Eastman Innovation Lab Presents: Sustainable from the Start (A BASF, Ford And Eastman Collaboration)
'Sustainable from the start', is part of a series of Results of Insight video stories on the Ford / BASF / Eastman collaboration to develop paint formulations that are at the leading edge of performance and sustainability. Waterborne or solvent borne high solids coatings technology -- what's best for the environment? "Sustainability is all about delivering cost, quality and environmental," says Tim Weingartz, materials manager -- paint engineering group, at Ford. "We're looking to fundamentally achieve all three simultaneously. We're driving things like smaller footprint plants, the lower use of raw materials coming in, lower energy to continue the plant operation." "The key with sustainability is you don't wait for 10 years to see where you're at," says Mike Meyer, technical upstream manager -- strategic sourcing, for BASF. "You've got to be doing things today to make sure you're around in 10 years." There probably won't be a single solution across all industries, but there'll be solutions for each industry," explains Brad Lich, vice president & general manager for Eastman's Coatings, Adhesives, Specialty Polymers & Inks business. "Consumption is really where it's at; making products that have better longevity. Whether that's a coating that lasts twice as long or a car that lasts twice as long -- the most sound way to drive sustainable solutions is drive reduced consumption."

BASF : "How we envision to become an organisation 2.0"
Cordelia Krooss is senior community manager at BASF, the major German chemical company with more than 100.000 people on its payroll. BASF has already implemented some inner social media tools and enabled social platforms to operate within the company. Communication 2.0 has made its way inside the company, at some levels and with different communities. According to Cordelia, this is only one step. BASF envisions to become, in the future, a trus organisation 2.0, where sharing of knowledge, open attitude at every level of the company will convert into a true new DNA of the group's culture. A huge industrial almost 150 years old company can also become agile, thinks Cordelia Krooss. Video recorded at the Paris Enterprise 2.0 Summit of Paris, in 2012.

BASF Precious Metals Refining, Salts & Solutions - Shanghai, China
BASF has a new manufacturing plant in Shanghai housing a state-of-the-art facility for producing precious metals-based salts and solutions used in industrial applications. The salts and solutions produced at the 2200-square meter plant are primarily used to support BASF's mobile emissions catalysts manufacturing operation in Shanghai. This operation uses the products in its formulations for automotive catalytic converters, which are the single most important solution for reducing emissions from the exhaust of cars, trucks and buses. Wind energy -- Perpetual motion on the skyline
It is generally less well known that modern wind turbines would hardly be conceivable without innovative solutions in chemistry. The huge rotor blades can be up to 60 meters long and are subjected to enormous dynamic stress. Here chemistry comes into play. It makes it possible to lower the production costs of wind turbines. This allows wind energy to be a sustainable contribution to the future energy mix with other energy sources on the way to a low carbon society. www.basf.com

BASF TV Commercial / Music by Born Musicians
(No voice over edit for showreel purposes)
The brief here called for something that would make the viewer feel a mixture of homeliness and energy. Also mid way there is a transition as the camera comes up to surface in the bathtub. This has a musical accent that provides that lift into the home environment.

Google Invests in Biotech; BASF Celebrates 20yrs; Arnold Foundation Funds NuSi - Health Min 9/24/12
Google's Venture Fund plans to invest $1 billion in start-ups over the next five years, with a special focus on biotech. Some of the specific areas of interest include businesses that are working on radical life extension, cryogenics, and nanotechnology. Google Ventures has already invested in Foundation Medicine, a molecular information company that produces a personalized cancer diagnosis so a patient can receive personalized treatment. BASF has celebrated the 20th anniversary of its ibuprofen plant in Bishop, Texas. The facility uses an environmentally friendly production technique that avoids the use of chromium salts and minimizes waste. It has been recognized with VPP Start site status, which recognizes employers and workers who have implemented effective safety and health management systems. BASF is the leading producer of generic active pharmaceutical ingredients. The Arnold Foundation is backing the launch of the Nutrition Science Initiative with a $5 million grant. NuSI's mission is to produce large-scale scientific studies that tackle fundamental issues of obesity, such as how food affects fat, hormones, and the brain. The Arnold Foundation's seed money will fund in-depth studies by nutrition researchers that are usually prohibitively expensive. smart forvision: Transparent Organic Solar Cells
The organic dye solar cells are built into the smart forvision's roof. They convert sunlight to energy, in that way maximizing energy efficiency in the car. The OLED-OPV sandwich roof is transparent. Daylight enters the interior and is converted at once to energy through the organic solar cells. The organic dye solar panels add a special touch to the design of the smart forvision, with their eye-catching hexagonal shape. The color scheme knows no limits. www.smartforvision.basf.com
