Both of the England No.8's tries came in the opening quarter as the Tigers threatened to run riot at the Kassam Stadium but London Welsh proved they will be no pushovers this season with a spirited display. Tom Arscott and Hudson Tonga'uiha got themselves on the scoresheet for the Exiles but scores soon after the interval from Geoff Parling and Julian Salvi effectively sealed Leicester's win. Coming into the clash Richard Cockerill's troops, the top try scorers in the Aviva Premiership last year, had lost their opening fixtures in the last three consecutive seasons. But they looked in control for the majority of this clash with Lyn Jones' hastily assembled Welsh squad, Toby Flood slotting over a penalty in the ninth minute to open the scoring. Five minutes later and the Tigers were purring as Tom Youngs and Anthony Allen combined in midfield to put Waldrom over in the corner, Flood adding a tricky conversion for 10-0. The next ten minutes were all Leicester as they ...

Leicester Tigers 11-3 Northampton Saints | Aviva Premiership Rugby Semi Final | 14-05-11
Northampton boss Jim Mallinder claimed Leicester's England midfield prospect Manu Tuilagi should have been sent off as Saints' Aviva Premiership Rugby title dream died at Welford Road. Tigers centre Tuilagi escaped with a yellow card after punching Northampton's England wing Chris Ashton eight minutes before half-time. Ashton, who required treatment as a result, was also sin-binned after an incident that reflected a game that rarely dipped below boiling point. Tigers wing Alesana Tuilagi's late try confirmed a seventh successive Aviva Premiership Rugby final appearance for Leicester. They will meet Saracens or Gloucester at Twickenham on May 28th. But the 11-3 defeat left Mallinder questioning the decision not to send off 19-year-old Tuilagi junior. He said: "First of all, you can't have players taking players out, and you can't be hitting players directly to the head, punching. Chris Ashton did go over and give him a push, but you cannot react with three punches to the head without a red card. "It would have had an effect on the game, because they would have been down to 14 men. But Leicester played well in the second half - it is fine lines. "I think the referee did go to his assistant. All I know is I have seen it, and to me, it is a clear red card. "It's a big game, live on television and it should be one of the highlights of the Premiership season. I guess the referees and referees' assessors will have a real good look at it and work as hard as they can to make sure ...

Round 3 Wrap Up | Aviva Premiership Rugby 2012/13
London Wasps inflicted a third defeat on the bounce on London Irish on Saturday afternoon at Adams Park and out-half Stephen Jones, making his debut for the club topped the points scored tally for the round with 23 points courtesy of his 4 conversions and 5 penalties. Fellow out-halves Nick Evans (Harlequins) and Stephen Myler (Northampton Saints) scored 17 and 15 points respectively, with London Wasps' winger Tom Varndell sneaking into fourth spot this week thanks to his brace of tries against the Exiles. Varndell also placed first in terms of metres made during the weekend's round of games with 127m. London Welsh's Nick Scott (117m), Gloucester Rugby's Shane Monaghan (114m) and Worcester Warriors' Chris Pennell (101m) all surpassed the 100m mark. The top five off-loaders during the round all made 3 off-loads each and included London Wasps' number 8 Ashley Johnson as well as Harlequins' full-back Mike Brown who has featured somewhere in the stats review every match weekend to date. Top tackler from the round was openside flanker Carl Ferns of Bath Rugby who made 17 tackles during his side's 14-18 defeat to Northampton at The Rec on Friday evening. His team-mate Simon Taylor, who was top tackler after Round 2, shared third place with Richard Baxter of Exeter Chiefs while Saracens' Steve Borthwick made the second highest number of tackles with 16 against Leicester Tigers. Leicester Tigers 30-25 Northampton Saints - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 10 | 03-12-11
Late try gives Tigers the derby points Leicester Tigers snatched a dramatic bonus-point win over Northampton Saints in a pulsating East Midlands showdown at Welford Road. The match was contested by two teams of 14 for over an hour after Chris Ashton's clash with Alesana Tuilagi resulted in red cards for the Tigers winger and Northampton flanker Tom Wood. Leicester led after tries from Matt Smith, Steve Mafi and Ben Youngs, Ashton with Northampton's only reply at that stage. Tom May cut the deficit and Ashton set up Phil Dowson to put the Saints ahead for the first time since the opening 10 minutes, but Horacio Agulla edged the Tigers back in front late on. After a spell of Northampton pressure which saw referee Wayne Barnes knocked off his feet by a runner, an offside infringement allowed Ryan Lamb to boot the Saints in front. Toby Flood equalised in the 11th minute before the game burst into life. Ashton had barged into a couple of physical challenges early on. And it spilled over as Ashton tackled Tuilagi's elder brother Alesana out of play by his hair, sparking a fracas against the front of the stand which engulfed a dozen players and an unfortunate ball-boy. Despite not connecting with a punch, Alesana Tuilagi was red-carded along with Wood, who was spotted by the far-side touch judge throwing two punches. Agulla and team-mate Geordan Murphy were, like Ashton, fortunate to escape punishment. A lightning Saints break led by Ben Foden was stopped by Smith's tackle on ...

Owen Farrell - Saracens | Aviva Premiership Player of the Month
Owen Farrell - Aviva Premiership Player of the Month Owen Farrell is a rugby union player (born 21 September 1991) currently playing for Aviva PremierShip Rugby side Saracens. He is Andy Farrell's son. His primary position is centre, but he often plays flyhalf/centre. He held the record of youngest ever player to appear in English professional rugby union after playing for Saracens 11 days after his 17th birthday, in a 26--17 home defeat against Llanelli Scarlets in the EDF Energy Cup on 5 October 2008,[2] until this record was broken in November 2009 by Leicester's George Ford, the son of another former Rugby League international (Mike Ford). In the 2010--11 season, Farrell signed for Bedford Blues on loan. However, he returned to Saracens and was pivotal in the 2010-11 Aviva Premiership Final kicking five penalties and converting James Short's try for a personal haul of 17 points in the 22-18 victory over reigning champions Leicester Tigers.
