In fusion power research, the "Z-pinch", also known as "zeta pinch", is a type of plasma confinement system that uses an electrical current in the plasma to generate a magnetic field that compresses it . These systems were originally referred to simply as "pinch" or "Bennett pinch" , but the introduction of the "theta-pinch" concept led to the need for increased clarity.
The name refers to the direction of the current in the devices, the Z-axis on a normal three-dimensional graph. Any machine that causes a pinch effect due to current running in that direction is correctly referred to as a Z-pinch system, and this encompasses a wide variety of devices used for an equally wide variety of purposes. Early uses focused on fusion research in donut-shaped tubes with the Z-axis running down the inside the tube, modern devices are generally cylindrical and used to generate high-intensity x-ray sources for the study of nuclear weapons and other roles.
The Z-pinch is an application of the Lorentz force, in which a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field experiences a force. One example of the Lorentz force is that, if two parallel wires are carrying current in the same direction, the wires will be pulled toward each other. In a Z-pinch machine the wires are replaced by a plasma, which can be thought of as many current-carrying wires. When a current is run through the plasma, the particles in plasma are pulled toward each other by the Lorentz force, thus the plasma contracts. The contraction is counteracted by the increasing gas pressure of the plasma.

A "pinch" is the compression of an electrically conducting filament by magnetic forces. The conductor is usually a plasma, but could also be a solid or liquid metal. Pinches were the first device used by mankind for controlled nuclear fusion.
The phenomenon may also be referred to as a "Bennett pinch" , "electromagnetic pinch", "magnetic pinch", "pinch effect" or "plasma pinch".
Pinches occur naturally in electrical discharges such as lightning bolts, the aurora, current sheets, and solar flares.
Pinches exist in laboratories and in nature. Pinches differ in their geometry and operating forces. These include:
# Uncontrolled: any time an electric current moves in large amounts a magnetic force can pull together plasma. This can be insufficient for fusion.
# Sheet pinch: an astrophysical effect, this arises from vast sheets of charge particles.
# Z-pinch: the current runs down the axis of the cylinder while the magnetic field is azimuthal
# Theta pinch: the magnetic field runs down the axis of the cylinder, while the electric field is in the azimuthal direction
# Screw pinch: a combination of a Z pinch and theta pinch
# Reversed field pinch: This is an attempt to do a Z-pinch inside an endless loop. The plasma has an internal magnetic field. As you move out from the center of this ring, the magnetic field reverses direction. Also called a toroidal pinch.
# Inverse pinch: An early fusion concept, this device consisted of a rod surrounded by plasma. Current traveled through the plasma and returned along the center rod. This geometry was slightly different than a z-pinch in that the conductor was in the center, not the sides.
# Cylindrical pinch
# Orthogonal pinch effect
# Ware pinch: an pinch that happens inside Tokamaks. This is when particles inside the Banana orbit condense together.
#MAGLIF. This is a combination of a Z-pinch and a laser beam to stop loss of material at the end.

In fusion power research, the "Z-pinch", also known as "zeta pinch", is a type of plasma confinement system that uses an electrical current in the plasma to generate a magnetic field that compresses it . These systems were originally referred to simply as "pinch" or "Bennett pinch" , but the introduction of the "theta-pinch" concept led to the need for increased clarity.
The name refers to the direction of the current in the devices, the Z-axis on a normal three-dimensional graph. Any machine that causes a pinch effect due to current running in that direction is correctly referred to as a Z-pinch system, and this encompasses a wide variety of devices used for an equally wide variety of purposes. Early uses focused on fusion research in donut-shaped tubes with the Z-axis running down the inside the tube, modern devices are generally cylindrical and used to generate high-intensity x-ray sources for the study of nuclear weapons and other roles.
The Z-pinch is an application of the Lorentz force, in which a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field experiences a force. One example of the Lorentz force is that, if two parallel wires are carrying current in the same direction, the wires will be pulled toward each other. In a Z-pinch machine the wires are replaced by a plasma, which can be thought of as many current-carrying wires. When a current is run through the plasma, the particles in plasma are pulled toward each other by the Lorentz force, thus the plasma contracts. The contraction is counteracted by the increasing gas pressure of the plasma.

# Uncontrolled: any time an electric current moves in large amounts a magnetic force can pull together plasma. This can be insufficient for fusion.
# Sheet pinch: an astrophysical effect, this arises from vast sheets of charge particles.
# Z-pinch: the current runs down the axis of the cylinder while the magnetic field is azimuthal
# Theta pinch: the magnetic field runs down the axis of the cylinder, while the electric field is in the azimuthal direction

# Reversed field pinch: This is an attempt to do a Z-pinch inside an endless loop. The plasma has an internal magnetic field. As you move out from the center of this ring, the magnetic field reverses direction. Also called a toroidal pinch.

Any machine that causes a pinch effect due to current running in that direction is correctly referred to as a Z-pinch system, and this encompasses a wide variety of devices used for an equally wide variety of purposes. Early uses focused on fusion research in donut-shaped tubes with the Z-axis running down the inside the tube, modern devices are generally cylindrical and used to generate high-intensity x-ray sources for the study of nuclear weapons and other roles.
The Z-pinch is an application of the Lorentz force, in which a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field experiences a force. One example of the Lorentz force is that, if two parallel wires are carrying current in the same direction, the wires will be pulled toward each other. In a Z-pinch machine the wires are replaced by a plasma, which can be thought of as many current-carrying wires. When a current is run through the plasma, the particles in plasma are pulled toward each other by the Lorentz force, thus the plasma contracts. The contraction is counteracted by the increasing gas pressure of the plasma.

A "pinch" is the compression of an electrically conducting filament by magnetic forces. The conductor is usually a plasma, but could also be a solid or liquid metal. Pinches were the first device used by mankind for controlled nuclear fusion.
The phenomenon may also be referred to as a "Bennett pinch" , "electromagnetic pinch", "magnetic pinch", "pinch effect" or "plasma pinch".
Pinches occur naturally in electrical discharges such as lightning bolts, the aurora, current sheets, and solar flares.
Pinches exist in laboratories and in nature. Pinches differ in their geometry and operating forces. These include:
# Uncontrolled: any time an electric current moves in large amounts a magnetic force can pull together plasma. This can be insufficient for fusion.
# Sheet pinch: an astrophysical effect, this arises from vast sheets of charge particles.

# Reversed field pinch: This is an attempt to do a Z-pinch inside an endless loop. The plasma has an internal magnetic field. As you move out from the center of this ring, the magnetic field reverses direction. Also called a toroidal pinch.
# Inverse pinch: An early fusion concept, this device consisted of a rod surrounded by plasma. Current traveled through the plasma and returned along the center rod. This geometry was slightly different than a z-pinch in that the conductor was in the center, not the sides.

"David expresses a belief that the electrical fields in space cannot account for all the plasma effects of the primer fields but offers no theory of what the driving force is.
Basically David is using two bowl magnets to create a Z-pinch and induce the plasma formations seen. It requires that he input a massive amount of voltage to achieve these effects. So for him to say that electrical force are not the driving force is absurd. However or whatever his belief, Electrical currents in space are the driving factor and the only cause for non stationary magnetic fields.
The movement of Ions and electrons flowing in opposite directions create the the magnetic fields we observe. Electrical activity in a vast cosmic circuit is the only viable explanation."

Double episode as I've been slacking this week... This episode we send the first Kerbals, a Mun Station, 1 Explorer rocket and a terrain mapping probe over. 1st hotel got space kraken'ed unfortunately so we have a new all in one sleeker designed resort.
Next few episodes we'll be building the resort up bigger and bigger but I'll do some Kerbal exploring in-between too.

My perfect summer meal is just-baked quiche with salad leaves. This has been a staple – summer or otherwise – on the menu at Violet since the day we opened ... roasted tomato and corn; potato, cheddar and caramelised onions; goat’s cheese with kale and leeks, to name a few. My enthusiasm is not matched by everyone ... I was puzzled, because my father, a fabulous cook and a manly man, loved quiche ... Serves 4-6 ... A pinch of salt. A pinch of sugar....
