Klein's question What's the backup plan?TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Naomi Klein: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism
MIGRATED FROM PRIOR POSTING TO GOOGLE VIDEO Naomi Klein The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism First Unitarian Church of Portland Portland, Oregon December 7th, 2007 "Klein may well have revealed the master narrative of our time." -San Francisco Chronicle "In THE SHOCK DOCTRINE, Naomi Klein explodes the myth that the global free market triumphed democratically. Exposing the thinking, the money trail and the puppet strings behind the world-changing crises and wars of the last four decades, The Shock Doctrine is the gripping story of how America's "free market" policies have come to dominate the world-- through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries." Engaging, but casual, smart and eloquent, but easily understood, Naomi's presentation charmed the crowd as much by its style as by its content. Though speaking from a podium, she seemed very much a part of, rather than apart from the gathering. www.naomiklein.org www.naomiklein.org Jim Lockhart Camera co-producer: Kellie La Bonty

Naomi Klein: Fake "Debt Crisis/Bankruptcy": We are NOT Bankrupt! Tax the Rich!
Among the thousands at last night's Occupy Wall Street protest in New York City was award-winning journalist and author Naomi Klein. She is the author of the bestselling book, "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism." She also wrote "No Logo," a book that has become a cultural manifesto for critics of unfettered capitalism worldwide. Klein was interviewed on Democracy Now! to discuss the Occupy Wall Street movement and why it is being belittled in the corporate media. "My biggest fear was that the Obama presidency was was going to lead this generation of young people into political cynicism and political apathy," Klein says. "But instead, they are going to where the power is. They are realizing the change is not coming in Washington because politicians are so controlled by corporate interest, and that that is the fundamental crisis in this country." Naomi Klein: Obama's Delay of Keystone XL Oil Pipeline Decision is Win for Environmentalists
www.democracynow.org - Environmental activists are claiming victory after the Obama administration announced Thursday it will postpone any decision on the proposed 1700-mile Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline until 2013. The announcement was made just days after more than 10000 people encircled the White House calling on President Obama to reject the project, the second major action against the project organized by Bill McKibben's 350.org and Tar Sands Action. In late August and early September, some 1200 people were arrested in Washington, DC, in a two-week campaign of civil disobedience. "We believe that this delay will kill the pipeline," says the Canadian author and activist Naomi Klein at a Nov. 10 event sponsored by The Nation magazine in New York City. "If it doesn't, if this pipeline re-emerges after the election, people have signed pledges saying they will put their bodies on the line to stop it."
