Raymond Martin (Raymart) Santiago (born July 20, 1973 in Manila, Philippines) is a Filipino action star and comedian who belongs to one of Philippine showbiz's most recognizable families.

Personal life[link]

He comes from a prominent Philippine showbiz family—the Santiagos. His father is the late director Pablo Santiago Sr. He is the youngest among the Santiago siblings. He and two of his elder brothers are also known in their respective fields in show business—them being Randy Gerard (or Randy Santiago) who is a singer/actor/host and Rowell who is a director/actor. Their other brother is Reilly Pablo Jr., who was married to another local actress Sherilyn Reyes and also tried his hand at film production.

He married actress Claudine Barretto on March 27, 2006 in Tagaytay Highlands in Tagaytay City, Cavite[1]. Their wedding was attended by ABS-CBN and GMA Network executives, their families (except Gretchen Barretto, who at the time of the wedding was estranged with Claudine), their showbiz and non-showbiz friends. Claudine gave birth to their son on July 19, 2007—a day before the couple’s birthday. Rodrigo Santino ^[1] joins big sister Sabina Natasha(b 2004), whom they adopted at 2 months old in July 2004.^[2] Both Claudine and Raymart are Born-again Christians which they attended at Victory Christian Fellowship.

Raymart's wife Claudine Barreto joins GMA in 2010 for Claudine's exclusive GMA contract, now both Raymart & Claudine are now both Kapuso contract stars.

Showbiz Initiation[link]

Raymart started testing the showbiz waters in 1989 when he was introduced in Viva Films' youth-comedy flick "Estudyante Blues" (Student Woes). Among his contemporaries at that time were Gelli de Belen, Keempee de Leon, Dingdong Avanzado and Vina Morales. After "Estudyante Blues", Raymart became Viva's contract star and started to become visible before the public. While some of his fellow Viva contract stars were given regular TV shows aside from movies at that time (most of them were on "That's Entertainment"), Raymart opted not to overexpose himself and instead only did TV guestings. He also started to concentrate on his studies until he finished high school in La Salle Greenhills while doing movies on the side. In the movies he appeared, he was mostly paired with Gelli de Belen.

From Junior Comedian to Action Prince[link]

Raymart endeared himself to the public early in his career with his comic timing, which was at par with some veteran comedians he worked with. Among the comedy movies he appeared in were "Wooly Booly: Classmate kong Alien", "Wooly Booly 2: Ang Titser kong Alien" and "Paikot-ikot". Not long after, Viva launched him as a junior comedian in the movie "Rocky en Rolly" where he shared top-billing with Jimmy Santos. The movie was a success, and he was given a follow-up movie entitled "Tootsie Wootsie", where he worked with Herbert Bautista and Keempee de Leon. However, destiny had other plans for Raymart as action director Deo Fajardo, Jr., who discovered Robin Padilla, took a gamble on him and was repackaged as an action star in 1991. Soon after, Raymart was launched in his first action flick, "Angelito San Miguel: Batang City Jail". The movie was both a critical and commercial success. Soon after, Raymart became an in-demand junior action star. Among his memorable movies were "Magnong Rehas", "Pita: Terror ng Kalookan", "Noel Juico, Batang Kriminal", and "Dillinger ng Dose Pares". Raymart sustained his popularity as an action star for almost a decade, until Philippine movies started to decline. His last major movie as an action star was Sgt. Santos: Batang Sundalo in 2001.

The TV Comedian[link]

In 1998, Raymart signed up as a contract star for GMA Network who gave him his first action-sitcom, "Kool Ka Lang" (Be Cool). The sitcom was initially directed by his brother Randy who gave it up after signing up as lead host of ABS-CBN noontime show "Magandang Tanghali Bayan". But "Kool Ka Lang" lived on as Raymart and his gang led by Joey Marquez was able to make a mark among Philippine viewers. The sitcom became a hot Tuesday viewing habit from the time it was aired from 1998-2003. When "Kool Ka Lang" signed off, Raymart teamed up again with Joey Marquez, Richard Gomez and Benjie Paras in "Lagot Ka Isusumbong Kita". Unlike in "Kool Ka Lang" where the action star image was still stuck with him, "Lagot Ka" presented a different side of Raymart who explored more with his comedic abilities.

Raymart recently starred in his third sitcom with GMA, "Who's Your Daddy Now?" where he essayed a father role for the first time opposite newcomer Alynna Asistio. The show ran for only 13 episodes (a minimum timeframe for a Philippine TV show). Despite the axing of the sitcom, Raymart has been signed up to do a primetime TV series opposite Dennis Trillo and Marky Cielo. The series will be entitled "Pulis Pangkalawakan". He was previously offered a role in the hit Philippine drama Bakekang, but turned down the role, the role went on to be played by Victor Neri.

On August 17, 2007, PEP said that Dennis Trillo, Marian Rivera and Judy Ann Santos will star in Regal Films' When I Met You to be directed by Regal's Joel Lamangan, but he will not make it with Angel Locsin. Dennis is now doing Kulam with Judy Ann Santos for Regal Films also. On August 21, Dennis started in taping his new fantaserye of GMA-7's Zaido, where he stars with Raymart Santiago, Marky Cielo, Aljur Abrenica, and Lorna Tolentino, at a studio in Marilao, Bulacan. ^[3]

From 2008 to 2009, he also recently concluded his action-fantaserye Gagambino was formerly aired on GMA 7 together with Benjie Paras, Jennica Garcia, Katrina Halili & Dennis Trillo.

In 2009, Santiago was recently seen in Darna aired on Channel 7 where he plays a news photographer.

In 2010, Raymart returns to drama via Claudine, a weekly drama mini series of GMA 7 which together with his real wife, Claudine Baretto-Santiago. His wife's very 1st GMA show.

Controversy[link]

On July 13, 2007, Santiago and his wife Claudine Barretto, admitted they did not know that Francswiss Investment—which accepted their money—was involved in a pyramid scam. Their lawyer, Ellen Veza, told NBI agents that the Barrettos had invested in Francswiss, but declined to say if they recruited other investors. Francswiss duped Filipinos of almost P1 billion.^[4]

On May 6, 2012, Raymart Santiago, along with Claudine and his 8 man entourage, assaulted a known journalist and senior citizen, Ramon Tulfo, due to Ramon purportedly using his mobile phone to take photos of his wife Claudine screaming at and humiliating a ground attendant of Cebu Pacific concerning missing luggage which supposedly contained asthma medicine for friend's their children. This occurred within NAIA Terminal 3 in a location not covered by CCTV. Witnesses state that the brawl began when Raymart and his entourage surrounded Ramon and demanded he hand over his phone. Ramon refused and the assault commenced.

A video of the brawl was recorded and posted on YouTube which clearly shows Raymart choking Ramon while encouraging his friends to throw punches at him. Claudine can clearly be seen attacking Ramon as well. The security guards eventually stop the attack and escorts Ramon away while Raymart follows alongside screaming obscenities at Ramon.

A few days after the incident, Claudine files assault and child abuse charges on Ramon as they claim that he (Ramon Tulfo) initiated the attack. Claudine also states that she has a witness to her claim. The name of the witness was not given and he has not given his account of the incident to anybody but Claudine. The rationale behind the child abuse charges, according to Claudine, comes from the fact that Ramon (allegedly) begins the assault in front of her children, traumatizing them.

Upon questioning the ground attendant Claudine was heckling, she stated that it was her husband and entourage who had initiated the assault.

Jose Miguel "Mike" Tuason Arroyo (born June 27, 1946) is a former First Gentleman of the Philippines. He is the husband of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the former President of the Philippines and current Congresswoman of Pampanga 2nd District.

Arroyo's great-great-grandparents were Ignacio Arroyo and Doña Maria Pidal, who raised three children in total - Maria Beatriz Del Rosario Arroyo (a candidate for sainthood), Jose Maria Arroyo and Mariano Arroyo. Jose Maria became a senator in 1919, whilst Mariano was elected into the office of governor for the western Philippine province of Iloilo in 1928. Senator Jose Maria Arroyo and spouse Jesusa Araneta-Lacson (from the Negros Occidental province) eventually produced seven children together, one of whom was Ignacio Lacson Arroyo. Ignacio subsequently married Lourdes Zaragoza Tuason and the two then raised their own family, with two sons, Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo, and Ignacio Arroyo, Jr..^[1]

Whilst Arroyo's family hails from the province of Iloilo, his ancestry can be traced back to the Fujian province on mainland China^[2][3]. Arroyo's major project whilst occupying the role of the Philippines' First Gentleman was the sourcing of funding for the training of Filipino athletes in preparation for the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, for which the Philippines was the host nation.

Arroyo's only daughter, Evangelina Lourdes 'Luli' Arroyo, 37, married J. Aloysius 'Luigi' Bernas on November 5, 2008 in the Tagaytay Highlands. Bernas is a former investment banker and ex-director of the Ayala Foundation, marrying Arroyo's daughter during a small, private function to which only ten people were invited.^[4]

Health[link]

The former First Gentleman's fragile health has been a public affair since April 9, 2007 when Arroyo underwent open heart surgery after being diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm - the procedure lasted for ten hours but was considered successful (22 days after the operation, Atty. Arroyo had almost completely recovered and was discharged from hospital). However, Arroyo's health since 2007 has been described as "questionable", with serious abdominal pains resulting in an emergency landing in 2008 and a another heart-related hospital visit in 2010^[5].

Controversy[link]

During the period when his wife was president, Arroyo became the main target of attacks, including those concerning his wife's administration, and on one occasion, his alleged involvement in a scandal (there were a number of scandals during this time) led him to decide upon voluntary exile as a management technique^{[citation needed]}.

In 2003, Arroyo was accused by Senator Panfilo Lacson of money laundering with the use of a secret bank account, opened under the fictitious name of "Jose Pidal". The laundered money involved in the accusation was allegedly derived from campaign contributions received for Arroyo's wife's prior presidential bid. Arroyo's brother Ignacio Arroyo, Jr later claimed that the alias, and associated bank account, belonged to him, thereby countering the accusations against Arroyo. Ignacio Arroyo, Jr. currently serves as the Representative of the Fifth District of Negros Occidental for the Philippine Congress^[6] .
