The Musicians@Google program was thrilled to welcome acclaimed musician Wynton Marsalis and Geoffrey Ward to Google's New York office to discuss their new book "Moving to Higher Ground: How Jazz Can Change Your Life,". The event was moderated by with Google's own Jim Lecinski. Wynton Marsalis is an acclaimed musician, bandleader, educator, composer and author. He is the Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Music Director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Composer John Adams Dishes On Pop Culture
Complete video at: fora.tv "The great bifurcation in music is between pop and classical," says composer John Adams. He discusses the challenge of creating classical music in a nation dominated by pop culture and "lingering anti-intellectualism." ----- One of America's most performed and admired composers, John Adams (Nixon in China, Doctor Atomic) helped shape the landscape of contemporary classical music. His new memoir reveals the inner workings of his creative process and illuminates the recent history of music-making. - Los Angeles Public Library John Adams is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer with strong roots in minimalism. His best-known works include Harmonielehre (1985), On the Transmigration of Souls (2002), a choral piece commemorating the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks (for which he won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2003), and Shaker Loops, a minimalist four-movement work for strings. His well-known operas include Nixon in China (1987), which recounts Richard Nixon's 1972 visit to China, and Doctor Atomic (2005), which covers Robert Oppenheimer, the Manhattan Project, and the building of the first atomic bomb.

Pulitzer Prize Winning Photography: A mirror to the world
A collection of photographs which have won the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography from 1961 to 2007. The collection has 27 photos and obviously don't have all winner photos. Pulitzer prizes for press phtography are given in two categories: Breaking news photography and Feature phptography. More info can be obtained from en.wikipedia.org In the later years, the award is mostly given to a collection of photographs covering a story rather than a single one. In such cases I chose the photo which I found most appealing for various reasons. For example, while the photo of a medical technician weeping at the funeral of his collegue who died in the 9/11 (2002) was chosen for its deep emotion, the photo of a dog feeding on a human corpse in New Orleans (2006) was chosen for its shock value. However a collection of award-winning photos can be found in the Pulitzer prizes official site: www.pulitzer.org

Kid Rock's "Amen" with Pulitzer Prize Winner David Turnley's Photographs
Kid Rock in the company of famed Pulitzer Prize winning documentary photographer David Turnley. Turnley, having grown up in Indiana, is a product of the same Midwest that gave us Robert Ritchie (aka Kid Rock). Frustration with social ills and a plea for the curative power of love, the subject matter of the song "Amen," are good matches for Turnley's career of exposing humanity in the midst of war and upheaval. Edited by Javier Alvarez From photographs of the struggle against apartheid in South Africa to the days in which Chinese citizens rose against their government at Tiananmen Square and the fall of the Berlin Wall, David Turnley emerged as one of the most gifted photographic interpreters of the power of the human struggle against injustice. Turnley's direction of the video to accompany "Amen," Kid Rock's second single from the album Rock N Roll Jesus, is compelling and powerful. Kid Rock says it is the best song he has ever written. "I went to a friend's house over in Malibu overlooking a bluff and I sat there and looked at the ocean. And I thought: 'Amen.' What a powerful word." Starting with the title he then wrote this song voicing his frustration with problems in American society in the midst of the war in Iraq and famine in Africa. Kid Rock has claimed this is the best song he's ever written. The song features the Gospel choir The Fisk Jubilee Singers, who were originally formed in 1871 to raise funds for Fisk University in Nashville. In seven years they raised ...
