made us wealthy. This park was reserved for the Queen of England to be enjoyed by her Subjects, and for masts for her ships. No place in the world do trees grow so tall and so straight. We need to stand in their example and preserve our character, fine examples for our children, brave and true. TUUM EST.
