Willem de Kooning "End of a New Beginning" at GAGOSIAN
James Kalm is back on the "low down" to bring viewers exclusive footage of this historical exhibition. Willem de Kooning (1904-1997) was born in Holland and arrived in America as a stowaway in 1926. By combining his classical European training with the non-objective abstraction developing in New York in the 1940s he established himself as a founder of "Action Painting". After a long career as one of America's most recognized painters, and due in part to severe alcoholism, in the late seventies he displayed symptoms of Alzheimer's like dementia. This show documents the radical distillation of his late style, resulting in a reduction to linear strokes in primary colors, and displays his mastery of painting though his disease had incapacitated him in most other areas of life.

Willem de Kooning: A Retrospective at MoMA Part I
James Kalm has on occasions presented what he feels are "historical" exhibitions. But nothing could fit that category more precisely than "Willem de Kooming a Retrospective at MoMA". Billed as the most complete survey of this heroic artist's career ever presented, this exhibition is a once in a life time chance to see its full breadth. Part one features pieces from de Kooning's student years to 1950, what is considered his "break through year". Organized by John Elderfield, Chief Curator Emeritus of Painting and Sculpture.

Billed as the most complete survey of this heroic artist's career ever presented, this exhibition is a once in a lifetime chance to see its full breadth. Part two features "the Break Through Years" 1948 -1950, and a viewing of the groundbreaking "Woman" series from the early 1950s including "Woman III " which David Geffen sold to Steven A. Cohen for $135 million in November, 2006.

Manic Street Preachers - Interiors
Manic Street Preachers - Interiors (Song For Williem De Kooning) One of my favourite songs from my favourite album ever, Everything Must Go by the brilliant Manic Street Preachers. Lyrics: Who sees the interiors like young Willem once did Your beautiful triangle of distortion Now you seem to forget it so much Who sees the interiors like young Willem once did Say you can remember say where is the tomorrow Say where you're coming from Say what you have left us Are we too tired to try and understand That nothing is nothing on that we depend Take my hand together and we will cry It really makes no difference To what we see inside to what we see inside Who sees the interiors like young Willem once did A beautiful landscape of your nation Another era is not forthcoming Who sees the interiors like young Willem once did Say you can remember say where is the tomorrow Say where you're coming from Say what you have left us Are we too tired to try and understand That nothing is nothing on that we depend Take my hand together and we will cry It really makes no difference To what you see inside What you see inside Say you can remember say where is the tomorrow Say where you're coming from Say what you have Are we too tired to try and understand That nothing is nothing on that we depend Take my hand together and we will cry It really makes no difference To what you see inside to what you see inside

Willem de Kooning A Retrospective at MoMA Part III
James Kalm has on occasions presented what he feels are "historical" exhibitions. But nothing could fit that category more precisely than "Willem de Kooming: a Retrospective at MoMA". Billed as the most complete survey of this heroic artist's career ever presented, this exhibition is a once in a lifetime chance to see its full breadth. Part three features the major shift to abstract landscape that took place from 1956-59 bringing with it grand coloristic brushwork, his departure to live fulltime in the Hamptons, and his concentration of female figures in the landscape. Organized by John Elderfield, Chief Curator Emeritus of Painting and Sculpture.

WILLEM DE KOONING TWELVE
Fire damaged footage of De Kooning in his East Hampton studio mid August of 1966. The history of the footage: De Kooning, was a close friend of mine and of the poet Frank O;Hara. A month before this footage was shot , O'Hara was killed by a car on Fire Island, Me and O'Hara had been working on some new films at the time, and De Kooning was in one as Captian Nemo. I had planned before O'Hara's death, to get to East Hampton to film De Kooning along with Patsy Southgate and Claire Hooton. All of us were friends, and after i finished shooting what i needed we talked about O;Hara. I shot that also. The sound for the footage was never recovered.

Willem de Kooning A Retrospective at MoMA Part IV
James Kalm has on occasions presented what he feels are "historical" exhibitions. But nothing could fit that category more precisely than "Willem de Kooming: a Retrospective at MoMA". Billed as the most complete survey of this heroic artist's career ever presented, this exhibition is a once in a lifetime chance to see its full breadth. In the fourth and final episode, we view beautiful examples of de Kooning's sculptures, a major part of his out put from the late fifties until the late seventies, and an array of masterful brushy abstractions that could be called "classic de Koonings". MoMA director Glenn Lowry and Curator John Elderfield, discuss in depth the controversial late paintings, and we wrap up this unique exhibition with a gallery tour of the artists spare last works. Organized by John Elderfield, Chief Curator Emeritus of Painting and Sculpture.

WILLEM DE KOONING. TOM JONES. ISAAC HAYES. "DON'T LET GO" + LYRICS.
Peintures de Willem De Kooning. Chanteurs : Tom Jones et Isaac Hayes. Hear that whistle, it's ten o'clock. Don't let go, Don't let go. Come on, baby, it's time to rock, Don't let go, Don't let go. I'm so happy I got you here, Don't let go, Don't let go. Keeps me grinnin' from ear to ear. Don't let go, Don't let go. Oo-wee, This feelin's killin' me; Ah shucks, I wouldn't stop for a million bucks. I love you so, Just hold me tight. Don't let go! Thunder, lightening, wind and rain, Don't let go, Don't let go. Love is stormin' inside my brain, Don't let go, Don't let go. I'm so eager, I'm nearly dyin', Don't let go, Don't let go. You've been keepin' your lips from mine. Oo-wee, This feelin's killin' me; Ah shucks, I wouldn't stop for a million bucks. I love you so, Just hold me tight. Don't let go! Hound dog barkin' up side the hill, Don't let go, Don't let go. Love is draggin' him thru the mill, Don't let go, Don't let go. If it wasn't for havin' you, Don't let go, Don't let go. I'd be barkin' and howlin' too. Oo-wee, This feelin's killin' me; Ah shucks, I wouldn't stop for a million bucks. I love you so, Just hold me tight. Don't let go! One day, baby, you'll quit me yet, Don't let go, Don't let go. I'll be cryin' and soakin' wet, Don't let go, Don't let go. One thing, baby, I'll never stand, Don't let go, Don't let go. Your lips kissin' some other man. Oo-wee, This feelin's killin' me; Ah shucks, I wouldn't stop for a million bucks. I love you so, Just hold me tight. Don't ...

Willem de Kooning at Hirshhorn
There is a contrast between the delicacy of the dessein of de Kooning and his dreadful women. On one side, poetry of lines and colors, on the other side provocative vulgarity and ugliness. I wouldn't be surprised to find in one of his works a case of vagina dentata. Art critics have explained to us that in his depiction of women de Kooning gave voice to sexual dreads that are deeply nested in our subconscious. Well, de Kooning is far from being the only master in the twentieth century to challenge us with terrifiant visions (Mihail Ralea has a study on the Ugliness in Art) ; I'd like to add something else regarding the works of de Kooning: his roads back and forth between abstract and figurative are fascinating.

WILLEM DE KOONING ELEVEN
Excerpt from SAN FRANCISCO SPREADS HER LEGS WIILEM DE KOONING context. Part TWO: Kerouac and me arrive in Frisco, are rescued by the great actor David Niven who thoughtfully spreads San Francisco's legs for us. A two part folly: a kind of parallel event three years after the 1957 night described in The Cedar Bar. A circa 1960 trip to San Francisco for the west coast premiere of Pull My Daisy at the San Francisco Film Festival with Jack Kerouac. This video is introduced and videotaped by Andrew Lampert of Anthology Film Archives in NYC and made especially for the Pacific Film Archive in Berkley. CA. .
