Michael Snow - La Région Centrale (1971)
"La Région Centrale" was made during five days of shooting on a deserted mountain top in North Quebec. During the shooting, the vertical and horizontal alignment as well as the tracking speed were all determined by the camera's settings. Anchored to a tripod, the camera turned a complete 360 degrees, craned itself skyward, and circled in all directions. Because of the unconventional camera movement, the result was more than merely a film that documented the film location's landscape. Surpassing that, this became a film expressing as its themes the cosmic relationships of space and time. Cataloged here were the raw images of a mountain existence, plunged (at that time) in its distance from civilization, embedded in cosmic cycles of light and darkness, warmth and cold. La Région Centrale (Quebec, 1971, 180 min., 16mm, color) is arguably the most spectacular experimental film made anywhere in the world, and for John W. Locke, writing in Artforum in 1973, it was "as fine and important a film as I have ever seen." If ever the term "metaphor on vision" needed to be applied to a film it should be to this one. Following Wavelength, Michael Snow continued to explore camera/frame movement and its relationships with space and time in Standard Time (1967) an eight minute series of pans and tilts in an apartment living room and (Back and Forth) (196869), a more extended analysis. But with La Région Centrale, Snow managed to create moving images that heretofore could no possibly be ...

Switzerland's Jungfrau Region: Interlaken and Swiss Military Secrets
Interlaken, one of the Alps' original resorts, is a useful springboard for alpine thrills. And, when the famous peaks get socked in by clouds, you can choose from some interesting lowland options. In this town, four innocent-looking hay barns conceal a network of tunnels connecting several big guns. Many of these once top-secret sites are now open to the public as museums. For more information on the Rick Steves' Europe TV series — including episode descriptions, scripts, participating stations, travel information on destinations and more — visit www.ricksteves.com.

euronews focus - Four regions weather the economic storm
www.euronews.com The gentle summer song of road diggers has never been more welcome in Europe! It is music to the ears in these times of economic crisis because it means business as usual. In terms of GDP the Rhône-Alpes region is the second largest region in France and the seventh largest in Europe. Of course the crisis has affected things there, but you will not hear the bells of doom ringing in that region. In 2013, 'Four Motors for Europe' an alliance of Baden-Wurttemberg in Germany, Catalonia in Spain, Lombardie in Italy and the Rhône-Alpes in France will be 25 years old. A quarter of a century of inter-regional cooperation with the aim of developing together and giving a voice to powerful regions as well as less affluent ones. For Baden Wurtemberg, the region which is about to take over the presidency of the alliance, the current priority is boosting the confidence of EU citizens. So, is Europe at the end of the road? Winfried Kretschmann, the Minister and President of the Region of Baden Wurtenberg does not believe that. He told euronews: "No, of course it's not the end of the road for Europe. But regional authorities are closer to the people and our aim is to translate the big ideas, the big European themes, for people, to get them involved, make them participate, so that they understand the advantages in their daily lives, in their working lives, and in the world of education." Work is what most Europeans want. Europe's managers - the national leaders - are all ...

Waterloo Region LRT Mockup Video
Rapid transit debate ends in Waterloo Region; Council approves LRT. Waterloo regional council has voted 9-2 in favour of building an $818 million light rail transit system, the largest infrastructure project ever in that region. The approved rail plan suggests a completion date of 2017 when electric trains will run 19 kilometres from Waterloo's Conestoga Mall to Fairview Park Mall in Kitchener. Much like the draft plan for LRT on Hamilton's B-Line, Waterloo trains will run in dedicated curb lanes travelling at the speed of traffic (30 km/h on average). Light rail vehicles will share signalized intersections with traffic but will trigger green lights giving trains priority. Travel time from Waterloo to Kitchener is expected to be about 39 minutes, up to nine minutes faster than express buses, with trains passing every 7.5 to 15 minutes. Due to lower transit ridership, Cambridge will get buses, although Waterloo Region planning staff say there will be less potential for redevelopment with buses. Waterloo Regional Council plans to introduce trains in Cambridge some time in the future, but no funding source or launch date has been determined. The federal and provincial governments are paying up to $565 million while Waterloo Region will kick in $253 million. Council voted in favour of a seven year, phased in tax increase of seven percent. To limit the tax hike, council has decided to pay one third of the costs out of current regional spending, drawing on welfare costs (soon ...

Taken in the central highlands of Spain, the autonomous regions Castilla-La-Mancha and Castilla-y-Léon. A region full of history and culture: The Goths, Romans and Moors have left their marks here. Don Quijote has fighted against the windmills here. This was the place of residence of El Greco, Diego de Velazquez and Francisco de Goya.

I am a photographer from Portland, Oregon. I want to share the beautiful NW region through my eyes with time-lapse photography.
I choose to shoot locations that appeal to the way I would like to interpret the story of time. Here in the Pacific Northwest, there are endless opportunities to document the magnificence of the world around us. I have discovered that when time is the storyteller, a special kind of truth emerges.
Various locations include ...
Mt. Shuksan, Crater Lake, Mt. Bachelor, Mount St. Helens, Oregon's Badlands, Painted Hills, Cape Kiwanda, Mt. Hood, Lost lake, and Cannon Beach
I started this project in July 2011 and shot the final scene in August 2012. I took approximately 260,000 images. I used 6.3 TB of hard drive space.

Lightning strikes three of the tallest buildings in Chicago at the same time!
On June 23rd, 2010 a line of nasty storms rolled through Chicago in the early evening hours. I stayed late at the office that night to work on some things and to avoid the rush hour chaos that was going on. Once I returned home I wasn't really paying attention to what was happening outside until someone asked me if I was watching the lightning. I took a quick look out my window and saw some quick hits of lightning and ran back to my room to grab my camera and tripod. I was standing out there randomly hitting the record button and hoping I would catch some of the strikes. About 15 minutes in nothing was happening during my current recording so I reached to stop it and start a new one. At the moment I touched the camera three of the tallest buildings in Chicago were struck by lightning at the same time. Willis Tower (Tallest), Trump International Hotel and Tower (2nd Tallest) and the John Hancock Building(4th tallest). If you listen closely, you can hear me lightly say "yes!" after the triple strike happens.
**** 6/27 - Posted the sequel with more strikes from this storm! http://vimeo.com/12905965 ***
HD Video was shot on a Canon EOS 7D. Video was edited with Sony Vegas Movie Studio.
